We were in the market to purchase firearms for the first time, but were unsure of which ones to get. A rep from Chuck's firearms (who was so knowledgeable and friendly) suggested going to the Quickshot gun range to explore a few different options before purchasing. So glad we did. The staff over there was welcoming and friendly. So I can see why they are their go-to recommendation. They helped us at every turn to educate us on the different gun options, safety, and use (just as Chuck's staff did). We were able to shoot a few different firearms and left feeling confident in our future purchase. We went back to Chuck's and they had what we needed in stock. I called to inquire about a holster for my 9mm EZ & Bob told me to come on over as he has quite of few options. I stopped by within the hour & Bob said "You sound the like person who I spoke to earlier" I told him I was & he welcomed me in. Chuck's is a family-owned business offering local & personal one-on-one service, not like the big chains. All sorts of firearms including revolvers, military/assault-style, ammo, knives, optics, other accessories & even homemade Almond Butter. Bob selected the holster which actually fits a 357, yet after he opened the package & placed my firearm inside it fit just right. It ran me $52 as I was looking for something a little less, yet with Bob's service & his co-workers welcoming wittiness it was worth the sale. All employees were very friendly & knowledgeable. In addition to the huge inventory of current & vintage firearms, Chuck's also offers appraisal & transfer ownership services. All the other low reviews have captured why this isn't a good store but I'll give the lowlights: 1) Rude staff. Very abrupt verbal interactions and stare you down just for walking in. 2) Try to lecture you on rules and regulations they know nothing about. They should know better if they claim to be gun experts. 3) Gross good ol' boy vibe. I have a feeling if I looked the part I would have been treated better. The polarizing reviews speak volumes about how they discriminate. Wall of Shame goes to Jim, some of the other guys there seem like they might be ok but sadly I've had to go through him and he's been curt and contemptuous every time. They were both attentive and answered all of my questions while remaining patient. I don't know a lot about guns, but I wasn't made to feel like I SHOULD already know. I came in for some 12-gauge reduced-recoil 00 shells for home defense and so that my girlfriend would feel more comfortable with the rounds. As soon as I got out 10 words - he started shouting as if I were stupid, the entire store could hear. Based on the yelling, you would have thought I was reaching around the glass case or loading a magazine in-store. Unbecoming of a customer-facing businessman. I really just think he didn't like how I look or had a bad day. Don't bother with the young guy, 5'9", brown hair, in his 30's. He has no tact for interacting with customers. He enjoys a good power trip. Either wait for the older guys (the vets) or head over to Stoddard's range & guns. I will never come back to this place. read more

This store is a gem in the Atlanta area. As it gets harder to find firearms, especially higher end ones, Chucks has been consistent. They are a bit pricey and even a bit salty sometimes, but very knowledgeable and helpful. I bought my and my son's Benelli shotguns there and his deer rifle. If you're looking for a basic gun at bargain prices, this is probably not your place. But if you love guns and want something you can pass down to family one day, check out Chucks. read more

So I went to pick my gun up and I wanted to order another one guess what I had to go through another background check in order to purchase another gun. Upon recommendation from a friend, my husband and I visited Chuck's Firearms looking for a new hunting rifle for me. We met Jim and thank goodness we did! Jim spent about an hour with me answering all of my questions and offered great suggestions based on my needs. I didn't buy the rifle that day. Chucks sells top tier firearms. They have a sterling reputation, are experts in arms, stand behind their products, offer fair prices. They have an outstand inventory of shotguns especially sporting shotguns. If you are interested in hunting birds and upland game - or if you are interested in something to stop dangerous game they have the equipment. They will trade with you. I have traded in two shotguns (My personal advice now is to always buy what you like and never change your mind) and purchased numerous Browning sporting clays guns, a number of Beretta autos, Baretta over-&-unders for bird hunting and not too long ago I picked up a Rizzini with 20 and 28 GA barrels. My wife has about 3 guns from here. They work carefully to fit each gun for her and have done perfect work adjusting the wood on her guns. If you like guns, this place is worth a visit just to see the collection of high quality firearms. They also have an assortment of nice used guns including (it seems to me) some lower priced examples that must have come in on trades. They have military collectables too. This place is a candy shop for hunters. A Browning Clays gun of mine developed a crack in the wood - Jack fixed it with no questions. New wood - no cost. They once sent me home with several hundred dollars worth of gun cases just to try on some shtguns in my safe... so I suppose they are the trusting type too. Drove 1.5 hrs to look at a shotgun. At first glance, it was like being a kid in a candy store, but that changed. I (a woman) was the one looking for the firearm however the gentleman with me was the one who was greeted and entertained most during the visit. Upon handing me the SG, the first thing I wanted to do was put it on safe and make sure it was empty, however the slide wasn't pulling back. Jim rather rudely pulled the SG out of my hands to engage the safety. After being scolded on what was my left and what was my right, I was ready to walk out. The condescending tone and excessive amount of mansplaining was not needed. Every bit of the interaction felt forced, and the other employees wouldn't even look in my direction. Not sure if that was due to my gender or my complexion. Except when I was looking at the smaller merchandise (ammo, mags, etc.)