I have has many primary care physicians in my lifetime, but his wisdom, caring, and sensible advice made for a very pleasant relationship. I rarely come to crying, but I feel a deep loss personally. I'm not privy, but I'm guessing had been dealing will some overwhelming personal issues as well as under pressure from the perils of running a practice within the current structure of medicine; low insurance reimbursements, predatory hospitals, etc. The outpouring of love, affection, and respect at the memorial service was one of the most amazing I have witnessed. I am both sickened and saddened to loose this wonderful man.

I'm in and out on time and am encouraged to ask questions, go for follow-up when necessary, and continue to refuse the $25 voluntary fee each year without a problem. In my five years with this practice, I have never had an issue with billing and have probably seen each of their doctors once (including Dr. Abbey who is no longer with them... sad face). I've also traveled to their McLean office in order to get an earlier appointment and have had no troubles there either!

I met with Dr Zahalsky as part of his Direct Care patient experience. He has chosen to contract…read morewith SignatureMD for a portion of his primary care practice. For younger patients, he told me that he is still accepting insurance. They way it works for direct care, is that for Medicare patients you pay SignatureMD $1800 per year. Due to the crazy rules of Medicare you can't give him the money. They do. He also will bill your insurance-Medicare and secondary. With the direct care agreement, he will call you and/or text you the very same day. With the money conversation out of the way (isn't it sad that medical care is first about money, then also about care), I think that Dr. Zahalsky does a very good job. FIrst of all, I think he's smart and thinks things through. Second, he genuinely cares. Next, he will make sure that if you were to need to see a high quality specialist, he'll make sure that you obtain an appointment. There is not much more I can ask. The medical care system is broken. Everyone recognizes this. Everybody feels like a insignificant cog in a money system. Doctors and nurses all seem to be burned out. I chose to spend some money so that Dr. Z can afford to spend some time with me-I had a full one hour appointment. I was able to ask each and every one of my questions and have them answered. Paying $1800/yr is not something that everyone can afford. I know that. But if you can pony up the dough, I think it's worth it.

Dr. Zahalsky is nice enough. He does the blood work himself, and after a few days it's easy to…read moreaccess your information on the online portal. The wait wasn't bad to see him. I probably won't go back, because I wasn't a fan of how he handled the fact that I had high bp. He took my bp, noted an absurdly high number, but didn't take the time to check it again later. He ranted about "protein supplements" without any detail on the supplements or even about when I use them, which I rarely was at that point. It's possible that the high blood pressure was due to dining out about 20 times a week--I am on Yelp, after all. He didn't even ask, or let me explain my poor eating habits. I solved the issue myself by watching my sodium intake and eating more fruits and vegetable I won't hold it against him that the two specialists he recommended were not helpful. I should have done my own research.

I'm so thrilled to have found a doctor who gets to know you as a person, answers questions, is…read morethorough, careful, knowledgeable, gets back to you, and works with other physicians. Dr. Haque knows her business and is a great diagnostician. She has good relationships with other doctors and when she has to refer you out, she does not hesitate to do so. There are many PCP's who like to try and be a one stop shop for any problem you have. Sometimes they can be, but other times they should not be. Dr. Haque clearly is a MD who will work with other physicans if she feels you need to have an issue looked into further. My whole family has moved to Dr. Haque. I have a kidney transplant and I found that Dr. Haque works with my nephrologist in case something is needed. I have, in the past gone to different PCP's and not all of them would work with my nephrologist. Dr. Haque is thorough, she asks questions, and she has gotten to know my whole family and after my visit, she always asks how they are. I have never had a problem with the office staff. I have called on the same day for an appointment and they try their best to get me seen. I give her a 10.

The previous reviews are interesting because I'd had similar experiences at Dr. Haque's office…read more I'll first say that I fully agree that the PA, Jennifer, is outstanding. She's a real sweetheart - very patient, genuinely concerned, and knowledgeable PA. I think Dr. Haque is a very good doctor. She's very nice, seems to ask the correct questions and has consistently provided a correct diagnosis (which is a lot more than I can say for other doctors I've been to). If I'm sick, I trust her knowledge/experience to make the correct diagnosis and prescribe the best medicine to help me feel better... she's been my doctor for the past 8-9 years and I'm satisfied with her. With this said, there have been some issues. Multiple times when I've scheduled an appointment with Dr. Haque, I've ended up meeting with her PA, Jennifer, instead because Dr. Haque was unavailable. (As stated above Jennifer is an outstanding PA so didn't mind too much but if I've set an appointment with the doctor I expect to see the doctor.). There have even been 2-3 occasions when I've set an afternoon appointment with Dr. Haque and they say she's already left for the day so I have to meet with the PA. That strikes me as EXTREMELY unprofessional and is not something I've ever experienced with any other doctor. When I've met with Dr. Haque she's great and I've never had any issues with her... the problem is that if I set an appointment with her (especially an afternoon appointment), I can never be 100% certain she's actually be at that appointment. I'm a very patient person so have let a lot of this slide over the past few years but doubt many other people would find this acceptable. But at the end of the day I think Dr. Haque is a very good doctor and, again, I can't say enough good things about her PA Jennifer!!! UPDATE: Edited to add that while I think that Dr. Haque and Jennifer are good, much of their office staff is terrible in my opinion. There have been numerous times I call the office ahead of time to get needed referrals sent to another doctor I needed to see only to find that the REFERRAL WAS NEVER SENT when I showed up at the appointment with the other doctor, which is a real pain and extremely annoying. Overall, I don't think their office staff is very reliable - I've had multiple issues obtaining simple referrals and obtaining other basic information over the years.

It even smells nice! Dr. Ascunce took his time with me, very friendly and good sense of humor. He really put me at ease. The staff is friendly and efficient, very short wait to see the doctor. I understand that some patients might take more time than others. That's natural, we all like to have time to ask questions and not feel rushed. Very little paperwork, no portals to register on, what a relief to not rely on the internet to schedule, set appointments and get test results. The pre-test 'fast' was the best I've heard of, and definitely improved my well-being. It was a 5-day, so I wasn't (ahem) in the bathroom for hours like the majority of my friends reported after 24-hour fasts. It was difficult to give up fruits, nuts and seeds at first, a staple of my diet, but I was never starving and felt great after. It's a cleanse! He went over the test results with me after the procedure, no follow up needed (phew!). I absolutely recommend Dr. Ascunce and his staff at VHC. I hope they are still in practice in 5 years!
