"Christy's Donuts & Ice Cream" is a donut shop in the Brisbane Village shopping center. I was driving thru Brisbane the other day, and stopped at this small strip mall for a short break. I decided to checkout this donut shop and see what's available at 430pm on a Monday. As you walk inside, there's a few tables and a "L" shaped counter area. On that day, there's was alot of stock piled up near the counter. Either they just got a delivery, or their stockroom is overflowing onto the salesfloor. The donut cases had alot of selections for being so late in the day. (The posted closing time is 6pm). I stepped up to the counter, and an older lady greeted me and asked what I would like. At the same time, apparently she was talking with someone on her cellphone. It was on speakerphone, and I could hear the whole conversation. As I was ordering two glazed raised donuts, she began talking on her cellphone and I had to wait. She goes in the backroom, and gets donuts from back there. Then I wait again, while her phone conversation continues. To be honest, I find it really annoying when store people choose to take phone calls instead of serving actual in-store customers. The proper thing to do would of been to put the call on-hold and finish serving me. Anyway, I paid $4.00 for two glazed raised donuts. The menu was incomplete, and the price per donut wasn't listed. But the donuts were fresh, and not super sweet. They were good donuts, and should earn a 4-star rating. The customer service gets 2-stars. Shop interior gets a 2-star score. All that extra stock belongs in a backroom, not piled up in front of donut cases. Would I return? Yes, for good donuts. The man behind the counter is friendly. The donuts and cronuts were okay. A bit on the tough side. They can microwave them for you. These are probably leftover pastries. The ambiance is very casual and on the tight side. Probably just come here if you need something in a pinch. read more

So I showed up seeking a random lunch place. As far as claims of old donuts I can't speak, I didn't order any. As far as staff, they were friendly. I actually had a bah mi, a chicken one. It was quite delicious, however I saw an old leaf of cilantro, I didn't care I've eaten worse my stomach can handle it. I would eat another one. The attention to detail to the establishment lacks . Other reviews say the lady doesn't wash her hands, I'll say benefit of a doubt , some folks do hand sanitizer. Also I saw a fridge that was both for food storage and merchandise. I did think the bah mi was good, the place misses a few points to be wonderful I would go again. Haven't been here in years and now I remember why. Stopped by this AM to get some donuts. They were stale, likely day old. Microwaving solved the texture issue though. More offensive was the taste. Ordered a glazed regular, maple bar and Apple fritter ($8.50 total). The flavor was awful. Wife thought they used too much salt, I think they used rancid oil or had cooked something savory in the oil before frying the donuts. On my first day of work, I found myself in Brisbane early and wandered over to Christy's Donuts. The first thing I noticed was the popularity of this place, everybody loves their donuts and coffee on their way to work in this cute little town. People are friendly, say hello and know each other. So different from the hustle downtown, the long lines for coffee, breakfast always on the go and the Starbucks on every corner. Although donuts are not on my diet, every now and then I'll order an Old Fashioned with my large coffee. The coffee is non-fancy, cup of joe and it's good. I was SO looking forward to going back to this spot for the 2nd time. Found this place on accident while going to our wedding florist appointment. We were hungry for breakfast and I tried their funky mocha smoothie which is delicious & thick! HOWEVER, this trip was not as pleasant. We ordered the following: -dozen donut holes -sausage breakfast croissant sandwich -bacon breakfast croissant sandwich -funky mocha smoothie I got the donut holes right away, as expected. Then I proceeded to wait outside with my family and the dogs while they prepared the sandwiches and my drink. 3 white men came in AFTER me and proceeded to get their donuts AND SHAKES BEFORE me and came in and out while I was still left waiting for another sandwich AND my drink. The lady employee (maybe Christy? I don't know) seemed to be doing all the work while the male employee sat and then walked around and maybe rung up one person and gave a sandwich out to another customer that came in later (so overall didn't seem to be working as hard or quickly). Basically I wanted to know WHY I got my drink AFTER 2 WHITE MEN THAT CAME AFTER ME. My husband (who was waiting outside with our son & dog) came in to complain and ask what happened and why we were waiting so long (15 minutes at least). They claimed that the men only ordered water and my drink supposedly took longer to make. Why wouldn't you start it right when I ordered?! I was before them!! And I SAW both of them order shakes and walk out with them!! Anyway, I wanted to come back but my husband is big on boycotting businesses that have crappy or discriminatory services. Day Old Donuts? May be older.... Is it really so hard to make a decent donut? Apparently so. Got a maple old fashion - lucky if it was a day old. Definitely NOT fresh - dried out. All I wanted was to satisfy a sweet craving - well, got at least half of it as I WON'T crave anything from this place again. This was a "One and Done" experience. Save your time and money. I did not plan on stopping but I needed to get my sugar fix. I had passed by here before but had never been able to stop in. Today I made the choice to intentionally stop by and get some donuts. If I had only known what I was going to have to deal with I would have turned around and saved my money. As some of the other reviews have stated the parking is good, location is good, other food places in the area, and somewhat of a decent menu selection to choose from. There is a table near the entrance but the seating is limited! The donuts selection is what you would typically expect. I was looking to get a general idea of what donuts were available and if there might be some more coming out but the cashier was neither helpful or clear on what I was asking! Not sure how that is confusing but it was. Anyway, I wound up getting the donut holes and moving things along because the cashier was not focused on CUSTOMER SERVICE in the least! What I realized halfway