... they were definitely watching me then. The price of the firearm seemed higher than some other locations, but not so much higher than it would have dissuaded me from purchasing from them. The good ole boy air, however, will absolutely prevent me from purchasing there. It is 2024 - people of color participate in shooting sports and guess what, we have money too! read more

I hesitate to write this negative review because Chuck's carries quality merch and keeping a small business is difficult. But, the people who work there, with the exception of the new owner, just should not be customer-facing. They drive away business by being impolite, inconsiderate and arrogant. Having had negative experiences before at Chucks, I am close to being done with them. On June 18th, I went by around 11:45am and an older, overweight grey haired employee would not let me in despite other employees and customers being inside. Apparently, I had to have an appointment made in advance, despite the foregoing. No apologies and no explanation or offer to assist. I have purchased firearms from Chucks and another one was on my in mind today -- fully prepared to buy. Instead, I drove back home and will look for another retailer who appreciates their customers. I went to Chuck's Firearms for the first time yesterday. Let me paint the picture first. I am a heavy set African American woman dressed in baggy sweat pants and a tee shirt with my handgun on my side. I had not read any of the negative reviews so I walked in like I always do expecting good service and to leave with what I wanted. The first thing I noticed when I entered the store was the reaction of the two white male customers. The both stopped what they were doing to look/stare at me. Me being me gave them both a head nod and proceeded to the front counter. I wasn't greeted or acknowledged by the young man behind the counter until I sat at the counter. He asked how he could help me and said that he would be with me in a moment. At this time a much older man came out and the younger man asked him to assist me. I asked him for the ammunition I needed and he retrieved it. Things got weird when I started asking questions about different ammunition and guns. The older man became very short with his answers. I felt like I had over stayed my time . I can only imagine the conversation that happened after I left. I am writing this review because after reading the reviews, my sitting at the counter in a place were I was not wanted /valued reminded me of what my ancestors did when that sat at the segregated lunch counters across the south. Just like they protested those segregated places we need to continue to demand service from these "New Age " segregated businesses. Granted , we have many places that we can go to buy our guns but businesses like this should not get a pass. If you don't want to serve the African American community or women then leave Atlanta. Hmm an interesting thread here about not being helped. I have been going to Chucks Firearms for the past 15+ years, sad part is I have never purchased anything. The reason being is I already have a fair share of firearms and I am always looking for that special used firearm that will fill a void. I did lust after that gorgeous MG42 or was it an MG34? but sadly I didn't have 30 Thousand dollars to purchase it. I am a minority and I have never had any issues, I even examine the used rifles behind the counter. Let's just say I am highly familiar with firearms, not the YouTube Tellytubbies who a lot of them are painfully not some people you should be taking firearms safety and marksmanship lessons from. I even get asked if I want to look at anything in the used case or I ask. I almost purchased a very nice single shot 22lr once but the previous owner had scribed some sort of identity number on the the backstrap. I should have purchased it in hindsight because I have not seen anything close to resembling it in the past 10+ years. Yes they cater to a higher clientele, primarily hunters and you can plainly see on the wall the large selection of high quality Rifles and Shotguns. It's not the stuff you see at other Firearms stores. They sometimes get some high quality used pistols and what I mean by that is they don't purchase junk. It's not unusual to see a 1970 Smith and Wesson Model19 357 magnum in near mint condition. Yes you will pay the price and no they don't make them like that anymore hence the high price tag. They have a small selection of new handguns so you should have a good idea of what you are looking for before you come in. I am sure if you came in and walked up to the person behind the counter and stated I am in the market for a pistol they would help you out. My suggestion is to search on Youtube "Purchasing my first Firearm" someone who will give very direct answers to your search inquiry. Kind of researching a car before you walk into the showroom before the sales weasels take you for every dime you didn't want to spend, being forewarned is forearmed? I know you kids know this right? My other suggestion is to go to Adventure Outdoors, they have a large selection of firearms and accessories or maybe, Cabelas' or Gander Mountain. Do you have children in the home or that children may visit your residence? 