Well, if you like, going to a Vietnamese restaurant where the cooks smoke their cigarettes outside with the same latex gloves that they make the food with... talk about unsanitary. I've gotten horribly sick three times eating at this restaurant. They doubled their prices since they first opened up for business, and the portions are about half the size since then. read more

Nice and pocket- friendly place to eat in Monterey. Outdoor dining seating was available. I noticed they have a lot of Take Out orders too. I ordered the Veggie Wonton Ramen Soup. The broth was very tasty as well as the wonton. I wasn't a fan of the noodles though. My hubby liked The five spiced chicken with Rice noodles. He said the chicken was tender and juicy. The fried Tofu was our favorite. It wasn't oily at all. The House Milk tea was ok. For me, It needed more of that milk tea flavor. Overall, it was a great experience and we'll come back again if we're in the area. The staff were friendly and the service was fast. read more

Stayed at a hotel next door & decided to try take-out, indoor dining was also available. Beef & beef ball pho was packaged nicely with the noodle separated from the soup & meat. The bro had really great flavors, comforting on a chilly nite. Beef was acceptable & beef ball chewy. For some reason when we added the soup to the noodle the whole mixture tasted relatively bland. Weird. #12 BBQ pork & shrimp over vermicelli noodle was ok. The bbq pork was a bit disappointing, the meat itself was dry but coated in some kind of "bbq" sauce which was a bit overly sweet & salty. If u r looking for that smoky char grilled flavor & texture in a classic Vietnamese grilled pork, this is not it. Overall the food is acceptable & price is very affordable, will consider returning for the pho. read more

Worst pho I've had since Tallahassee. Order from the Seaside location instead. Broth is watery and flavorless. Meat is similarly flavorless and chewy. read more

STARS: 2.5 MENU AND FOOD: They offer a variety of dry and soup noodles along with rice plates and Vietnamese sandwiches. SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE: Service could have been more attentive and friendlier. It did take a while to have my order taken and for water to arrive. PARKING: They have a small parking lot along with street parking. IMPRESSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: I had their rare steak pho, but the broth lacked depth and flavor, and was likely supplemented by some sort of pre-packaged seasoning. Their steak was also chewy. Unfortunately, I will likely not return. read more

This used to be the go to spot for a bahn mi. Used to be. The grilled beef is listed on the menu available in two ways: lemongrass and barbecue. Makes no difference which version is ordered because they both will be prepared the same regardless, but neither as barbecue or lemongrass. Strike one Neither bahn mi ordered had any jalapeños. A bahn mi is simply not a bahn mi without jalapeños. Strike two No fresh smoothies were available, only "powered" or "syrup" as they were just "out" of ingredients, according to the wait staff. Strike three YOU'RE OUT read more

I'm not overly familiar with Vietnamese cuisine, so I can't really comment if this was good or bad. We mainly chose this place because it had an entire menu section dedicated toward vegetarian/vegan food, and it was right next door to our hotel. We ordered noodles + vegetables, and spicy BBQ tofu. They were both fine. Nothing to get excited about, not hot or spicy, pretty middle of the road taste-wise. My favorite is Thai food and I like it pretty spicy, so compared to that, this was bland. But it didn't taste bad, that's for sure. It just wasn't up to my usual level of flavor, which in my opinion Thai food is very flavorful. Any other Asian cuisine besides Thai generally tastes bland to me, so that's my yardstick. I give it four stars because of the extensive section dedicated to vegetarian/vegan items. That's my number one concern when choosing a restaurant. The only weird thing about this place is the booth we were sitting in. See the photo, and check out the pole that is inside the booth, not allowing you to sit close to the table. The pole prevents the seat from being close to the table, so you kind of have to sit on the edge of the seat once you start eating. Plus you can't enter the booth from the left side, the pole blocks you from sitting down on that side. Just a bit strange; I've never encountered a restaurant with that design before. read more

