I have been coming to visit Larry at Rollway's Canoe Rental since I was a kid. They offer several trips up the Ausable River including a 5 hour canoe/kayak trip, a 3 hour canoe/kayak trip, and a 3 hour tube trip. They also offer over night trips if your looking for even more adventure. Prices are reasonable, $45 for a canoe, $35 for a kayak, and $14 for a tube. They are able to accommodate small and large groups with buses and vans. All their trips take you to the Ausable river, which is a large beautiful river that offers many swimming areas and many great views. You may even get lucky enough to see a bald eagle. read more

Positives: the 5 hour trip down the Ausable river was great. It really was a pretty trip down with our canoes. We saw some awesome wildlife! There wasn't as many easy access stops on the sides, though. Negatives: From the very beginning, the owner or manager was extremely cold and rude. We waited 15 minutes for him to come check us in, which is fine, but once he walked into the check in room, he barked at us "what do you want". The entire conversation was uncomfortable like we were putting him out. A few other couples we met later on the trip said the same exact thing as well. The ride to the drop off area was a bit wild. The busses went so fast and once the guys pulled our canoes off the back of the busses, they didn't say a word to us or tell us any tips on how to get into the docking area. They barely let us have time to ask any questions if we had any--they literally duped us off and left within seconds. The end of the trip was quite interesting as well. The sign to get off is covered in weeds. There is no current for the last 1/2 hour of the 5 hour trip. It would have been nice to have known that but it wasn't too big of a deal for us since we had the canoes anyway. The worst part was finding the dock. It was extremely hidden and you could easily miss it with the lack of the sign and the way it was positioned. Once you get off, the workers weren't any more friendly than earlier. You also have to walk about 10 flights of stairs up a cliff, so be aware! Wish they would have done a better job with giving us that as a heads up. read more

This was an extremely terrible experience. We paid more then any other canoe experience to do all the work the workers should have done. we get dropped off with no direction or help carrying metal canoes down the cliff. The guy took the canoes off the trailer and left immediately. No directions or help carrying these heavy things down or getting them into the river. At the end we spent 20 extra minutes trying to find the dock to get off. The leaving signs are extremely hidden along with the dock. You then had to tie down your canoe and carry the paddles and cushions up over 200 stairs up a cliff. (Again no workers) after we reached the top of the stairs we think we are being picked up by the worker to find out we are in a forest and left to realize we have to walk all the way back to where the office and our car was. So still carrying all the stuff we find our way back (luckily knew where we were only because we used the restrooms across the street before the trip. Otherwise we would have been completely lost.) and across a busy road to drop our things off. Terrible experience and definitely think the cost should have been way less seeing as how we paid to work. Never again! read more

I love coming here whenever I'm in the area. It's only $40 a canoe and they take you right to the drop off point, ending up back at Rollways. I usually do the 2 1/2 hour trip and the Au Sable is simply gorgeous! I would recommend this to any and all age groups! read more