through the transaction was that she was on a tablet face timing or video chatting with someone, WTH! How freakin unprofessional can you be! Honestly, I was in disbelief when I realized why she seemed preoccupied and was periodically looking down when interacting with me. It was evident to me that this lady was not at all concerned about my satisfaction as a customer. This was even more clear when I tried to pay with my card. Once I pulled out my card for payment she then proceeded to tell me of the additional fee that I would have to pay due to the low cost of purchase. I then proceeded to inform her that there was no sign of any kind, neither in the window or counter, that informs customers of that. So, she then pulls her credit card machine out from behind the counter and shows me the notice regarding the credit card minimum. I guess surcharges are the normal surprise for customers that come here to make purchases unless they can see the credit card machines which happens to be behind the counter. Lastly, the donut holes were the lone bright spot at this place. I at least left content with my purchase, somewhat at least. I do not think I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service is not good and the female cashier that helped me just rubbed me the wrong way by allowing her video chat to take precedence over a business transaction, just entirely unacceptable. My husband and I go there and chow down on donuts or their ham, cheese, and egg croissiant sandwiches whenever I have my monthly appointment for Integrated Awareness in Brisbane. In the last 10 years, I haven't gotten a stale donut yet. My husband always buys a bag of at least 4 old-fashions and eats them in the car while he waits for me. I have to tell you about their great deal though... Ham, Cheese, and Egg Croissant Sandwiches for $3.95. How do they make money on these!!! They're huge! Why go to McDonald's and get the bonsai versions? Why go to Subway's and get skimpy ones on regular rolls. I was told never eat anything bigger than your head. The owner said the hours and phone number listed on Yelp are wrong) + nice owners + lots of free parking (parking lot in shopping center) + tables and chairs inside and outside + located just off Bayshore Blvd..super easy to get to and no fuss of trying to find parking or paying for it either) + decent variety of stuff: coffee, tea, cold drinks, donuts (sweet and savory), ice cream Cons: - quality of food not so good. Hot foods and ice cream included. But of course when you need a quick fix, it will have to do - Tuna Melt sandwich---had no cheese! :-( Did she forget to add cheese or was it intentionally excluded? It was also doused with a slippery mayo. I was starving but i couldnt eat the other half. I uploaded a pic, you can see it for yourself). - ice cream tastes as old as it looks. I got a small orange juice and a grilled cheese that costs $4.50 and the cheese was still cold and looked like they just toasted the bread and slapped cold cheese on there. My total came up to $10 and I asked how much the orange juice was and I know the lady made up the price and tells me it cost $2.78, really? $2.78 for this small thing. And the lady had bad customer service while ordering my "grilled cheese" she yells at me saying what kind of bread I wanted and for me to hurry up with my order. I don't usually hang out in Brisbane area but I decided to support a small local business. I got 2 dozen donuts and took off. I got to work and realized I paid $39 for 2 dozen STALE DONUTS. That cost me more than the fresh Noah's Bagel I got last week! None of my staff said anything but definitely ruined my Friday mood. My 2nd time at this location, and will defitnetly be my last. The first visit I had no choice but to come to this location to get my donut fix, oh my goodness! The donuts were horrible tasted stale, old, hard as a golf ball. The 2nd time around I didnt order any donuts but ordered some drink and other items. The drinks tasted old, bland and just no flavor. Now, there is a weird lady in charge with her uncontrollable child running around and simply annoying customers. Her husband( or whoever he is) sits in the corner and does nothing to restrain the kid or help customers..not even a freaking "good morning". And now the juicy stuff - the donuts. I really wanted to like this place. It is the only ice cream shop close by. But the lady that works at the cash register, has a serious attitude problem. My wife asked her a question about the menu, and she rolled her eyes at her. When I was given an incorrect order, she felt the need to talk to me in a condescending tone, and made it sound as though I wasn't paying attention when I placed my order. If someone hates their customers this much, why would they even be in business? I don't even want to know what's going on in the kitchen. This place seriously rocks. This place is the Creme de la Creme of donut shops. And I've been to a lot of donut shops. These are my rules: Dunkin' is to donuts as Starbucks is to coffee. Anybody who adds a "pe" to shop, loses my business. Anybody who proudly advertises anything healthy about his donuts loses my business. Anybody who has more than three tables in his shop(pe) loses my business. Now I know my business isn't enough to keep a place in the black. And while I may be egotistical (or egoistical - as I do continue to write these reviews), I do believe it is my duty in life to share the few pure joys I come across. So, how do they do it? When the guy ringing up my purchase blows flour from his fingers before hitting the cash register, he gets my business. When the guy asks me, "what kind of filling would you like?" he gets my business. When a store lists its coffee selection as "regular or decaf," it gets my business. And when a bunch of guys who look like they've spent a lifetime partaking of the tauro-confectionary arts stop by EVERY single morning, that place gets my business. So, what's good there? Anything that's a cake or an eclair are my favorites. Also, the donut holes are great, if you don't like getting crumbs on your front seats. Oh - and a half dozen are seven, and a dozen are 13. It's intentional, really. The prices are to die for btw. My morning routine, a cake donut, eclair and medium coffee cost less than four dollars. Two cakes and coffee, less than three. And a cake, donut holes, and coffee - SOUTH of $2.50. This place gets all five stars. One each for the fare, the ambiance, the service and the price, and one more for just making me happy. read more
