Twice it was undercooked and once it was overcooked. The worst part, however was the way the people treat you. They're just not friendly at all. All three times I felt the staff was extremely rude. You're standing at the counter, waiting for them to come serve you and take your order and they just stand there and keep shooting the breeze with each other. When they do finally take your order, they act like it's a big chore. They're not courteous and they didn't once thank me for my business in the three times that I went. I'll never return.

We booked Cottage 23 a YEAR in advance--for the summer of 2026-and then received an email saying our rental had been cancelled. When I called to ask why, the woman who answered came up with a series of vague reasons. First she said, "You booked for three nights. We only book full weeks"--I explained that we booked exactly the dates that were available on their calendar, but would love to stay longer. Then she said, "Well, it probably let you book but we allow our returning guests re-book and they probably wanted the time you booked." WTH? So you take other bookings (because it was clearly available on their site) and then if a returning guest wants to book the same time, you just boot the family that already booked? I asked about other dates and she said, "It's very hard to break in. We have a lot of returning families." She did not offer to look at their other locations, she did not offer to put us on a cancellation list, she did not offer to check for any other dates--she just said, "I'm sorry you are disappointed." By the way, there are STILL open dates on their calendar for Summer 2026 but I would strongly caution against booking here because they will just cancel and give it to someone else. I had tried to visit here for over two years, and had finally found some summer dates that were open. But we dodged a bullet if this is the way they welcome you--clearly, they do not want any new business, which is ironic because they are constantly posting about cancellations on their social media. I guess this is why people go to the west side of Michigan. If this "resort" is any indication, Lake Huron seems very unfriendly.

They have three choices at the fish fry (perch, cod or shrimp) and you can choose a wet or dry batter (basically either a beer batter or a thinner bread batter) along with a variety of sides. Now, I've been to fish places all over the country, and I'm not saying this dining hall is akin to any high end seafood experience you could find in Miami, New York or Los Angeles, but for a very small town fish dinner, this is definitely a must. Our party of 4 truly enjoyed our meal, but watching all of the locals welcome each other, along with visitors like us, was what made this night special. The long dinning tables allow people to meet new friends, and the volunteer staff does a great job making everyone feel at home. They smoked marijuana everywhere, parking lot, beach, fire pit, water, and when asked to please refrain from smoking around our children and us, we were told NO. They had a speaker the size of a grill and played their music (male genitals on the ground songs) we struggled to hear each other talk. Again, when asked to be considerate and turn their music down, we were told NO. Since they are 'friends with the owner', the manager was unable to help and was told by the manager to talk to them and work it out. When I did talk with them around the fire pit and expressed how we felt, I was verbally abused and had to threaten to call the police when I was physically threatened. We left early.
