I've been going to Gina Ma's Salon, Chromatic Edge since we moved to San Antonio two and a half years ago. I'm very unsure about my appearance, and Gina has gone above and beyond to make sure my hair has looked its best. She has also taken my husband into consideration, as I kind of like purple, and he does not. She will spend as much time as it takes to make sure that my hair looks great both for me and my husband. That's why it upsets me when other people post such ugly comments. I was in the salon when Lisa L and her daughter arrived. I have no idea what kind of day she was having but she was clearly spoiling for an argument. When Gina said that she was in the back with because she was early, Lisa L said someone is in a "pissy" mood. Gina tried to explain what she meant, but Lisa L wanted no part of that. When Gina said that she would not cut her daughters hair, she lost her mind. She refused to leave until Gina said she was going to call the police. I felt such compassion for her daughter. Gina and Holly are so talented! I love my hair so much!!! I started coming to the salon about 4 months ago after several bad experiences. I had so much breakage and was concerned that I might have to stop highlighting. Holly was able work miracles by getting my hair healthy again and keeping me blonde. At my last appointment I noticed another client getting extensions. I've always wanted long hair and as I watched the transformation I decided I was going to for it. I made an appointment with Gina the following week. She went over different options for extensions and I decided to go with the skinny weft. I knew about Chromatic Edge because I followed Gina from Toni and Guy. I met Gina years ago when she worked at Toni and Guy and I have followed her to her new salon. I'm happy that she has her own salon and that I was able to continue to have her do my hair. She is the only person I go to and I am always happy with what she does. She works very hard and cares about her clients. I admire and like that she is honest and always has great suggestions on what works best with my hair. She is amazing and I doubt you will ever want to switch after seeing what all she does. I'm the type of person that likes to read reviews especially when I'm particular about my hair. LOVE this place and HIGHLY recommend! Barbara has been my stylist since I arrived in SA last year. She listens to what I want - even looks at photos I brought - then takes her time, continues asking questions and always does an amazing job. My hair is super short, coarse and I have a head full of cowlicks; not easy to cut at all. But, Barbara does an awesome job every, single time. I always feel and look amazing when she is finished. The salon is stylish and edgy with a warm feel that makes you feel welcome the minute you step through the door. The owner - Gina - is SUPER and knows what you want before you do. Barbara at Chromatic Edge has been cutting my hair for a couple of years now. And she's always done a great job. I met her when she was a stylist at a fashion shoot I was photographing. She did a great job for the photo shoot and was really nice. So I thought I'd give her a try. There's nothing fancy about my hair style but Barbara always takes time to do it right. She doesn't just select a numbered clipper guard and run it over the back of my hair. She uses a comb and a pair of scissors to do the same thing but it looks so much better. The salon is also pretty nice but not too girly - I don't feel out of place. And the big bonus is they have a mini-fridge with complimentary drinks! Water, soft drinks, beer and wine. read more

Highly recommend this new salon!!!! Gina and Barbara are great!! Barb has been my stylist for several years now. She is really good with ombre's and keeping your hair healthy even after being bleached. My hair normally starts acting fried after ive been bleached, but with barb my hair feels fresh and like its never been touched with chemicals.. barb also does a great job with eyebrows. She has been keeping up with mine for a while now. I love the way she shapes them. Gina is always very friendly and accommodating when walking in, she will offer you drinks while you wait in the comfy sofa area. I have posted a review for Chromatic Edge before, but I'm going to post another one. I have come to the salon for cuts, color, and toner, never have I once been disappointed. Chromatic Edge offers makeup and updo's for special events so I figured I would come here for my wedding day needs. My sister and I both came for makeup and hair, and man were we just absolutely excited about the results. Barbara did our makeup and Gina did our hair and they both did an amazing job. I have lived a ton of places and had a range of professionals cut my hair. Kiki at Chromatic Edge Salon is, hands down, the best hair dresser I have ever had! Her skill and precision are incredible and my hair has never been happier. She follows my curl pattern and takes her time to make sure my hair lays exactly as it should. Where other professionals are quick to whip out thinning sheers, Kiki creates texture with her cutting technique and doesn't destroy my curls. What a great salon and the service from Roxie is A+. It is the best Men's cut I have had in years. The price is higher than I was used to, but I soon realized that you get what you pay for and having a confident haircut is worth it. There are places that charge less, but this place is where you go to fix what they did wrong. Now that doesn't mean all of you need to go there because I still want to be able to make an appointment without being on a major waiting list. Gina fixed me!! And anyone who has had a bad cut or bad color knows exactly what this means. I had poorly placed extensions that looked terrible. And the color correct I had done didn't correct anything. But Gina saved the day. She replaced my extensions. And even hid the beads so you can't even tell!!! And I absolutely love my color!! I had been struggling to find a stylist who could give me a suitable cut with having the side of my head shaved and Gina accomplished what others couldn't for years! Not only did she give me the cut of my dreams (after cutting 10 inches off!) I am always so impressed with my hair color when I leave. Gina did a balayage that grew out beautifully and got compliments for over a year without refreshing more than my roots to cover grey growth. I went to the salon the other day just to dye my hair one specific color (not intricate at all just a solid color on half my head) I showed the stylist a picture (of cherry red hair) and picked my own color (vibrant cherry red) I already have ginger hair so I didn't think it would be that much of a difference but I'm not a stylist so I don't know for sure. When my hair was done it was purple. A super vibrant purple, like almost no red at all (other than my natural color). I told her I wanted it to be red, like the photo and the sample, she said it was strange that it was so vibrant "violet" and I guess removed some of the color and added red (I'm not sure if that's what she did but she said she would try to fix it). By the time we had finished, 3 hours had passed and my hair was still purple. I called today and asked for the color used on my hair, looked it up and sure enough it was purple. (Side note: They just called again and I didn't pick up but they left a voicemail and said it was actually a DIFFERENT hair dye which is more of a maroon) I don't actually know which one they used but at first it was DEFINITELY vibrant dark purple so I doubt it was the maroon one, especially because my natural hair is ginger. I want to be clear and say everyone was so nice and sweet and I would definitely come back if it wasn't for an (I'm sure) miscommunication. I won't name the stylist's name either because she was so nice and meant well it's just not what I wanted.. at all and I paid quite a bit for the service. I hurried out of the salon as I had another commitment. I don't like to complain but this felt worthy as I want to avoid others from having the same experience as I did. Remember to communicate with your stylist and don't be a doormat! If something feels wrong, it is, advocate for your self.

