The prices seem just a bit high but with having the indoor pool and offering a great breakfast you won't even blink twice. The only cons is that there is not a restaurant in the hotel itself. I think that would be a great added feature since good restaurants are getting slim in the area. Lastly, the beds are hard and it's hard to get comfortable. Especially if you have a bad back like I do.

The cottages were a little dated and very basic, right on the beach with incredible lake views. Steps to the lake, access to your own small strip of beach including lounge chairs and fire pit. WiFi/cell service was spotty. There are kitchen supply essentials for your convenience, but stop at the Walmart in town for groceries or any of the many party stores on your way. The cottages are a short drive in either direction to Oscoda or East Tawas, where you'll find grocery, gas stations, chain eateries plus a handful of local places, and a few options for entertainment like bowling and movies. Super adorable Alpena is about an hour away and Mackinac Island is roughly 3-4 hours, if you fancy a day trip.

It is about 130 miles from home but think about if you were a long way from home. Death on a trip is not something you have planned for especially in your 50's.

Room was more run down and less clean that I remembered from prior stays. Bed a bit lumpy. Also locals warn about bedbugs, but I thnk that was a long time ago and it was addressed with no recent issues (so said the person at the front desk when I asked). Still I will not go back. This place might now be even worse that Rodeway down the street (maybe - ok probably not THAT bad) Running out of places to stay in Oscoda without long reservations. Air BnB may be the only practical answer unless you want to spring for the pricy new hotel on the beach.

After my contactless (COVID protocol) check in, I entered a room was clean and well maintained. The wood paneling and the (plastic) antlers over the bed gave an up-north rustic atmosphere that wasn't over-the-top kitschy as is the case at some of these older mom-n-pop operations. Bed was on the soft side but not uncomfortably so. Thicker curtains wouldn't be a bad idea here, as the lights over the sidewalk along the front of the motel shine through rather brightly. Bathroom was clean. The shower looked like it had been recently retiled. A full closet gave room to keep my luggage and gear convenient but out of the way. I would have liked a little more light in the rear end of the room, over the table, as I had some work to do while there. This wasn't primarily a working trip for me, but if you were staying on business, you might want to bring a table lamp. At least the table is large enough to comfortably spread out a laptop, papers, etc. A good find, with better quality and value than most comparable motels.
