Went there recently and was told by coockoo acting staff that they were out of lobster and clams, well that sorta kills the whole reason to come here besides the chowder. Atmosphere has regressed to all the charm of an airport lunch counter. One of those coockoo waitresses was very rude to a younger couple sitting next to us who politely asked for a sample taste of the bottle of wine they wanted to order, she was just awful to them, they practically begged her (if the wine was sold by the glass, it shouldn't have been a problem in my opinion). First let me say the New England seafood is excellent! I have been going there for years, However, sadly since the new owner has taken over the pricing for all meals has spiked and the portions have shrunk. Not to mention they've done away with a number of longtime favorites! If you're looking for a seafood restaurant in Jupiter Florida you're much better off going to Schooners or Captain Charlie's, the portions are much bigger (Example: scallops at chowder heads are $25 for the dinner and you only get three scallops, at Schooners you get seven or eight scallops for the same price) the pricing at Schooners and Capt. Charlie's is much more reasonable and the food and service at both restaurants is excellent. read more

OK IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO ONLY ONE REVIEW ABOUT THIS RESTAURANT........THIS IS THE ONE TO LISTEN TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK I hate long reviews, but with all the mixed signals being sent by everyone here, there are many things that need addressing. I'm a big seafood fan so my wife hears about Chowderheads and wants to take the family there. Unfortunately we find out the their WPB location is not open yet, so we have to drive 45 minutes from Wellington. With 3 little girls, 2,4,6, waiting a long time is not a option and being a Saturday night I called first. The lady asked how long it would take us to get there and when I told her she said our table will be ready. Now on the car ride there I start reading all these reviews and start to feel some mixed emotions about this trip. Not sure what to expect when I walk in now. So we get there and right away (Kelly) the server recognizes our party and sure enough, our table is ready! Good start! As we walk to our table, we walk by who I assume is is Edwin W, the cranky business manager that people have spoke about here. Well....he acknowledged us & smiled and greeted my girls as we sat down. That sure wasn't the ratchety cranky old guy that I had expected from some of these reviews. Service was spot on. We order 1/2 water and 1/2 lemonade for my three little girls who seem to all have wooden legs and can drink gallons of liquid. (Surely a servers nightmare). The place was packed and the 2 girls working didn't stop moving. I mean if you come here expecting the service of Eleven Madison Park, NY, then your barometer is askew. As I sit and wait I observe the decor. Nice feel, friendly setting, especially if you are a New Englander. Chair seats are a little hard and could be padded a little better, but that's petty and really the only issue I had with the decor. So I begin to watch Edwin W to see if any signs of the patron described Jekyll and Hyde. I watch as he brings over a high chair for my 2yr old. I watch him come out from behind the counter as soon as he is not busy to see if his patrons are enjoying their meals or if they need anything. He offered my wife some cracked pepper for her salad. The highlight was when it appeared to me that someone who called in a pick up, left and forgot one if their bags on the counter. I observed as, in almost O.J. Simpson/Hertz fashion, this man practically leaps over the counter and races out the door into the parking lot in an effort to catch the patron before they left. Hmmm, doesn't seem like the action of someone who lacks customer service. Now for the food. Let me begin by saying if you are complaining about price, in any establishment, then you probably shouldn't be sitting there. You want fresh Main Lobster flown in regularly, it will cost you. You want a value meal, go to McDonalds. Furthermore, anyone who knows FRESH seafood restaurants will be familiar with running out of food. (They were out of lump crab meat tonight) That's a great sign! It means you know what your eating is FRESH and hasn't been sitting around all week or frozen. You can't stockpile fresh seafood and call it fresh. An owner does best they can to estimate their daily needs. Sometimes they run out. That's ok. As far as the complaint about their soda being a house brand. This had me worried. I know in the bar business that there are companies who make generic versions of name brand colas and sell them to bars and restaurants for 1/2 the price. They usually taste disgusting. This is what I was expecting. Surprisingly their pure cane sugar sodas tasted great!! The Lobster rolls (I ordered both) were not only tasty, but packed full of meat! the NE chowder was about as good as it gets. All this plus some tasty desserts, what more can you ask for? I was so excited to see a place like this when i moved here recently. My ancestors are from Bar Harbor and i had high hopes. I had fried whole belly clams (the bigger the better for me), cole flaw, onion strings and I got the Manhattan clam chowder to take to work for lunch. What a great find between Jupiter and Juno beach! A little hole in the wall with the best new England white clam chowder in the world. No kidding. It's full of clams and very few potatoes and piping hot. Wasn't really hungry so didn't get to try much else but in chatting with the owner about what we could take out that would be suitable for eating two hours later, he correctly advised that the lobster roll wouldn't work for that. I came in for some steamers and ordered a full pound. The order came and thought I received 