Came here for lunch, loved it and came back for dinner! The menu selection is pretty wide, delicious, reasonable, and very authentic. For lunch we had the Pho ga Chicken Noodle which did wonders for our stomach of getting seasick on the whale watching tour. Friendly and personable service and loved the Snow Bubba drink. Highly recommend if you're in Monterey for the weekend and craving Vietnamese food. read more

Monterey is a "go to" for us and for some reason we've never tried this place until this time. I wish we would have tried it sooner because it was AMAZING!!! We ordered Pho, Lemongrass chicken and pork spring rolls. Pho: Pipping hot, well seasoned, the veggies were fresh and the best part was the chicken which did not taste like "cardboard" as we have experienced from other places. Lemongrass Chicken: A little bit of sweet and spicy. I believe they use sweet chili sauce with it. The chicken, onions and other items in the dish were all good. The Jazmine rice was also cooked to perfection. Pork Spring Rolls: You get three. The veggies were fresh and the pork tender and well seasoned. The peanut sauce was also very good. There is a small private parking lot and curbside parking. Our server was ok. She did not do anything wrong but was just not as friendly as we would have liked (personal opinion). We can't wait to come back to taste more of the menu. read more

My daughter brought me here, she has excellent taste. It was one of her favorite places to eat when she was at college. The food is good, the portions are big and the price reasonable. The service was on point catering to all our needs. I recommend it! read more

Walking in, it was a cute little restaurant, with a good amount of people for lunch. The menu had a lot of food options including vegetarian dishes. The service was quick but the food was meh. I got the stir fried chicken and it was greaser than a Costco pizza. The shrimp fried rice came with 1 shrimp and the whole dish was dry and difficult to swallow. The pho broth tested watery and the noodles seemed overcooked. I gave it two stars because the service was fast and the avocado boba was good. read more

We ordered 3 order of pho and eggplant tofu. We didn't have high expectation since it's in Monterey but they all tasted pretty decent. Price is reasonable too. Will come back the next time we are in Monterey. read more

In town and I craving spring rolls. We went and ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, 5B, oolong milk tea, and a passion fruit mango black tea. ($27) The food came out FAST! The spring rolls were a bit oily inside and they weren't consistent with the amount of protein. The peanut sauce had good flavor. The pho had rich flavors and the right amount of meat. The oolong milk tea was made with creamer and had zero tea flavor! Literally tastes like creamer and water with boba. Quite a disappointment. The passion fruit mango black tea was extremely sweet, tasted like syrup, and had no tea flavor either! Im glad we used the restroom on the way out because I would've lost my appetite had we have gone before. The floor was a puddle (looked like the toilet was leaking), dirty dark buildup around the sink, and it smelled like dog urine! Overall, the food was good, the drinks were a disappointment, and the bathroom was worse than a gas station. read more

Their portions for protein and noodles for the to go orders is getting smaller and smaller. Ordered 5a large combo tonight and it was less than a cup of noodles, 1/2 meatball, no shrimp, no chicken (of all things).... majority was broth. Have been ordering here for 4 yrs now n it's disappointing. read more

This place is a hidden gem. Very friendly staff and clean restaurant. We got the chicken and beef meatball pho and shrimp egg roll. The chicken pho is very flavorful, and beef meatball got 4 stars. Shrimp egg rolls is a must. read more

It's a PHO place!!! Small and cute and even though it is small they have several seating. There is a private parking lot which you know makes me happy!!! So our order was takin right away but it took awhile for the food to come. They weren't that busy and we barely saw the staff. They have a pretty small counter with a kitchen in the back. They bring the food when it's ready but you have to go to the counter to pay so remember what you ordered. The PHO tasted like the standard PHO nothing special. But the chicken wings were really good. It tasted like Asian zing with a crispy twist!!! We also ordered Vietnamese coffee and it was delish! The downside to this tiny place is the restroom is outside near the trash so don't ask...yes it smelled. And the bad thing about it this is also where the front door is. read more

Did not cook my food enough to be edible, and NO spices . Brought my order 10 minutes after my families and still screwed it up.

