This is a hidden little gem in the back of a long strip mall and definitely a place you should add to your try list. It's not fancy to look at, but I always feel comfortable coming in here, and they can easily accommodate large parties. As usual, they brought a refreshing lettuce salad. Once I finished that off I ordered the Mantu appetizer. Mantu is stuffed with a wonderful ground beef filling, a little pocket of deliciousness, a tiny spicy heat to it, and a moist sauce that rounds out the flavor, and is finished with a generous sprinkle of sumac. It's a delicious light dumpling!! My favorite dish that I keep ordering over and over is the Showra. This is a super flavorful broth in which a lamb shank sits along with a potato. It sounds so simple, and it is, but I think it's absolutely wonderful. I've never seen a naan prepared the way they do their version. Pull off pieces and dip that into the broth so that it gets all soggy and delicious :-). They serve it with a small side of onion and lemon, and I squeeze the lemon juice into it and dump the onion into the hot broth. I like to finish the meal with the light Firni milk pudding sprinkled with chopped pistachios. While eating here, you could run next-door to the market if you need some Halal meat. I think the above is my favorite meal here.

The service was quick, and you could tell that the food was fresh off the grill! It was quiet the night we went there - less than half of the tables were being used, but it may have been later than their normal dinner crowd would be there. Next time I'll have to try their naan and tandoori chicken...

I was in line to order to-go but the lady in front of me had the hardest time paying for her order. After several unsuccessful attempts, another lady came by to take my order so that she could put my order to the kitchen first while I waited to pay. I found that to be extremely considerate of the worker to think to do that. Food came out in about 15 minutes. I was so hungry I ended up deciding to eat in my car. A little disappointed that they didn't include any utensils (nor did they ask if needed any), but thankfully I had some extras in my car. I ordered a chicken kebab and they were nice enough to sub my rice for a salad without extra charge. Also ordered the borani bademjan because I'm a fan of all things eggplant. Everything was delicious. The chicken kebab was juicy, moist, and nicely seasoned. However, my favorite item was hands down the borani bademjan. It had large pieces of smoky grilled eggplants and I love the spiced tomato flavors. Yum! Highly recommend for all eggplant fanatics. The borani came with a piece of nan that was good as well. Overall a great find and will be back to try other items.

From generous portions to amazing naan bread I love love coming here. Their cherry rice is just top tier here and it goes so well. I had never had cherry rice before coming here and I'm hooked!. From the pictures you can see its quite a generous portions of rice so you'll be pretty full by the end of it. Kabobs beef/chicken, always extremely fresh, juicy, and rich in flavor. Hummus with the complimentary naan goes so well together I've came back year after years and am happy to report that their quality has remained the same. I always recommend Avesta when it comes to Persian food!

It's the kind of spot that works just as well for a casual dinner as it does for a relaxed night out with friends or family. We started off with the lentil soup, which was comforting and flavorful--light yet satisfying, with a nice balance of spices. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and elevated even more by the complimentary fresh bread, which came out warm and perfectly baked--easily one of the highlights of the meal. For mains, the Koobideh Combination stole the show. The kababs were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly, with that classic smoky flavor that makes Persian kabobs so good. Definitely the standout dish and a must-order. The Salmon & Chicken combo was equally impressive--both proteins were tender, nicely grilled, and paired beautifully with the saffron rice and grilled vegetables, giving you a great mix of flavors and textures. We also tried the Soujuk & Cheese Lahmajun, which added a nice twist to the meal. It had a crispy base with rich, savory toppings, and the cheese brought everything together really well--great for sharing. Avesta is a solid go-to for Persian cuisine in Houston. Between the quality of the kababs, fresh bread, and overall flavor, everything hit the mark. Pair that with the great atmosphere and welcoming staff, and it's definitely a place worth coming back to

Also it is halal which is a huge plus in my book. I could have used just a tad more spice to my meat but the green sauce made up for it. My mango smoothie was delicious as well. I'm unsure if it had any dairy in it. They also had complimentary dessert which was a nice touch. I was pressed for time so didn't try it but it looked like some sort of custard. Without much of expectation, I walked in bravely thinking I might be rejected because I'm not from this culture. I'm a food adventurer and I like to try dishes not familiar to me. As long as Google is available, I could always search on unknown names. I pulled out my Yelp app and did a quick research on what people would recommend. I saw an interesting dish called Chapli Kabab with Bukhari Pulao for $13.99. The meat was very well seasoned and it had lots of crushed peppers. I had to slow down to spit out pepper seeds. The rice was very flavorful. The meal came with a small plate of fresh hummus. I know I should have naan to go with it but I was overloaded with carbs from the rice. I was reading about the difference of Pulao and Biryani. "Pulao is made by sautéing the ingredients (rice and meat or vegetables) together, then adding pre-determined quantity of water." And, "Biryani is where the rice and meat or vegetable is first partially cooked separately then layered and cooked on slow flame with other ingredients." I'm not an expert on this region's dishes. That's why I am here at the restaurant. Since I didn't have a strong stomach for spicy stew like karahi, I skipped it this time. I would also try Palak gosht, a hearty mutton curry.
