I recently took in my minivan to have the battery looked at. I prefaced my visit by telling them I would like to okay any expensive procedures before they are done so that I don't get surprised by a big bill for something I didn't ask for. I just wanted them to look at my battery, and I would happily pay a modest diagnostic fee, which is usually pretty cheap, or free if they don't do any work on your car.
I was shocked to get a call back a day later with a bill of around $167 just to be told that some battery tests had been done on my car and they noticed the connections weren't too good. I politely asked to talk to the person in charge to know more about why this cost so much. When I was connected to the mechanic, I brought up my concerns and he instantly became irate and defensive, saying things like I was devaluing his work by not thinking it was worth that much. He then basically accused me of being a freeloader by not wanting to pay that much. I told him politely that if the expense was going to be that much, I had previously asked that they let me know beforehand so that I can decide if I want to spend that much, because I never would have allowed the bill to get to $167 without ANY work being done on my car. I described these concerns with him, and he continued acting combative and condescending while we went back and forth, and he eventually said he would drop the bill and let me take my car.
Even though I ended up not having to pay anything, this interaction was so awful that I will never be going back to this place again.
Short version: You'll have an okay experience here until you bring up ANY sort of concerns or pushback about a bill, then you will see a whole new side of the guy who works here read more
