They smoked marijuana everywhere, parking lot, beach, fire pit, water, and when asked to please refrain from smoking around our children and us, we were told NO. They had a speaker the size of a grill and played their music (male genitals on the ground songs) we struggled to hear each other talk. Again, when asked to be considerate and turn their music down, we were told NO. Since they are 'friends with the owner', the manager was unable to help and was told by the manager to talk to them and work it out. When I did talk with them around the fire pit and expressed how we felt, I was verbally abused and had to threaten to call the police when I was physically threatened. We left early.

I have been really excited to come here after multiple friends and church members have come here…read moreand loved it. It has had an expansive beach area but due to Lake Huron water level as well as other lakes, the beach area is much less near the water entrance. This is something that can happen and water levels on all Great Lakes are extremely high this year. But there also is a shallow sandbar to stand in about the length of a football field away from the water entrance near the cottages. A strong swimmer or a tall person can navigate it, my son kayaked there. I used a lifevest to walk some of the journey and swam a short while. Rain dampered our first day and that has nothing to do with the resort. The movie was not able to be shown either day due to rain and lighting. We stayed at the pink cottage which is one without air, but at night the breeze is helpful. I really like the mini kitchen with coffee maker, toaster, oven and flatware, dishes, and pots. Parking is right behind your cottage. The cottages have their own bbq grill, porch, chairs on porch and picnic table with umbrella. They light up at night which is also cool. Our cottage slept 4, two in a bed and up to 2 smaller kids comfortably. With the bed down, you lose the couch area but staying on a lake, you tend to be outside anyway. There is sandy area near each cottage/condo with community sand toys if needed. My son and I enjoyed playing fowling(bowling using a foot ball). The office has water supplies as well as rentals of kayaks. There is staff 24/7 for all needs and very friendly and helpful. There also is a seating area inside with bar stools. Condos and other cottages have different features and designs. I didn't mind the smaller area and like the sliding door in between the front and back portion. There also is a flat screen tv and free wifi. I like the foot wash tub to clean your feet off and the outside hooks for towels. There is a pier for fishing and walking and a bonfire pit which was only for one night due to wet wood. Overall, it was a good stay despite a weather disappointment. Be sure to catch a sunrise if you are an early bird, they are epic.

We booked Cottage 23 a YEAR in advance--for the summer of 2026-and then received an email saying our rental had been cancelled. When I called to ask why, the woman who answered came up with a series of vague reasons. First she said, "You booked for three nights. We only book full weeks"--I explained that we booked exactly the dates that were available on their calendar, but would love to stay longer. Then she said, "Well, it probably let you book but we allow our returning guests re-book and they probably wanted the time you booked." WTH? So you take other bookings (because it was clearly available on their site) and then if a returning guest wants to book the same time, you just boot the family that already booked? I asked about other dates and she said, "It's very hard to break in. We have a lot of returning families." She did not offer to look at their other locations, she did not offer to put us on a cancellation list, she did not offer to check for any other dates--she just said, "I'm sorry you are disappointed." By the way, there are STILL open dates on their calendar for Summer 2026 but I would strongly caution against booking here because they will just cancel and give it to someone else. I had tried to visit here for over two years, and had finally found some summer dates that were open. But we dodged a bullet if this is the way they welcome you--clearly, they do not want any new business, which is ironic because they are constantly posting about cancellations on their social media. I guess this is why people go to the west side of Michigan. If this "resort" is any indication, Lake Huron seems very unfriendly.

I have been coming to visit Larry at Rollway's Canoe Rental since I was a kid. They offer several…read moretrips up the Ausable River including a 5 hour canoe/kayak trip, a 3 hour canoe/kayak trip, and a 3 hour tube trip. They also offer over night trips if your looking for even more adventure. Prices are reasonable, $45 for a canoe, $35 for a kayak, and $14 for a tube. They are able to accommodate small and large groups with buses and vans. All their trips take you to the Ausable river, which is a large beautiful river that offers many swimming areas and many great views. You may even get lucky enough to see a bald eagle.

There wasn't as many easy access stops on the sides, though. Negatives: From the very beginning, the owner or manager was extremely cold and rude. We waited 15 minutes for him to come check us in, which is fine, but once he walked into the check in room, he barked at us "what do you want". The entire conversation was uncomfortable like we were putting him out. A few other couples we met later on the trip said the same exact thing as well. The ride to the drop off area was a bit wild. The busses went so fast and once the guys pulled our canoes off the back of the busses, they didn't say a word to us or tell us any tips on how to get into the docking area. They barely let us have time to ask any questions if we had any--they literally duped us off and left within seconds. The end of the trip was quite interesting as well. The sign to get off is covered in weeds. There is no current for the last 1/2 hour of the 5 hour trip. It would have been nice to have known that but it wasn't too big of a deal for us since we had the canoes anyway. The worst part was finding the dock. It was extremely hidden and you could easily miss it with the lack of the sign and the way it was positioned. Once you get off, the workers weren't any more friendly than earlier. You also have to walk about 10 flights of stairs up a cliff, so be aware! Wish they would have done a better job with giving us that as a heads up.