Food not very good, not very authentic...too much sugar. Busy casual ambiance. Rushing customers.

We were fooled by the many positive reviews and the awards. If you enjoy authentic vietnamese foods or have lived in San Jose, then do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else. We ordered Bun Bo Que and some dry noodles, and man shit was sad. The presentation made tears drop from my eyes. The foods tasted like disappointment, and I told my wife that her cooking was 100 times better at that moment. At least she was happy. If you need a place to remind you how good your wife food tasted, then I highly recommend going here for a fresh reminder! Lol read more

It wasn't the best, wasn't the worse. Probably I'm biased, but I prefer my broth to be darker. The broth was very light, but I could taste a bit of the saltiness. Had to add lots of the condiments in order for it to taste better. Also, the serving is small. Ordered a large and it didn't fill me up, I could probably eat a few more bowls. Along with the price, it was not worth it for that small of a serving. I ordered the #0 read more

My wife and I came here with our 3 month old baby. They sat us and then kicked us out of our seats, saying there was actually someone in front of us. We just left and went to Islands down the street, which was a much better experience. Keep reading for more details. My wife and I have come here plenty of times before and haven't had any issues, but I was appallad at what what happened this time. I have never had a restaurant do this. There was a line to be seated, and the hostess came and took the names of everyone standing in line. There was this other family in front of us who left after they took names. Everyone else stayed in line. They came back calling the name of the family in front of us, but they left, after they confirmed they were no longer there, they then called our name and seated us at the next table availble. After we sat down and finally got our baby's car seat to fit in the booth after struggling a little bit and we had selected our food, and we were ready to order, the hostess came back and said that this one random guy was actually in front of us and she showed us the list. This list showed his name squeezed in between our name and the family that was in front of us in line. We were not sure where he came from or what exactly was going on. They made us get up with our 3 month old baby. We didn't want any trouble so we decided to leave and go somewhere else. We used to enjoy coming here frequently, but after that episode, I don't think we will be coming back. I just cannot believe they sat us and then had us get up and vacate our table. I have never heard of a restaurant doing that, especially like this. I think it worked out for the better because we went to the Islands Restaurant down the street in the Del Monte shopping center and we had a great experience there, the food is definitely better, they sat us right away, and it has a much nicer atmosphere. read more

Chopstix offers great food, good service, and an affordable price. On a recent trip to Monterey we ate there twice.

Food is mixed, depending on what you get. Spring rolls and fried egg rolls are good, but once you start with dry noodle bowls the meat is full of gristle and fat. No meat prep and it shows. Not much to say about service or ambiance but the food is a fairly large letdown read more

