I am not a client here and I have not heard much about this company on the island. The picture online, staff conversations, and entire feel of this place makes you want your dog here. I met with the training person. She was pleasant, answered all my questions, and was very inviting. I didn't go with training here yet because I am investigating out my options. After the call I noticed a-lot of the materials about the training were outdated. The training videos sent where of old packages, and the descriptions were a little confusing. I This companies site makes you believe anyone can join, but in order to go here you have to enroll in the training programs which cost 800-3000 dollars. This is not told to you when you inquire or set up an online assessment. I would have rather known prior to the assessment, so could weigh my options. I understand COVID causes hard times, but it is really misleading to think your dog can attend here, but only under conditions of their training. This place looks very nice and accommodating to everyone, so this is not a comment about the service or staff. They have all been pleasant. I just think it needs to be advertised before hand to save owners time and hopes of getting in. I am still looking at options for training and boarding. I tried calling and emailing to inquire about my dog, possibly attending Chuck town Charlie for training and boarding. I was never able to reach them so I went up there in person. I was told that I would receive a call back. Instead, I got an email letting me know that my dog wasn't a good fit for their place. I asked why but never got a response. I did a lot of research before my husband and I chose Chucktown Charley for our sweet but energetic GSP puppy. We wanted him to get acclimated to a boarding / daycare facility at a young age so our lives would be easier any time we need to travel and to keep him stimulated during our work week. I was able to schedule a tour before we signed him up and was thrilled to see all the grass the dogs get to play in, how clean the facilities are, and how friendly all the staff members are. Our pup goes a couple days each week and we know he loves it because every time we drop him off, he gets so excited! I also expected him to be a little stinky after playing outside all day but he is always clean and smells great when we bring him home. We are so thankful to have found such a great facility; their communication is top notch and we feel completely comfortable every time our dog is in their care. I LOVE this place!!! I love Charleston, but I don't like leaving our dogs in what I call my cocktail camper, because it's so hot and humid here compared to where we live. My dogs have stayed in dozens of boarding kennels all over the US, based on how much we travel, and this is hands down MY favorite, and theirs. My older pit bull and younger Plott Hound both love it here. The younger one has room to run, and the older one just hangs out in the sun anyway, so it's perfect for her. The owners are impeccable and have trained their staff so well. I cannot say enough about Chucktown Charley. read more

First time I've ever posted a one star review. This business is an embarrassment. They won't accept our dog for group play because he is on Prozac. Keep in mind this is a well trained GSP that just has anxiety and does not like being left alone. Group play is exactly what this dog needs and has always received. We are new to the area and in search of a daycare. Their direct response noted below: "Huck is not eligible for our group social since he is on Prozac. This means he would have one on one care during a stay with us. At this time we are at capacity for one on one care clients and will not be able to take Huck for PlayCare or Lodging" Just imagine someone's kid being confined to a cell because they have anxiety. read more

Highly recommend Chucktown Charley for dog boarding, day care, training and grooming. Our 3 month old golden doodle puppy spent three weeks in training with Allison and his behavior is so well-mannered. She taught him everything from "off" to "leave it" to "place" (staying on bed when asked) to loose leash walking. He was trying to get into everything and constantly pulled on leash before he went to boot camp. His behavior dramatically improved when he came home and responds to commands. He also socialized with many different dogs and learned how to interact. Allison sends wonderful weekly video updates and photos. My dog Parker (a 4 mo old Aussie Shep) and I have just completed their 4 week training program. It was an awesome experience. Allison and Amanda did an amazing job training and then showed me how to continue with her training at home. One aspect of the training that I was not aware of was getting the dog use to be groomed. Chucktown Charley is a truly 5-star boarding/training/day care retreat. I seriously could not recommend them more highly! Everyone from the owners to the techs to the trainers are so knowledgeable and qualified. I brought my 4 year old rescue pup Biscuit to trainers Allison and Amanda, as he had been exhibiting some escalating anxiety aggression issues with other dogs and occasionally humans. I was so nervous about the process -- we left him in Chucktown Charley's care for 5 weeks! -- but I could tell from our first phone conversation that this was needed if we were going to be able to get our pup to a happy/healthy place. The owner, Janie, was great communicating with me from the beginning through pick-up about his stay at the retreat, making sure he got his meds, and sending occasional photos of him with his new doggy friends! Alison sent weekly update emails as well with great video illustrating Biscuit's progress. Upon picking him up, the trainers gave us a deep rundown of what our new protocols would be with Biscuit, and the difference in his personality was so apparent. He was calmer, more relaxed; and this has continued on since he's now back in our home. We're keeping up with the training techniques we were taught, and Biscuit is doing so well! He's a new dog and we're so glad we did this for him. When my fiance and I go on our honeymoon for 3 weeks we are bringing Biscuit back to Chucktown Charley for boarding, as they are the only boarder I would trust -- knowing they'll keep to his training protocols and ensure he's safe and happy! read more

Called 6 times, left messages for a appointment to get my GS in for bath and nails trimmed. No returned calls. I figured they didn't need the business or I didn't need an appointment. Showed up Thursday morning and was greeted by a very rude young lady. Asked if she could take my GS and she said that I needed a appointment. I asked why after 6 calls that I didn't get a return call. She "whipped" her computer screen around and said, "alright" when did you call. These places are a dime a dozen in Charleston. I boarded my 2 dogs there on recommendation of a current client of theirs. I was horrified. I brought a black leash with my dogs and when I returned, they tried to give me someone elses leash. When I told the girl that wasn't my leash she pointed to a wall full of black leashes and asked me to pick out mine. The only way I figured out which one was mine was by the distinct color of my dogs fur! After that, she told me that there was an active case of kennel cough and to make sure I kept an eye on my male dog because he seemed to be coughing (which he did for about 2 weeks until he received antibiotic) In addition, my dogs muzzle had raw rub marks which we have determined must've been from some sort of cage. During pick up and drop off, we never noticed any dogs playing in the yard, still haven't seen any when we ride by there from time to time. My dogs stunk horribly, and the dog treat bag that I left there had a hole in the side about the size of a plum where it looks like some sort of rodent had chewed it's way through. You could tell by the frayed edges around the hole. In addition, they gave me a bag of food and I didn't notice until I got home that it was someone else's food that had specific instructions for their special needs dogs written on a piece of paper taped on the side. I did call and let them know but the people that owned the animals belonging to that food had already checked out. They told me I could come pick up my food but I decided against it and to cut my losses. I just couldn't get over the smell of my dogs, the food bag and treat bag smelled the same way. Pungent animal feces. I will never take my dogs there again. read more
