If you're looking for a dentist who wants to get to know you then this office isn't for you. They aren't the typical family dentistry that places pleasantries. The dentist gets the job done and then you're off. Seems like they do decent work. If you're needing flexibility look further - only open Monday- Thursday with a one hour lunch break and no evening or weekend hours. I had teeth cleaning first and it was the most comfortable cleaning I had for years, compared with all other cleanings I had before. They used the latest technology and did a great job. I then did a filling because of my gum recession. Dr. Kim had to work on me 3 times to finish the whole thing, She did an excellent job again. Dr Kim is an excellent dentist who is very thorough and continues ongoing training and continuing education to bring you the most up to date and current treatments. She also invests in the equipment and technology to offer the best care and treatment for her patients. I'm disappointed to give a poor review because there are some staff members that did their job well. However, as someone who has worked in the dental lab business, I discovered that Dr. Kim has conducted her practice that suggests to me that she is more concerned about profit rather than being a patient-centered office. I am stating this as my personal experience, but it's one that I hope gives insight to new patients who are unaware of what to expect. Pros: I am happy about Lisa's work (the hygienist) and the lead receptionist (Monica). If you're only coming in for a basic check up or cleaning then I think this office gets the job done. Cons: Granted, my dental case is more complicated than others. However, the way things were handled by Dr. Kim medically and financially were mishandled, which cost me a significant amount of time and money that I regret spending even years later. For example: +I had gone to this office for a few years to get cleanings done and I thought there wasn't problem until I had to move to Japan. In the last month before moving, Dr. Kim suddenly claimed that I showed signs of grinding at night, which was strange because Lisa never told me that before. At the time, I felt it was safer to get retainers anyways because I wanted to be safe than sorry. 1. First sign of trouble: the assistant, (Jina), who is also their receptionist, took my impression. I could tell she did it incorrectly because she mostly pressed it at the back rather than the front so it was angled too steep. I told her and decided to get it confirmed by Dr. Kim, who said that there was nothing wrong with it. So what happens? Two weeks later, I come in and it doesn't fit. I had to take another impression and knew it was my last chance before leaving. So I asked Jina how long she had been taking impressions (maybe she was new since she's an intern, etc...) nope. She had been taking impressions for about one year. I was surprised and hoped this second one would work. 2. Second red flag: I asked them how much the retainers (top and bottom) would be since they would be sending it to my family dental lab, meaning the cost should be less since our dental lab wouldn't need to charge the doctor a lab fee. They said $360+ anyway, stating very vaguely about how orthodontic insurance doesn't work that way, etc... I didn't have time to argue or even consult another doctor so I took the retainers. Guess what? I wore them for two weeks and had to throw them out because they weren't fitting either. They might be able to blame the dental lab and say that it was poorly made, but.... 3. Third red flag: I emailed them while I was in Japan to check in with them and ask for my x-rays. They didn't reply for several weeks. I had to give them a second email and then finally Jina replied, which was helpful but it made me wonder if they lost my email? 4. I moved back to WA and I think they were not expecting to see me because they genuinely looked and sounded awkwardly surprised. I told them about my orthodontic problems and they finally referred me to a couple doctors they knew. Turns out, their doctors tried to refer me to a periodontist, which I knew would cost me more than what I was asking for. I felt it was the last straw and stopped going. 5. I went to a different local doctor via multiple recommendations. He was excellent and even immediately identified the problem with my bite and what type of orthodontic work just in that first 15 minute visit. I was astounded by his competence and knowledge. I was also pleasantly surprised by how well the orthodontic treatment has been going through their referral; I felt I could trust them and am relieved I did-- they fixed all the problems I had been experiencing in the last 3-4 years. This told me that Dr. Kim (though she may have done her best) was unable to correctly identify and resolve my issues. 6. I did Invisalign and my current orthodontists told me that the retainers cost $360 ... which is basically the same amount as what Dr. Kim's office charged me despite not having the extra lab fee. My current insurance is nowhere nearly as good as what I use to be so... one possible conclusion: whatever reason that I was given before moving to Japan doesn't justify the results. I wish I did not take Dr. Kim's recommendation to get retainers to fix my phantom grinding problem. Moral of the story? Consult multiple opinions; if the office you're wondering about barely has reviews online and conveniently has appointment availability year round, it may be a sign. My current dentist and orthodontist have so many bookings because they have proven themselves to provide quality customer care and sound financial practices. Best dentist I've ever been to. It's clear she cares about her patients and their teeth. She takes time to make sure her work is right and I've not had any issues yet. I pretty much recommend Dr. Kim's office to anyone who will listen. Every now and then I get some miscommunication when dealing with the front desk but that's the only negative, and it's never created problems that couldn't be fixed. read more

