DO NOT BOOK HERE--They will sell your booking out from under you. Horrible customer service. They cancelled our vacation via email because "one of our regular guests wanted to book it." We booked Cottage 23 a YEAR in advance--for the summer of 2026-and then received an email saying our rental had been cancelled. When I called to ask why, the woman who answered came up with a series of vague reasons. First she said, "You booked for three nights. We only book full weeks"--I explained that we booked exactly the dates that were available on their calendar, but would love to stay longer. Then she said, "Well, it probably let you book but we allow our returning guests re-book and they probably wanted the time you booked." WTH? So you take other bookings (because it was clearly available on their site) and then if a returning guest wants to book the same time, you just boot the family that already booked? I asked about other dates and she said, "It's very hard to break in. We have a lot of returning families." She did not offer to look at their other locations, she did not offer to put us on a cancellation list, she did not offer to check for any other dates--she just said, "I'm sorry you are disappointed." By the way, there are STILL open dates on their calendar for Summer 2026 but I would strongly caution against booking here because they will just cancel and give it to someone else. I had tried to visit here for over two years, and had finally found some summer dates that were open. But we dodged a bullet if this is the way they welcome you--clearly, they do not want any new business, which is ironic because they are constantly posting about cancellations on their social media. I guess this is why people go to the west side of Michigan. If this "resort" is any indication, Lake Huron seems very unfriendly. read more

Had to cancel due to family emergency and was advised we wouldn't be receiving back our $350 DEPOSIT. I'll also note the cancellation was a MONTH before the scheduled stay... Scam... because they posted the rental we cancels the very day to be rented back out and will receive yet another deposit along with ours for the same dates to be rented; so double deposits. I have been really excited to come here after multiple friends and church members have come here and loved it. It has had an expansive beach area but due to Lake Huron water level as well as other lakes, the beach area is much less near the water entrance. This is something that can happen and water levels on all Great Lakes are extremely high this year. But there also is a shallow sandbar to stand in about the length of a football field away from the water entrance near the cottages. A strong swimmer or a tall person can navigate it, my son kayaked there. I used a lifevest to walk some of the journey and swam a short while. Rain dampered our first day and that has nothing to do with the resort. The movie was not able to be shown either day due to rain and lighting. We stayed at the pink cottage which is one without air, but at night the breeze is helpful. I really like the mini kitchen with coffee maker, toaster, oven and flatware, dishes, and pots. Parking is right behind your cottage. The cottages have their own bbq grill, porch, chairs on porch and picnic table with umbrella. They light up at night which is also cool. Our cottage slept 4, two in a bed and up to 2 smaller kids comfortably. With the bed down, you lose the couch area but staying on a lake, you tend to be outside anyway. There is sandy area near each cottage/condo with community sand toys if needed. My son and I enjoyed playing fowling(bowling using a foot ball). The office has water supplies as well as rentals of kayaks. There is staff 24/7 for all needs and very friendly and helpful. There also is a seating area inside with bar stools. Condos and other cottages have different features and designs. I didn't mind the smaller area and like the sliding door in between the front and back portion. There also is a flat screen tv and free wifi. I like the foot wash tub to clean your feet off and the outside hooks for towels. There is a pier for fishing and walking and a bonfire pit which was only for one night due to wet wood. Overall, it was a good stay despite a weather disappointment. Be sure to catch a sunrise if you are an early bird, they are epic. read more

As I'm sure the resort is a great place to stay, I'll be reserving my money for another vacation stay simply due to the staff's customer service being severely cold and dismissive. If they are booked, their website takes you to an email system. When I emailed, their response was simply, "Check our facebook for vacancies." instead of putting me on the wait list that their company had set up and asked me to do in the first place. This doesn't help me at all since I don't have/use a facebook, so their answer to that was "Call us in the summer." They gave me the excuse "We'd be 100 emails deep if we did that", ya know, because going through reservations (as a vacation resort) is so hard??? Needless to say, they sent me another email saying that they were updating the website, but called passing me to facebook "a courtesy" instead of apologizing even once. Seriously, 4 emails, not a single instance of "I'm sorry." or "I can put you on a list and make a note." I'm sure the company will respond on here trying to spin it like they are angels, but simply put they were passive-aggressive and dismissive. Go for the pretty colored cabins, but just know they see you as walking dollar signs and not much else. read more