Do yourself a favor and skip the 5 dollar foot long at that national chain and get yourself one of Chopstix banh mi sandwiches. For roughly the same price you get a crusty bread filled with protein, cilantro, carrots, cucumber and jalapeño. The spicy/sweet crunch is perfection! I've also tried their dry noodle bowls and enjoy the BBQ pork and shrimp bowl the best. At around 6 bucks, there is no better deal in town. This place was mediocre. The photos on yelp looked very promising but in really life, the flavor just wasn't there. We tried this place twice just to make sure they weren't having an off day. The first day we ordered pho and their papaya salad. The papaya salad was delicious!! Very unique and had different flavors that meshed well together like the daikon and the papaya. I really enjoyed the papaya! Now, the pho was subpar. I've had better pho in my hometown which is in the Central Valley. Their pho broth was very bland...no flavor at all. The meat portion was pretty good. But overall, we did not like the pho. Personally, the pho broth determines the overall quality of a pho dish and this place did not deliver. They also did not offer all the condiments that most pho places offer such as chili oil, shrimp paste, or nuts. We also ordered their coconut boba and Vietnamese coffee. I would say these are the stars of the shows! If you're craving boba, this is a great place to get them! Very creamy and flavorful. The coconut boba tasted like coconut wafers which I really liked! On to the second day, we ordered two rice dishes: 1) rice with Vietnamese pork 2) rice with lemongrass chicken And 2 Vietnamese sandwiches: 1) lemongrass chicken 2) bbq pork Once again, pretty disappointed. The rice dishes were once again bland. I will say that the lemongrass chicken does taste like the name of the dish. But that was the only flavor I tasted...lemon grass. The Vietnamese pork didn't have a flavor to it at all and it was a bit oily. The Vietnamese sandwiches was packed with meat but hardly any veggies. Usually you get a decent amount of jalapeños, cilantro, daikon, and cucumber. This place barely had any. The most disappointing of all was that there was no pate in the sandwich! A traditional, authentic Vietnamese sandwich has pate! Overall, the food was not flavorful and I wouldn't recommend this place or come back. Service was pretty good. But the food ultimately dictates my return and sadly this place is not for food lovers like me. read more

i've gotten food poisoning there twice. When they first opened, the vegetarian spring rolls were Sufficiently large for the price. Chopstix - Spring Rolls - Vietnamese Near Me - Monterey, California

I've gone here for years and years. It is always the first place I go when I come back to Monterey. I even reserved the hotel next to the restaurant so I could walk right in to this place after 12 hours of driving. The owner is fantastic, always personable, and just the best. The staff are thoughtful and go the extra mile to communicate any issues or clarifications needed for your order. Chopstix - 19. Sweet and Sour Chicken - Vietnamese Near Me - Monterey, California

Food is good any ready fast! We eat here when in the area and it's on par with our local go to in the east bay.

We were looking for someplace healthy to eat at, I remembered in Salinas there Chopstix place did exist. It was in price range of my father who didn't feel guilty there after. In Monterey I had tasted Chopstix first, this would be first Chopstix experience for my father. Sorry we didn't take any photos. We were in group of five, so we had ordered, Udon soup(me) Plum slush, Pho 1.a, Green Papaya Salad(4 people eaten it), Fried Tofu, Hot Green Tea(person 1) , (Person 2) BBQ chicken Sandwich, Potstickers, Mocha blast; (person 3)Sweet sour chicken + House Fried Rice, Ice tea; (person 4) Number 10 from Dry noodle bowls and she asked for green tea but hot water device wasn't making it possible so she asked for hot water instead. Person 4 carries tea bags everywhere she goes. Regrets: Peanuts (Peanut allergy)(me) three people in family have healthy food is rare. I believe they were Friendly and attentive to our needs. We were last people in the restaurant I think? I rate food, service and perception overall B Others: B, B-, Not sure about the others. Feeling is food should improve. Pork quality is all I am going be saying. Service is very good. read more

You only fail when you stop trying to find a good food. I was in the mood for a Vietnamese cuisine in the Monterey area and with Siri's help, she directed me to Chopstix. Chopstix is an asian fusion Vietnamese restaurant that offer a wide variety of Pho, noodle soups, rice bowls and boba drinks. Bingo! It's located in the corner of Munrasa and Robles aves by the 1 PCH fwy in Monterey. We arrived today to grab a late lunch and one of the staff gave a perfunctory greeting. We sat the middle of the restaurant near the 50 inch tele. Indoor dine in was spacious, neat and odor free. We perused their menu and was flabbergasted by their wide spread food/boba list. We ordered pho's, shrimp rolls and boba teas. I asked for spoon and fork since Im not skilled enough to use chopstick. Lol. Hehehe. Their food were great and very flavorful. Similarly, the boba teas and slush and boba pearl were taste good. I enjoyed it! Service was on point. Serving was slightly above average. Prices were reasonable. Rear parking lot was available. Overall, we had a good food experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more
