Yesterday my sister I was at this Ollie's in New Bedford, MA and right when we walk in we hear a…read moreman reprimand a cashier about sitting. So we look over and we see no customers waiting to cash out or anything. Talk about micro management.. why can't see relax her feet when no one is around?? Is it any skin off this man's back? I worked in a fast paced factory setting and an American Eagle store before and it wasn't that serious. I don't know who or what this man's role is but if he really didn't want an employee to be comfortable at work then he should've assigned her something else to do while she waited for customers. I've seen this cashier work there before and she is friendly and works so I really don't know what this man's problem was. Oh and also, I was shopping in the bathroom section when I saw father and son(customers) testing out a soccer ball and this man really said "we have to sell that so dont do that." I see nothing wrong with testing out a product you're potentially going to buy. If I take it home and it's flat I would return it so why not give it a little test. Needless to say the duo walked away and I don't blame them, I personally would've walked out that store really upset. So I give 5 stars to the cashier because she held her composure for the most part, she was upset rightfully so. And I DEDUCT 3 stars for that man's micro management behavior at a RETAIL store because I don't believe all Ollie's have someone like that working there and I really do enjoy Ollie's most the time. So hectic, stressful and poor work environment. Disappointed..I hope to never experience this again.

You will find yourself at Granite at some point during your island stay. Why? Because they have…read moreeverything you could ever want except for milk, eggs, reading material and lobster. And booze. But all of that is nearby. Granite has everything else. If your house is missing potholders, beach towels, a blender or a garden hose, come on over. If your kids need their Scrabble fix, a new doll or some Silly Putty, come on over. If Granny needs some knitting yarn, some new sheets or a flashlight to get around at night, come on over. If you need a window fan, some paint, a lobster pot or a new beach chair, come on over. Anyone who needs anything craft related will eventually come to Granite, along with you and your gang. Glue, tape, needles and thread, glitter, stickers, and those fat Popsicle sticks you used to make miniature forts with as a kid- they are all here. Open year round, parking is a total headache in the summer, so get here early and get out fast. After all, beach days on the Vineyard are precious. Why waste them shopping unless you absolutely have to?

I went into the store in Oak Bluffs casually looking for jewelry and I walked out with an amazing…read moresterling silver bracelet. The man at the counter (the owner) was friendly but not overbearing, and every piece of jewelry in the cases were 50% off. Even if this were a gimmicky way of making you feel like you're getting a great deal, I still felt like it was a bargain. I fell in love with a bracelet but didn't want to commit on impulse, so I asked when they closed to see if I could come back. It was almost 6 and he told me they technically "close" at 6, but that he had some merchandising to do and would probably keep the shop open a bit late. He also gave me his cell phone number and said I could call and if I was interested in anything and he could ship it to me. One of the bracelets that I tried on was uncomfortable and he told me that he is also a silversmith and would be happy to fix it for me, free of charge, if I wanted the bracelet. I am sure he was just trying to make a sale, but the fact that he went out of his way to make sure I could get what I wanted really made an impression on me! I ended up going back to purchase the bracelet later that evening and the shop was still open. He stayed late to make sure the bracelet was fully polished before I walked out the door with it. Overall, I think Slight Indulgence is a great place to shop on the Vineyard, just from my experience buying jewelry alone. I didn't even get a chance to really look at their clothes and other accessories, but upon walking in I saw a billion things that I loved. Next time I'm in the Vineyard, I'll be back!

This store is what my dad would call a "clip joint!" It has a nice window display, and when you go…read moreinside, the owners are super-friendly, asking you all sorts of (semi-intrusive) person questions about where you're from, where you're staying, how long, what you do for a living, etc. They're masters of The Shmooze, trying to relax you into thinking they're your friends. This could be seen as a lovely quality, but when it comes down to it, their goods are horribly over-priced! And even worse? The pricing isn't exactly straight-forward. Allow me to explain: Every summer, I walk into this store to see if anything has changed. And every year I'm greeted by the same "50% Off Jewelry!" sale signs prominently littering the very long jewelry display case that runs the entire length of the store. But if you look closer, in small letters, they've written that this sale only pertains to "select items"...and then when it gets down to it, it never seems to be the item that I ask to see! The prices are really high for sterling silver jewelry, by my experience, over twice what comparable items are priced at at similar stores in other towns on the Island...so it would make sense for the 50%-off sale gimick, if the items really are marked down... But I have yet to find any item there that the owner told me was on sale. I'm sure there ARE some, but it must be a very small selection that could easily be consolidated to one part of the sprawling display case without all the excessive, misleading red-inked sale signs all over the place! I'm not going to go as far as saying it's a bait-and-switch, but it also doesn't feel on the up-and-up. I haven't bought anything here as a result. They also have an abbreviated selection of women's beach-worthy clothing and shoes...maybe people will have better luck with these items? But they are also rather pricey for what they are made of and how they are made. This is a typical tourist trap store. But, I guess, if you have a lot of disposable income and prices don't matter that much to you, you may have a different impression of this place?