Was recommended by a dental specialist friend of ours. She is very thorough with her work and personable. Even though I was ok with my dental guard fitting she wanted to make sure it was just right. It is good to have a dentist who cares about her patients, and spends the necessary time making sure everything is perfect. Very unpleasant experience. I went in as a new patient for my routine cleaning. The Dr. found cavities that needs to be filled. They scheduled me 2 days after to have the cavity fixed. This tells me their schedule is not full since they have availability immediately. Not a busy office? not surprised. Anyway, prior to making the appointment to take care of my cavities, I asked the front office staff if the fillings are covered by my insurance. She said, "YES IT IS COVERED BY YOUR INSURANCE". After a month, I received a bill saying I owe $408.80 for the two fillings. What happened here is that my insurance ONLY covered amalgam/ silver filling and not resin/tooth colored filling but they've decided to do resin which is not covered by insurance. Why? I don't know, maybe more money for them. I can't think of any other reason other than that sorry.... When the billing lady called to ask for payment, I asked her, I thought you said the fillings were covered by my insurance? Guess what the billing lady said? --- "You are responsible for knowing your insurance plan, the contract is between you and your insurance company" (non-verbatim). I was appalled because I specifically asked them and told them that I will only do treatment that's covered by my insurance and she told me that the treatment they will be doing is a covered procedure basing on my insurance coverage. Guess what I did? I left and took my business elsewhere. The doctor sent an apology letter a few days after but why didn't they bother doing something about it when the problem arose? Why did they have to wait for me to tell them that I will be sharing my bad experience to friend and family before offering an apology? I just wanted to update everyone since I last wrote this post. Once again, Dr.Kim's stuff delivered amazing services. Just when I thought it couldn't get better; it did. You see, I'm very particular about fees and charges. I am one of those people who need to see everything written out in terms of cost. Let just say I've had to pay for a lot of unexpected fees. I've been to other places and for whatever reason other office staffs will not disclose fees or provide me with a estimated cost. I normally get the run around answer of "it's cover under your insurance." Of course a month later I get charged a ridiculous amount. I am assuming it is because it requires effect on their part to actually care about their patients. Anyways I love this office and I really appreciate Jinah Choe who is Dr. Kim's assistant. She is so wonderful. She wrote me a email disclosing everything I needed to know and some that I even missed. They do care for and Dr.Kim is an amazing Dentist. Had a very bad experience with Dr. Kim. I can't trust her as a dentist as she was so laid back with my issue that she created at the first place. I had a cavity filling and then after few days I started having pain while flossing. When I brought it up to her, she said we might need to do a root canal as there might be a crack in your tooth due to the filing. I asked her that I wasn't informed that there might be a chance of that during the filing process. She gave me a lame reply saying there can always be a chance of death too. Should we inform as well to the patient. I changed my dentist after this incident. She is pretty rude when she makes a mistake and can't fix it and blames it on the patient. read more

Amazing!!!! It has taken me a long time to find a dentist that I trusted and most importantly felt comfortable with. I went to see Dr. Kim needing a root canal and had a major infection. After the exam I was told my root was so big I could loose my tooth. She promised me she would do her best and came through as she saved the tooth. I hesitate to go to dentist as I have never felt comfortable and Dr Kim and her entire team is the best I have ever seen. The office is extremely clean ( most important to me ) and staff truly cares. My family and I have been seeing Dr. Christy Kim and her team for close to 20 years. I lost a filling the Friday before I was scheduled to leave for a two-week overseas trip. I was leaving on Tuesday. I texted Dr. Kim and she called me right back. She said the dental staff was off that upcoming Monday, but she was going to be in the office making a few calls. And that I should to come in so she could see what she could do for me. Dr. Kim recruited billing specialist in the front office, who also has 15 plus years of dental hygienist experience, to help replace my filling. 30 minutes later I was good as new and could enjoy my trip. Dr. Kim and her team always make me feel at ease, no matter what procedure I am having done. I cannot say enough great things about them and would highly recommend them for any of your dental needs. read more

Dr. Kim is terrific. I found out about her from her hygienist Lisa who is a friend of a friend and I think I've found my new dental office. I have a lot of teeth issues because I grind my teeth at night and I swish my drinks around in my mouth, which I'm learning isn't good for my teeth. Anyway, not only have they done a great job at figuring out where I'm at, but they've got me on a plan to help me try to improve my overall dental care "practices." Lisa was excellent at training me in taking better care of my teeth (including how to brush and floss, etc..) and I don't remember many dental offices I've been to in the past doing all of this. Dr. Kim has been very helpful as well at helping me figure out how to better care for my teeth and the assistants (and Monica in the front office) are all terrific as well. I highly recommend this office. One more thing, I have kids so that was high on my priority list as well as to reasons to try this office. Lisa had mentioned Dr. Kim is great with kids and that's not always the case with dentists. read more