6. Personal concealment? You should sign up immediately for a self defense pistol class right after your purchase. Apply for a Georgia Weapons Cary License. yes you can do that even if you don't own a pistol. Law might change on that, may not need one anymore. Just because you have a carry license does not mean you are an expert in carrying a weapon. 7. Are you prepared to kill someone? ARE YOU SURE? 8. Do you want a revolver or a semi auto? No you don't need a laser No you don't need to have a flashlight on your pistol Yes buy a holster that works for you, do more research before you buy one. No you probably don't need self defense rounds, nobody ever says "did you shoot me with a hollow point or round nose?" Yes a 22LR works for self defense, at 3:00am in the morning a 22LR sounds like a 357 magnum and yes the Goblins will run away. Oh and the Goblins won't ask " did you shoot me with a 22lr or a 9mm?" This place releases an INCREDIBLE amount of NEGATIVE vibes. My wife was initially told via telephone that there was no charge for a firearm transfer. However, during her transfer appointment, the salesman attempted to charge a $45 fee. When she RESPECTFULLY disputed the charges, the salesman told her to "just leave" - in a very rude and condescending manner. We would have had no problem paying a fee had we never been told that there wasn't one. We hate to judge and think the worst of people, but in hindsight, we can't help but wonder if we were mistreated due to the color of our skin. Who knows. Bought a very nice 44 mag pistol from them last week. I also have had guns they don't carry shipped there because of convenience and closeness to my work. This review is concerning an interaction I had there this morning. I left a cleaning rod and an owners manual that went with a new gun that I had shipped there from out of town last night around 4 pm. I was asked to pull out the gun out of the box to get the serial number for registration. My fault yes that the rod and manual were left on the counter. I came this morning at opening to get the rod and was told that it was thrown away along with the owners manual and that he didnt recommend digging through the dumpster but just ordering another from the company. Its more the interaction, lack of remorse, and absence of an apology that I take an issue with. The cost of replacement was not a concern. There are pros and cons to this gun store. Pros: Awesome prices on used guns. You can find some seriously great deals. The staff knows what they are talking about when it comes to big game rifles and fine shotguns. The shotgun selection is amazing. Cons: I have never been somewhere with staff this rude. They are condescending and impatient. They act like they have something better to do than help customers that are there to spend money. Although I must say, I have occasionally been in there with some staff that was not as rude. Overall, neat store. If I was to buy a fine shotgun in Atlanta I would certainly go there. He had great customer service, was friendly and attentive to us. We listened as he recommended some brands and ultimately left with our first choice. So, much like many of the other posters here, I had a few poor experiences. I was picking up a 30.06 hunting rifle from the store which I had ordered from an online retailer. This is something I have done dozens of times at multiple places in Atlanta. I saw that this place had a cheaper ffl fee relative to surrounding areas that were further away. I had previously purchased ammo there; although expensive, it was convenient enough for me to ignore the markup (35% relative to Adventure outdoors)as I checked out. I call the store after receiving email confirmation that the rifle was dropped off. I even waited for 2 days before I called because I know busy ffls can take a while before processing the gun. So I call, and a very curt man on the phone asks what I want. I reply, "Hi, my name is Matt xxxxxxx I am looking to pick up a gun from you today, and I was wondering what time I could schedule an appointment to pick it up." to which he replies, " Well, what the hell do you mean pick up a gun?? Are you gunna buy one here, did you have one delivered? Do you even know what you're looking for??" A bit taken aback at the brashness of the response, I replied, "It should be a Ruge-" But before I could even finish my sentence, I was immediately cut off with, "Well it either is or it isn't, what the hell do you mean should be? Don't you even know what gun you ordered??" I didn't know that semantics were part of the customer experience. Starting to realize I may be dealing with someone who was running low on blood sugar, I spoke very clearly, "I ordered a Ruger, 30-06 in Wolf camo from Online Retailer and I have recieved confirmation that it was delivered to your ffl. The tracking number is xxxxxxxxxxxx, and the order number is xxxxxxxxxx. I am calling to ask if you have finished processing this gun, and when I may schedule a time to complete the 4473 and pick this gun up." I was then told to "Come by tomorrow" followed by a click and a dead line. No time specification. No