Ordered the smaller size; it was plenty of food. Clams were fresh and a good serving size. (not just a plate of fries with a couple of clams!) Came with home fries, which are my preference. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the plate of food! I intended to, but when I unwrapped it, it looked so good I just dug in! I got the impression that they usually have regular fries as an option. He did tell me, when I ordered, that they only had home fries. I included a picture of the menu board with current pricing. Important since I believe it's cash only. Friendly service. Very quick. I don't eat deep fried food very often. So, when I do, I don't want a greasy mess and I want the food to be worth eating. And it's been awhile since I had a feed of clams that was that good, so I'll be going back.

When my wife and I showed up on a Saturday afternoon, I was in luck because the scallops and fish combo was one of the daily specials, clocking in at just $21! My other half, not being a big seafood person, opted for a cheeseburger. Having arrived well after the main lunch crowd, we had our food in quick order and ate indoors, taking a break in their AC. My plate of brown, deep-fried goodness wasn't exactly a poster child for the Canada Food Guide, but it sure was good! The scallops had a light dusting of breading before hitting the fryer, and they were a perfect doneness - not too soft, and not at all rubbery. Being minimally adorned as they were, the sweetness of the scallops took its rightful spot at centre stage. The fish portion of the plate was comprised of three small filets of haddock, with a light breading on the exterior. I do prefer a crisp, airy beer batter, but the quality of the fish stole the show, as it flaked easily in solid chunks, but wasn't mushy or shredding to tiny bits. It was one of those times where the fish was so good that I only used the tartar sauce for my fries. Said fries were the standard, from-frozen fries that I think of as "diner fries", but they were good and crisp on the outside, with fluffy interiors, so they were about as good as they can be. On the upside, the fries acted as a delivery mechanism for one of the best tartar sauces I've ever had! Heavy on the minced pickle chunks, the tartar sauce had a sweetness to it that reminded me of mustard pickles (in the best possible way). When a place does a simple thing like this so well, it really make all the others that just do packets of Kraft look even worse. Although far from being the star of the show, my wife's cheeseburger was a solid, diner-style burger. Carla's was just what I was looking for while in Digby - down home style seafood that's well-executed without pretension.

According to a local we talked to Marv's has the best fish&chips around. Whether that's true I…read morecan't say, but I can say it was just ok. We arrived around 5:00 on a Saturday evening to an empty parking lot and dining room, and no other diners arrived during the hour we were there. I had the fried fish and clams special and the wife had the fish&chips. Both served with french fries and coleslaw. The fish and clams were fresh, though I wasn't impressed with the batter. The fries were of the generic, frozen variety, dry and uninteresting. The coleslaw was a ludicrously small thimble-sized portion but was ok, with a slightly tangy, mustardy dressing. They serve beer and wine here only, no cocktails. But beer and wine lovers alike would be disappointed. We both wanted red. The waitress didn't know what kind it was and offered to check. We saved her the trouble and said whatever they have would be fine. It turned out there wasn't enough for two portions so she split what was left into two glasses. The wife decided to have a white instead so we combined the two reds into a glass for me and the white turned out to be a pinot grigio, her new favorite. My red, not so good. The bottle had clearly been opened too long. I guess not many wine drinkers here. For beer, only big-name brands, both Canadian and, surprisingly at this time in Canada, American. No small craft brands whatsoever. The ambience was typical diner, no complaints there. The best part was dessert, which we hadn't even planned to get. At the end of the meal two were brought over, without asking and at no charge. Since they were going to be closed for the next 3 days I guess they didn't want to waste them. A peanut butter cheesecake and a chocolate cream pie, the latter which was enormous, almost two portions. Both surprisingly delicious. We only tried the pie while there, taking the cheesecake home, and thanked her and complimented her on the quality. They were both made in house by the chef. The cheesecake, which I enjoyed over the next two days, was so good I've resolved to try this more often, not being something I normally order. So, an enjoyable experience overall but I'd probably research other options if I find myself back in Yarmouth.
