Always a great place to be on $2 Taco Tuesday. I usually sit at the bar, but later in the evening it seems there isn't a dedicated person there. I sat there for a minute or two, and about the time I decided I should go to the line, someone showed up with an order of chips. Tacos came out pretty quickly after ordering, as usual. This was my first time at Chubby's Tacos which was a fast, convenient, and reasonably priced restaurant for dinner. Chubby's has great specials throughout the week that make it an easy gathering place for drinks and tacos especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They have a wide selection of salsas at an open station which is a plus. The flavors aren't very strong and the portion was decent. My only feedback is that the chips didn't seem very fresh and the grilled chicken for the loaded nachos was not good. The service was casual and pleasant. Most of the restaurant is self service besides ordering and food being brought out. Although this place is relatively near our home, we had not been here since they relocated to a larger space in the same strip mall. We had a discount from a local dining club and stopped in for dinner. The first night we tried, it was packed so we came back another night when it was quieter. This is definitely a popular neighborhood spot for families. Although the food was filling and quickly served, I would say it was just average Mexican food. We got an enchilada and a taco salad. Beware the $2 taco Tuesday. I went and confirmed the tacos were $2. You can't order them online, and there's nothing on the menu to specify, so imagine my surprise when my 5 $2 tacos were $20 total. Actually, fish and shrimp are both $3 tacos. Oh, and they upcharged me for everything. Cheese? 49 cents. Cilantro crema (that they forgot to actually put on the taco)? 39 cents. Lettuce? 29 cents. LETTUCE. Even though if you go on the app and order the tacos you can pick "no lettuce" or "no cheese," which suggests these are included. I'm not sure what IS included by default; maybe for $2 you just get a dab of beef and a tortilla. but the fact that it's a surprise when you actually want your tacos to taste like something and your $2 taco is now $5. . . I'll probably keep going because their entrees are a good deal without meat ($5 taco salad, burrito, etc, as long as you don't need a protein in it) but I will never be back for taco Tuesday. Also the bartenders need to be educated about the pricing and/or tell customers. If someone says "$2 tacos today, correct?" you should tell them "oh but those shrimp tacos are $3" and "we are going to charge you 29 cents per taco for what will add up to one ounce of lettuce over all 5 of your tacos." read more

I ordered two steak and two shrimp soft tacos with the usual condiments, lettuce, cheese, sour cream etc. The steak was overcooked and really dry, the cilantro, which I didn't want, tasted like grass clippings, no cheese, nothing. You line up to order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I ordered 1 chorizo taco, 1 spicy tinga chicken and 1 grilled fish and made it a meal with black beans and Spanish rice and chips. Ambiance: 3.5/5 It wasn't the nicest ambiance but it was decent. You can probably go in a small party but it isn't the most conducive for bigger sized parties (more than 6). Food: 4/5 The chips were crispy with a nice seasoning on it. I loved the salsa options. The food itself was a lot and I ended up having leftovers. Before it was purchased, from the original owners, Chubby's was the best place in town - hand made tortillas and they would grill the carne asada and stew meats in house. Over the years it has gone down hill, cheaper tortillas and more recently, they switched to mushy meat that clearly arrives in a bag and is reheated bringing it essentially to Taco Bell quality. The service is still great but sad to see you go Chubby's as it looks like we are done. read more