fucks given. I went into the store the next day at open, picked up my firearm, filled out my forms, and left, grateful to have my hunting rifle, but feeling such that if I had mentioned anything wrong with how I was treated on the phone, or how poor the experience I had was, I was not going to get my gun. I felt like my gun was being held hostage, and the only was to free it was to deal with these stuck up assholes' comments, and let them condescend with impunity. I know that they are busy, they are one of the only local gun shops, and I am sure they are knowledgeable. The bottom line is that you will never win anyone over to your side by being condescending or patronizing. Know-it-alls may win a lot of arguments, but they don't win many friends. As a result of my experience, I will Gladly pay 200% the price of the ffl fee and drive 25+ miles out of my way to pick up my next gun. Which, thanks to this stimulus check, will be very soon. I hope this review finds you before you set foot into this place because it is not worth spending a single cent in. Supporting this business is supporting the worst representatives of the gun and hunting culture I have grown to love. These are the exact kind of people that make new gun owners think all gun owners are these narcissistic gatekeepers of the knowledge and freedoms that come with owning a firearm. They paint the good gun-guys in a bad light because they will be the first experience that new gun owners have. Called ahead to ask if they sell gun grease. "We have tubes, bottles, all types of grease". I head to this shop and ask where the grease is, and get an earful about why grease is bad and why I should use oil. I ask where the grease is, and gentleman in black eye glasses points to shotgun grease and says that's the grease, then goes on about how I shouldn't use grease. I ask him where the other grease is, and get a reply if "bro I told you that's the grease". I came here to get some damn grease, not get a lecture on how to run ARs and AKs with oil from a shop that sells sporting shotguns. If you don't have a product, don't claim you do over the phone. If a customer wants to use grease, show them where the grease is and leave them alone if they don't ask for your advice. Grease vs oil is like 556 vs 762. At the end of the day I want to use grease, so let me use grease. read more

Chuck's is the gold standard in the north Georgia area for firearms dealers. They generally don't carry "mass market" firearms with the exception of the odd Ruger or Remington. Where they excel is in semi-custom on up. Semi-custom means to me Kimber... then Cooper & Dakota on up to the sky is the limit full on custom and collectors pieces. And they are in stock too! If they don't have it they will order it for you...as they have done for me in the past. They are to my knowledge the only Cooper rifle dealer in North Georgia, and the only one that has an annual Cooper "trunk show" - where the folks from Cooper show off their best in class work. Yes, I'm high on Cooper rifles. The one I own regularly prints three shot groups of 0.12" at 100 yards! As far as smooth bores go I get lost in the world of Beretta which is all my budget can take. But here at Chuck's that is the entry point. The staff here is about as good as it can get, highly knowledgable, and well experienced with the fine equipment they sell. Going to Africa, Alaska, or some other exotic destination; or going to south Georgia to shoot hogs; or just to the range to punch holes in paper, they have the "best in class" tools for you. With a big comfy sofa in the back of the sales store, it can be a great place to go on a Saturday morning to exchange some "testosterone tales". As for the fairer sex, have 100% faith that you will be treated with the same courtesy and respect as any male customers. Neophytes too, go in with an open mind, and ask tons of questions. You will enjoy the best sales experience of any firearms dealer I have found. The ambiance of the store is greatly enhanced by the numerous "eclectic collectibles" that are the personal property of the store's owner "Jack". Old tin signs, posters, and the coolest collection of "face jugs" abound - And the parking; it's free, and it's in Buckhead. So why not five stars... Simple no gunsmith. Sure, rents in Buckhead are at a premium, and therefore so is space. And yes some of the chemicals and processes (like bluing or color case hardening) have some fairly noxious odors; I am measuring against the ideal. Really POOR service! Had a firearm delivered to them, delivered the day before, went in the next day, and they told me to wait on a call to check it in and would not give me my firearm. I asked if they could help me out and see if they could find it and they said "No." I will pick up this firearm from them but will NEVER do business with them again and will NEVER buy anything from them. On a side note, they called me 2 hours after I left and said they had "checked" it in. I asked if I could run up and get it and they said they were closing! Went to pick up a firearm--already paid for and only background check needed--and was dismissed that my identification credentials were invalid. After getting over his ego, the salesman took another look at my credentials and realized that they actually worked ... only for me to get lectured by the store owner about renewing my credentials. I hope the owner and his staff realize that people looking for a gun aren't looking to be lectured and belittled. Look elsewhere unless you enjoy being treated like a child. read more