I was originally not going to write a review, because dental care (and health care in general) can be so subjective based on the type of care you would like to receive, but then I received a call tonight. Even after my expression of dissatisfaction with my whole process, the office manager still phoned to say I was getting billed for a fluoride treatment I didn't even want and that I was told would be covered at time of service, so I am opting to write a review of the full experience. Here goes: I recently moved back to Seattle and found Dr. Kim as she is close to my house. I saw my dentist in SoCal for just under 3 years before this (and she is amazing, message me if you need a dentist in LA). This was just a regular 6 month check up. Within a short amount of time in the chair, I was told I had SIX cavities. Not only that, but Dr. Kim was extremely unsympathetic or responsive to my shock and concern that 6 cavities could have formed in 6 short months in a 30 (something) year old woman with very good teeth (I have had one cavity in the last 10 years and before that a few right after college, but NONE growing up). Dr. Kim even stated I had such great teeth and it was "such a shame" that I had six cavities. Dr. Kim then promptly left me to have the hygienist finish up. (I do have to say that the hygienist did give a nice flossing technique recommendation which I appreciated). During the general cleaning I was also told about the fluoride treatment they were going to do and the hygienist checked with the office manager/receptionist to make sure it was covered by my insurance. I said that if there was any question regarding whether it was covered then I would not want the treatment (lots of fluoride in the water in these parts :)). She said she reviewed the coverage and said that I was eligible because it was new insurance / new time period. As for Dr. Kim, I only saw her at the end when I was leaving just because she happened to be out in the reception area. I expressed my confusion and concern for the 6 cavities and asked if we could look at the X-rays. She said that it would be very hard to see in the X-rays because they were between my teeth (which is fine). I then got my estimate which was $1k to be billed to my insurance and $500 to be paid out of pocket. She said that once she got in there and looked at my teeth she would get to know them better, but I guess that was only going to be after I was confirmed to be paying her for the 6 cavities. She did convey that she understood that it must be hard because I didn't know her, but I still felt like she barely took the time to get to know me (the hygienist worked on my teeth over 90% of the time). Anyway, I took the estimate home and then asked for my X-rays to be sent (it took a couple of emails and a phone call to receive these). I recently provided that estimate and x-rays to my previous dentist and, although she caveated with not being able to see my teeth "live" that she was very wary of recommending 6 fillings and that I had very good enamel and it would seem unlikely that cavities would be necessary. She also stated that in my last visit (6 months ago) there were two teeth that she had placed on the "watch" list. She recommended that I find another provider and even mention that she showed my file, current and historical x-rays, and the estimate to another dentist in Los Angeles to get his opinion and he stated the same thing. In the end I was just going to go ahead and just move on to another dentist without a Yelp review, but then I got a voicemail from Dr. Kim's office stating that my insurance didn't cover my Fluoride treatment and that I was going to be sent a bill for the outstanding balance. This message was left with not so much of an apology as to the misrepresentation at time of treatment, and although the amount is nominal, I am now just that much more frustrated with this whole process. Again, patient/dentist relationships are personal. I understand that Dr. Kim might just be extremely proactive in her dental care, but her bedside manner was also not something that I appreciated. If she had opted to say "here are two teeth that I think I have to make a move on and here are the others that you need to watch via aggressive flossing and sonicare" maybe I would have been more likely to maintain her and also recommend her to others, but again, maybe she just goes big or goes home when it comes to aggressive care. Dr. Kim seemed very nice and well intentioned, but yet the overall experience left me feeling like I was just another mouth full of prospective dollars. UPDATE: as a professional courtesy Dr. Chan waived the flouride treatment fee that my insurance was not going to cover, again, only $24, but it was the principle and I do appreciate the gesture. read more