1/2 of a pound. The waitress told me she asked the new chef and was told it was a pound though the old chef "piled up the clams" He clearly had his finger on the scale. We were in the area, Jupiter, and decided to try Chowder Heads. It's in a quaint little plaza on US 1. It was OK, it wasn't memorable, it was a bit pricey. I got 5 fried shrimp for 20$, that and some onion rings and slaw. The shrimp were tasty and so were the rings and slaw. Had some of there New England chowder, 5$, it was OK.....my wife on the other hand had their lobster bisque and let me have a taste, it was very good, but the bisque and chowder came in tiny little cups. The silverware was very small too, mini spoons and forks. I did get a huge glass of ice tea and the server kept it filled....bonus for her, Big Tip, after all she just serves the food. Our first and last time at Chowderheads in Jupiter. Were seated by a fairly harried and abrupt waitress. Not the welcome we were hoping for. As far as the food is concerned, the whole bellied clams were just good, a bit greasy, not as tasty as I would have liked and way overpriced. ($28 for the dinner). For $28, I want GREAT, The onion strings were just ok, the salad was good. The other dish we ordered was the fried shrimp. A bit more reasonably priced at $16, but it turned out, way overpriced for the quality and taste. The shrimp were undercooked and translucent, not once, but twice, (when sent back), and had an off taste that lingered for hours after. Totally UNsatisfying. The sweet potato fries were excellent, and the cole slaw was very good. The Manhattan Clam Chowder (they were out of the NE chowder), was ok, but again, overpriced at $5 a small cup, and not a full one at that. All in all, our meal was very disappointing at $63 with a tip. We will NOT be back. We could have had a much better meal elsewhere for that price. read more

I may be a native Floridian, but I've visited New England dozens of times in my life, and this Boston themed restaurant is the closest I've found in the Sunshine State to the taste of New England. This was our first experience at Chowderheads and definitely not our last! Hubby started with the signature clam chowder which was delicious. I tried the lobster bisque which although it was tasty was not as thick as I am used to my bisque being. Upon mentioning it to the waitress she informed the chef who came out to personally check on us. He brought a small dish of a seafood sample (not on the menu) as a peace offering which was amazing. From there I had the lobster pie with "Maryland style fries" and hubby had the crab cakes. Everything was prepared to perfection. Chef came out again to Check on us which really meant alot. The reason for the 4 stars instead of five was the waitress failed to refill our drinks even though we were both in need of a refill half way through our meals. Went last night. Busy Friday at peak time but we had no service problems at all. Kelly did a great job. I had a combo meal - pan sautéed fish and fried belly clams. Both were hot and fresh and delicious. The dressing for the side said (maple vinegrette?) was fantastic. My father in law had clam sandwich and onion straws. No complaints. We agreed that the sautéed fish was the best of the bunch. I wish we could have sat outside but a couple old farts went right to the table without checking in first inside. What a pleasant surprise for this former New Orleanian- where we are seafood snobs who avoid seafood when out of the Crescent City area. I couldn't find a seat at another fav place & decided to give these folks a try. Service was quick & friendly and my Clam Strips arrived HOT & perfect. Frying seafood is an "art" and so many cooks get it so wrong. I must say these folks have it RIGHT. The New England clam chowder was great, fried clams & fried oyster platters were very fresh, very lightly battered, & the fried shrimp platter was equally good. Being from Boston I do not like heavily battered seafood, which several reviews indicated. Also, after reading about rude service we found everyone to be helpful, cordial & very accommodating. Our waitress, Christy was super. One of the waitresses even brought a book over about Boston chowdha cartoons. We will definitely be back. Coming here was the best decision I ever made on vacation in florida. I only heard good things from word of mouth and just had to try it at least once. I came here alone and ordered some chowder and lobster rolls. And Oh My God the lobster rolls were literally the most delicious meal Ive had so far in 2017. Absolutely amazing. The staff were respectful and great too, And I think the owner "ed?" seems like a genuine and moral guy to be running this establishment. The best lobster rolls but also the highest prices in the area. There are often coupons such as $10 for $20 in food. If you do get a coupon be prepared to hear the waitress explain about how it requires ordering drinks. Unprofessional staff but will likely return with coupon for lobster roll. Note the lunch lobster roll is priced less than the dinner but also has smaller roll and less lobster. Steamers are good but also high priced. Being originally from New England this place brought back feelings of being back in CT along the shore. A quaint, very clean small establishment. The waitresses were all friendly and took the time to chat with us. Now for the food - OUTSTANDING! My husband had the hot lobster roll and says, "New England taste revisited". Delicious. Me, I'm a landlubber so I had the best freshly made chicken salad on a grilled butter roll. Yum! Now we couldn't leave without having a piece of the Boston Cream Pie which was just fair but tasty. Ate here again !!! This is a must for someone traveling or staying in the Jupiter area. The shrimp are the size of my fist and delicious. The clam chowder New England is the best we have ever had.