It was a Groupon for haircut, deep conditioning, and single process color. The hairstylist (Michelle) suggested I should only do the roots so I did. She wasn't very personable to begin with but her work matched her energy. When she was dying my hair she was staining my hairline which I know many hairstylists "clean up" after but she was just blobbing it on all sloppy and I could see the dye staining my hairline and ears. When she rinsed off my hair she wet my entire shirt on the back (see photo). Even after I was done and she "cleaned up" my hairline I have black hair dye all over my hairline and ears. Safe to say I will not be returning here, ever. To make matters worse, Groupon was paid in full and she charged me an extra $25 for idk what bs but I didn't care at that point. I'm never going back! I found her to be fairly knowledgeable about color but she did not really like a aveda color and I think she started trying to sneak other color in my sessions. A couple of occasions I could smell strong ammonia with the hair color and obviously that was not Aveda.. I had come from a horrible previous experience where they just about destroyed my hair so I was tolerant of their services. The front desk manager is rude and was rude from the start. I was always nice and I always tipped about 40% and even more at Christmas time and even gave a gift and I made sure that I went above and beyond to be courteous. The only explanation I can think of is that I am in the LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY. THE LAST COUPLE SESSIONS WERE AWFUL. THE VERY LAST ONE THEY NEARLY RUIN MY HAIR THE COLOR WAS NOT THE SAME COLOR THE COLOR WAS A STRONG REEK OF AMMONIA I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY USED IT CERTAINLY WASN'T AVEDA which is what I paid for and always have for 30 years. I called 15 times after my last appointment to schedule another appointment and to tell them that my color was off and I need a consultation to see what we needed to tweak on the formula because it was more red than usual. I left three messages and no one ever called me back no one ever answered the 15 times I called over a two week period And I know they have caller ID. Everything is subpar in this place and I think people tolerate as much as they can going here because it's in a convenient location near the quarry. So for whoever this review may help this has been my honest experience. There were no prior issues there were no issues between me or anyone else at the salon all I can think of is discrimination it's there's no other option in my mind.

When you walk…read moreinto the space there isn't anyone up front to direct you anywhere and since it was my first time there, I was unsure. The owner kind of greeted me and showed me the waiting area. She offered me something to drink but the entire exchange was rushed and awkward. My stylist had called ahead of time to ask if I could move up the appointment an hour and since I had a flexible afternoon schedule that day, I agreed but he still showed up another 15 minutes beyond that time. Overall, not impressed with the service as the entire experience felt a little forced.

I've been getting my hair done professionally since I was around 10 (16 years) went to 10 ish…read moredifferent stylists and had my hair done dozens of times. I went here after getting my hair done about 5 months ago and saw Julie again and it was by far the best dye and cut I've had in my entire life. I got it finished hours ago and I'm still bobbing up and down like a child at how gorgeous it is. I didn't know exactly what I wanted besides which colors and I couldn't have possibly asked for a better job. Just stating I wanted 2 colors was well above $280-$300 not counting the cut but I got dyed and cut for only $200. I can not recommend this salon enough and especially Julie

I personally think it's just too much money to pay more than $500 each time, just to get my hair done. Jessalyn had suggested doing a "hair mask" for a subsequent appointment. But I didn't ask for this. And as someone who lived in Los Angeles for so long, no hairstylist out there has ever suggested a "hair mask." For clients who don't mind paying this kind of money for salon services, this salon might be for them. But even by Southern California standards, I think the total price I paid for hair services here at KOI Salon is still way too high. Southern California is already not a very affordable place to live, and hair services there are also not cheap. I will be looking for a much more reasonably priced salon where I can get quality hair services done without breaking the bank.

Update-the owner claimed that I would need "multiple" sessions to achieve the look I was going for…read more Do yourself a favor and go see Skyla at Kay's salon. She did a fantastic job in 3 hrs and at a reasonable price on the first try.