I am one of those loyal people who once they find a service provider they like, it takes a lot for them to go elsewhere. (Mind you, I am very particular about what I consider to be loyalty-worthy.) I was with my previous dentist for 14 years going 40 minutes one-way. However, with gas prices hiking up, I thought I should try and find someone closer to home. Finding a good dentist is really important to me so I was very hesitant. Thankfully, I have found a wonderful replacement where I know I will spend the next 14 years. Dr. Christy Kim is first a professional - knowledgeable and very skilled at dentistry. She is second, ethical and works with integrity. I never have to worry that she might be trying to push unncessary treatment plans. She also explains things in a way where I feel confident that I'm making good, informed decisions about my oral health. Finally, with the recent remodel, her office is warm and inviting. I just moved to Seattle from San Diego, and I lost my filling last night while eating dinner. I was stressed all night not knowing which dentist to go to. I called a ton of dentists today and no one had time for me until I reached Dr. Christy Kim. She was able to squeeze me in her busy schedule. The office lobby is very welcoming and warm. Her receptionist, Cathy, was so nice and helpful in giving me directions. I was immediately greeted with a smile by Dr. Kim's dental hygienist, Melissa, and directed to my chair. After the x-ray, Dr. Kim explained what happened to my old filling and what needs to happen to save my tooth. I was very pleased with the time she spent to make me feel comfortable. I just started seeing Dr Christy Kim cuz I believe a female dentist will be detail-oriented and gentle. I found she has been very gentle and honest. She and her staffs are super nice and knowledgeable! My cleaning was very thorough and Lisa the hygienist spent so much time cleaning my teeth and showing me the proper way to take care of my teeth, gum and bridge. I have an area trapping meat all the time after a filing, several dentists said there's no way of solving the problem. Dr Kim was the first one telling me that she can fix it and she did. I'd like to give really poor review because of the admin lady, Monica. She is unprofessional rude and has an unpleasant attitude. What the dental office does is to give you a fake cost estimate saying that my insurance plan covers the white filling for cavities. I double checked with the admin in the dental office, then she answered without hesitation "yes, it IS covered by my plan". However, after all the treatment, I received a call from Monica and she said that my plan covers only mercury fillings but not white fillings and I owe several hundred dollars. I would've had mercury filling if I knew my plan does not cover white filling. Then Monica tried explain how bad mercury is on my health and Dr. Kim office doesn't do any mercury filling. Hello? I'm a Chemistry Ph.D. Don't try to lecture me on how bad is mercury (amalgam) when used for dental filling. There's little scientific evidence and literature to support harmful effect of amalgam filling on health compared to the white filling. Then Monica told me that "It's patient's responsibility to know what is covered by the insurance plan". OK, fine! Then, STOP providing patients with fake cost estimates and mislead them!!!! I have several other things that I got very frustrated with and disrespected by Monica. Nice doctor, fair dental hygiene, and poor admin. I'll change to a different dental office. read more

i've been working with this group for 2 years. i've had 4 checkups, one filling, a night guard, and a couple of fluoride treatments. the administrative staff (monica/tanya) have been consistently responsive and informative. my consistent hygenist (lisa) and dr. kim have been fun and very thorough. there haven't been any surprises and out of pocket costs were always discussed up front. they even have good magazines in the waiting area. read more

My experiences with Dr. Kim, her assistants and receptionist are by a landslide the best dental experiences I have ever had, and I have had countless. Dr. Kim is a genuinely knowledgeable dentist, a caring, compassionate, efficient, accommodating and gentle professional. Monica, the receptionist took great care to work with and study the details and discrepancies in regards to my particular insurance company; she quoted me precisely and accurately -- a quote with which I was entirely satisfied based on the high quality work performed. Aside from that, it is evident that the staff hold a close bond and are in a sense a tightly knit family, which made my experience all-the-more pleasant as it felt homely and personal. I feel blessed to have found an office/doctor that makes me feel at ease, seeing as how generally I avoid dentists like the plague(!) due to intense anxiety. Dr Christy Kim did an amazing job on my composits! I hadn't been to a dentist in many years and my front teeth were showing wear and tear. I was really hesitant about going to the dentist and was pretty particular as to who I would go to. I wanted a female dentist and I researched and found her. Ok, this is a dentist. I get my teeth cleaned here, and periodically have other work done to insure my teeth and mouth are in good health. As far as dentists go, I could not be in better care. Dr. Kim and her staff have made "going to the dentist" a more comfortable experience for me. I am grateful that they are not only professional, but the hygienists tend to "connect" with patients, which, in my case, has helped to make any procedure less stressful. I have avoided the dentist for many years, and gone only when I absolutely had to due to a bad experience as a child. A co worker told me about her experience with Dr. Kim, and recommended I give her a try. My co worker is very particular about no surprises, and talked about how Jinah and Monica were always helpful with regard to pricing, and insurance questions. From the initial interaction via email, I knew I was going to be ok. It continued with my first visit. Every member of the staff from intake through my entire visit, and subsequent visit was mindful, kind and understanding of my apprehension. I received top notch care, valuable information, and a sense of comfort I have never experienced in the dentist chair. Everyone was perfectly professional, while still making me feel like a member of an ever growing family.