Bright and colorful resort with affordable cabins on a perfect Lake Huron spot. Cabins are clean, attractive and provide all the basic needs like silverware/plates/bowls/coffee maker and kitchenette appliances. Their strip of beach is clean and quiet. Picnic tables and playground equipment could use some updating, but not a deal breaker. They offer kids movies at night on the beach, and a big fire pit for those who choose to mingle. It's quiet and the beach/water is fantastic. Tawas and Oscoda do not offer a lot to do entertainment wise, but if you are looking for a laid back outdoorsy vacation it's a great spot. Beautiful, clean, scenic and good people are the foundation of this area. We will definitely be going back! read more

We LOVE Mai Tiki and look forward to returning year after year! We have our yearly family reunion here and couldn't be happier. If you're coming here for luxury it's not for you, this is the place you go to unwind and disconnect from the world, think of it a little cottage in the woods, except you get the gorgeous view of Lake Huron and a sandy beach (HUGE PLUS).When we are here we are enjoying the great outdoors, so the indoors don't need to be perfect, they just need to give us a place to lay our head get a bite to eat and a quick shower. The staff is friendly and always available for anything you need, if you want to get away with a good view this is the place to go! Very disappointed!!! My family & I were so excited to book this place after 2 years of trying! Only to have our reservation canceled! The "manager" left me a message at 9:34am to ASK if I wanted to extend my stay on my voicemail. I was packing meals for my local school kids & am not aloud to have my phone on me. I called her back in an hour & a half!!!! An email was also sent @ 10:56 NOT explaining why just that it was canceled. I called her at 11:14am only for her to tell me SO rudely that she gave it away & booked someone else. Now I called this location 2 times to confirm my reservation. The owner who obviously doesn't care about her resort or how her employees treat customers, NEVER bothered to call me back! What kind of business are you running? Not the way I wanted to spend my Anniversary!! I'm so happy we are NOT giving them a dime of my hard earned money! Thank God we are able to go to another location in Michigan, because I already took time off to stay at their resort. Not that they cared. There is no disclaimer ANYWHERE stating that your reservation will be canceled because your not staying long enough for their liking, because funny enough our already "booked" reservation, suddenly became available later that evening. I responded to it on Facebook only to have them BLOCK ME! Seriously, I was only trying to warn other people to be careful, especially during these times. read more

Both sinks clogged. No light in the shower. Walls put up so there's only two small outlets to the lake. Unfriendly staff. About one foot on either side of the bed. Band consists of one older man with a guitar singing everything from pop to reggae. Terrible. Small community firepit. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. This place is the best! My husband and I stayed for a week in cottage 17. It was small but quaint. Enough room for us to relax and enjoy the sound of the waves. Our cottage was beach front so we spent most of our time bbq-ing on our deck. We had a small issue with our sink, but the handyman was there in a gif and the problem was solved immediately. We were here 27 August 2016 - 02 September 2016. We had three amazing cottages at the former El Cortez, now the Tiki Beach Club although the old signage is still there. Didn't care! We were a family of 13 that were blessed enough to have cottages 10, 11 & 13. From the moment of check-in to check-out we had beautiful weather, extremely clean cottages, LOVED the foot bath provided at the front doors of the cottages to dip sandy feet in before entering cottages. All staff, especially Justin worked incredibly hard to make the stay entertaining. From putting up and taking down the massive screen for movies on the beach, providing the firewood for the bonfires each evening and the plethora of requests for anything and everything of the guests staying at the individual resorts. We watched the cleaning staff clean and prepare the cottages for occupancy. The beach is spectacular! Would not hesitate to re-book. As to the isolated feeling of being at the 3rd resort and away from the fun and activities of Mai Tiki resort, we were pretty happy being together for our family vacation enjoying our own game night, family dinners, bonfire and treasure hunt we put together for our "littles" if we wanted to attend the activities, all we had to do is walk down the beach to it. No big deal to do that. I will say, BEWARE at night walking the beach as all resorts, not just the Mai Tiki ones, have very pointed spiky remains of old wooden piers sticking up from the sand. Ridiculously dangerous even with water shoes on. Day or night but especially at night. Flashlights recommended. Saw many injuries happen including to our granddaughter's foot. In summary, will forgive the El Cortez signage, it was just bought by the Mai Tiki peeps. Give them a moment on putting up the Tiki Beach Club one. Clean cottages. Well stocked with everything you need to get you through your stay. Bring tall garbage can liners. Wish the entire area provided recycling, they do not. Have fun! Use the foot bath!
