Came here after visiting Monterey Bay aquarium. Weather was on the cooler side so a bowl of soup would be perfect so we stopped by this place for some Pho. Once we arrived, the place was packed and they were going to be closing in another hour. It's a small place and looks like it can be pretty busy at times, at least this time when we went. Pho was pretty cheap at 12.99 compare to the ones in my city. Pho is decent. Wish the broth was more flavorful. Flavorful as in having a richer fat content. They did give me a good protein portion of meat although the menu said I was suppose to get two shrimp, which I only received one. Once we got seated, we scanned the QR code on the table for the menu and was already ready to order. Inform the staff they we were ready to order and the staff said she'll be getting someone to take our order. The staff came out to take our order but went to the wrong table to take another tables order when they arrive long after we did. That was an unpleasant experience. We also ordered the fried calamari and it came out fresh. My only complaint is that it was quite oily and the batter wasn't crispy enough to give you that crunch when taking a bite like I I would like it to read more

Food flavor is okay, kind of bland. Not sure why it's call 5 spice chicken when I taste no spice. Shrimp egg rolls are perfect! Crispy and hot. fried rice tastes okay not too flavor. Pho broth is bland. Peach green tea is flavorful but the coconut juice has a chlorine water taste with it. Service is quick. I prefer not to use their wooden chopstick because I am not sure if it is sterilize properly since they brought me a fork that still have a piece of dry lettuce it. Located in between a row of inns and within a short walking distance, so it is very convenient if you do not want to go anywhere far. They also have a private parking lot in case you decide to drive there. It is a nice restaurant. Service was welcoming and polite. Tables are clean but a little small. There wasn't too much space so we asked the waitress to take empty plates to make room. We ordered a pho tai no vien (beef and meatballs noodle soup), pho ga (chicken noodle soup), udon soup, and a sweet and sour pork rice platter. All were flavorful and light. We also tried the fried banana (good dessert to end the meal). We thought it was an egg roll at first, but once we bit into it, it was clear it was fried banana. This restaurant also has an extensive boba menu, and it's the closest one near us, so obviously I had to get some. The waiter seated and greeted us super quickly. Our booth was super clean and it looks like they got new utensils which made everything is super easy to grab at our table. I got the squid soup and it was delicious and hot as always looks like they changed up their menus And did not disappoint. A nice Asian fusion restaurant (think Vietnamese pho + Taiwanese bubble tea) that's big on take-out and understaffed for dine in. Nice patio out back, but no service. We came here multiple times on different days of the week for both pick up and dine in. Alright food. Long long wait for pick up. I'd try their fried noodles and other non soup based dishes but skip their pho (not authentic; they even forgot to give me the toppings such as bean sprouts!). See my photos. Fried noodle looks better than the sad pho. The real problem is with dine in. No service. I had to go get utensils, napkins, etc myself, on multiple occasions. They serve half of the stuff (bringing one dish but forgetting the side dishes). They do not come check in on you at all, and you have to go to the counter to pay. No tip, obviously, since it's so much self service. This honestly could have been a great place if better managed. read more

My ONE star goes to the temperature. My food came out piping hot. What didn't go well was service, my husband and I were waiting to order til I raised my hand and waved. The TAI (steak) is so tough that it was unchewable. I expressed this to the workers that both my husband pho tai is very tough to chew as well as the steak in my order. I also had chicken breast pieces in my soup that was also touch to chew. All he had to say was I'm sorry. I would have gladly paid for the noodles but the tai was not good at all. Food: is what brought the rating down. I had the shaken beef with fried rice. The beef was ok and the fried rice was very very dry. I've never had bad pho until today. Worst pho I've ever had! The noodles were overcooked, and the brisket was dry and chewy. Their boba was very mid, but I don't think anyone should expect good boba from a restaurant. Very disappointed. Generous portions. If you eat a lot, go there. For a few extra, you'll be extra stuffed. If you're a light eater go there-they have 1/2 portions. Delicious. There are 4 locations in our area. This one has more packed tables although there's an outdoor patio-not the warmest location. The one at the mouth of the (Carmel) valley has a great backyard area that's the warmest and roomiest. The one in Seaside is more of a large family style restaurant. There's another one but I can't remember. All of them are perfect. Great food, service. If you're looking for Vietnamese food and you're from OC, this place might not hit the spot. I came here for dinner and was not satisfied. We left feeling hungry still. We ordered a large Bun Bo Hue and the Grilled Five-spiced Chicken. We weren't sure what was large about the Bun Bo Hue. The bowl was big, but there were very little noodles. The Bun Bo hue here doesn't contain the thick udon noodles that is usually in Bun Bo Hue, instead, they use vermicelli noodles that you would eat in pho. It also did not have huyet (pork's blood). The meat was also cut very thin. The Grilled Five-spiced Chicken was okay, it didn't satisfy me. They also do not have sate, so you cannot make the Bun Bo Hue spicier. Pleasantly surprised that Monterey has good Vietnamese food. Like. Really surprised that bun Bo was decently flavored. However don't expect the fixings your normal bun Bo hue would have like the veggies and the fish paste. The pho was alright, better than a lot of places outside of major Asian hubs. What notched it down two stars was the service and the boba drinks which were either super sweet or had a bad texture. Service was inconsistent, but I felt the staff was more distracted with their own stuff than look out for customers raising our hand to ask for service. First off, didn't get a picture of the vegetarian spring rolls - we ate them too fast! They were absolutely delicious as was the peanut sauce. The crispy fried tofu was just ok, it needed salt or some other flavor. Without the sauce it was bland. I ordered the vegetarian wonton soup that unfortunately arrived to the table without wontons? When I told the server about this, he went back and asked the kitchen, who verified "they were out of wontons." I am unsure why this wasn't brought to my attention before the soup was made - I would've definitely ordered something else. Despite this, the broth was great and the soup was generally good. The "yellow curry" was more of a yellow curried tofu with a side of fried rice. It was good, but not what we were expecting when we ordered a curry. He would've ordered something else as well. Lastly, they have cute outdoor seating that is just not an option. It looks like they stopped using it post Covid but I wish we could have sat out there considering what a nice day it was! Nice and pocket- friendly place to eat in Monterey. Outdoor dining seating was available. I noticed they have a lot of Take Out orders too. I ordered the Veggie Wonton Ramen Soup. The broth was very tasty as well as the wonton. I wasn't a fan of the noodles though. My hubby liked The five spiced chicken with Rice noodles. He said the chicken was tender and juicy. The fried Tofu was our favorite. It wasn't oily at all. The House Milk tea was ok. For me, It needed more of that milk tea flavor.
