We had the Shrimp Taicos ($10 for 2), Spring Rolls ($6 for 2) and fries $6. I also had an Amaretto soda. I don't know the price for my drink as it was not listed and my husband paid and he doesn't remember how much it was, but draught beers are $6, which is pretty good. Cocktails on their menu were $14-18, which I think is a bit pricey, but maybe they are chock-full of alcohol, lol. The shrimp tacos were good. They were battered shrimp with jicama slaw and mango salsa in a soft flour tortilla. I didn't taste too much shrimp though, mostly batter. And there was too much sauce for my tastes, but at least it was hot and gave the tacos a spicy kick. The spring rolls were way too oily for my liking. They had ground pork and vegetables in them. My husband liked the spring rolls, but I was not a fan at all. I've had much better spring rolls for a fraction of the cost (like the ones in Toronto's Chinatown that are 2 for $1, but hey I guess you're standing on the street eating those while for $3 a spring roll you can sit in a bar in tony Westboro, haha). The fries were crispy and hot, but didn't come with ketchup (call me what you want, but I love lots of ketchup with my fries). They were ok, but nothing too remarkable, IMO. My Amaretto soda was good, but all the amaretto was at the bottom and I didn't get a stir stick. I'm resourceful, so I mixed my drink with the cutlery they gave me for the food, lol. I think I might have gotten the stink eye from the bartender when she saw me stirring my drink with a knife, oh well. Service was acceptable, but our server/bartender seemed disinterested and I didn't find her particularly friendly. Although she did thank us when we left. The place is long and narrow, and seats about 40, with most seats around the long bar. There are some seats for 2 and 4 along the side wall and a larger table for 6-8 towards the back. The space is aesthetically pleasing and has a cool vibe to it. There was live entertainment when we were there. The performers were at the front by the entrance. The space used to be a Dunn's, which was short-lived. Prior to that it was The Village Cafe. I think The Newboro would be a good place for some drinks, as the environment is cool. It definitely feels like more of a bar than a restaurant. I wasn't thrilled by the food. Since I like eating my calories over drinking them, this place was not my jam, which is too bad because it's walking distance from my house. But hey, it depends on what you're looking for...our friend really liked the place because they had Blanche de Chambly on tap ;)

We definitely took advantage of that and tried so much of their food! We got a nice seat by the window, and our server was super friendly, personable and easy to talk to. He came by several times to check to make sure we were all good. Their chicken tenders were very good - they aren't battered and fried the normal way, but breaded with bread crumbs and then fried. They had several flavours. What really stole the show for me was the tacos - we tried the chicken taco (which was a chicken tender with toppings), the duck taco, fish taco and the pulled pork. They were all delicious and, as I'm typing this up, I'm thinking and craving them now. The duck taco had a generous serving of meat on it with some delicious hoisin sauce. The fish taco was breaded and crispy and the pulled pork taco hit the spot just right. Can't wait to go back!

In terms of taste, it was quite good and had a reasonable amount of toppings that was quite balanced amongst the nacho chips. That being said, our waiter did not have a mask on which really annoyed me. It seemed like the establishment was not following Ontario social distancing measures as payment processing for example was done physically. Due to that, we gave no tip. But other than that, the nachos were really good and I would rate them higher than average within Ottawa.

There was a person behind the bar but he will just sit you down but not serve the food. The food was good, nothing impressive.. the fish and chips were well made but the wings needed a couple more minutes frying. I don't think I'll be back for lunch but maybe I'll give it a chance one night to see if the atmosphere and service is better.

They have two options: cold $16 hot: $19. The cold includes your typical fruit, cereals, cheese, pastries, yogurt, etc. The hot option adds bacon (really nice thick and crispy!), eggs, hasbrowns, toast, etc. Both options include juice and coffee or tea. I was quite surprised at the quality of the food and the incredibly friendly staff. My server made my buffet plate for me each morning as I was not able to with crutches. The restaurant is very clean with comfortable seating. There is also a breakfast menu if you don't opt for the buffet, but the prices are typical of a hotel restaurant. You're better off with the buffet for some fresh and healthy options. I love that the fruit is a big variety. It's not your typical apples and oranges which gets old fast. Pineapple, blackberries and grapefruit just to name a few non-typical options for a hotel in this price range. If you're looking to fill up on a budget, I would strongly recommend here where beverages are unlimited with your buffet.

I enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Sasha's Bar recently. The bartender, Milos, is terrific -- smart, funny and experienced -- and the food and beverage manager, Heather, is awesome. Food was fun and well prepared. They offer a full menu at the bar featuring a mix-and-match on tapas/appetizer sized plates. Beef short rib sampler was particularly good. Alas, the wines by the glass could use some upgrading. If you're going to lure the Hy's clientele, you've got to swank it up from garden-variety Cabs, Shiraz, and Merlot. Put a J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon behind the bar. Your new regulars will pay for it, I promise. Also, the place could use a few renos. Singletons like to sit at the bar while they eat and chat with the staff and whoever drops by. It is a less likeable experience when the bar is wedged between a closet and the dining room salad bar... Good food and really excellent service.
