They are cooking delicious food. I have never been to any African restaurant where the food was cooked quickly. The peanut stew and fufu was plentiful and made me smile. My sons and mother also enjoyed the entrées they selected. I forgot what they ate. My sons have been here with their father once and were excited to return. The owner and staff were tremendously kind and greeted us with warm smiles. I must add, it is a bit pricey. I don't care though because we are supporting a Black-owned and operated business that provides good service and products. That's what's important. I am so glad this restaurant is in Southeast Raleigh.

I ordered takeout from Elle Et Moi, which was chicken egusi, yam fufu, and jollof rice. It came as a combo. The egusi was delicious, absolute perfection. Slighly spicy and very generous with the chicken. I didn't know what to expect it to taste like, but it far exceeded my expections. The portion was generous. The jollof rice was very tasty. A bit of a kick and seasoned very well. I really enjoyed it. The only thing I didn't like was the fufu. I wanted to like it, but the texture was off. It didn't pinch off and roll around in my fingers like I've seen, where I make the little indentation to scoop up the soup. It was kind of dry and crumbly. Maybe it was warmed for too long and overcooked or something. I'll try again next time, and maybe try the plaintain version next. I'll definitely be back and look forward to trying other dishes!

Before I continue, this place is nice and has a LOT of potential. There's a really good chance I would come back here. It is tapas (table plate-sharing based), and the food comes out as it is cooked, not in appetizer-then-entree order. With that being said... Our experience: Saturday evening, 6:30pm reservations Our order: Banana Mojito, a spritzer of some kind, the Braised Goat, Dovi Cauliflower, Magwinyas & Ice Cream. The food: The goat came out first, with jollof rice and a few fried plantains on the side. The goat sauce was a tad bit spicy, and the goat meat was good, but you had to work it like neckbones (maybe I'm unfamiliar with navigating goat meat): It was tasty. The plantains were the best I have EVER had, even from the Caribbean. The cauliflower came out next, sitting in a coconut-peanut sauce. It was a rather large head and it was good. If you do not like peanut sauce, I would say not to get it. Its really what gave the grilled cauliflower any flavor. Because I like bread, I opted to get the magwinyas (the waitress said that we'd get two, gesturing they'd be about the size of an airpod case), but when they arrived, they were about the size of a gobstopper. THEY ARE NOT LIKE ANY PHOTOS ONLINE. The best part is that they were warm and the homemade ice cream was Oreo lemon - we noticed it was the vanilla Oreo, not the chocolate. The ice cream was rich, and although it was pretty good, we couldn't finish it. For the price, the serving sizes were rather small, which doesn't explain why we were full at the end. The pros: nice ambiance, although the place is VERY intimate: tables are kinda small, and somewhat close together. The food came out surprisingly fast (not just ours, but for the parties seated around us as well). I understand the bathroom is large and VERY well decorated and comfortable. It is for ONE PERSON at a time though. The cons: The service was definitely beneath the establishment. While the waitress knew the menu, her presentation was lacking (dirty and soiled apron - from way before that day), and she was lackluster in her service. The water is pre-poured into carafes, and was almost warm. We asked for ice and never got it. The waitress did not identify the items on the menu that were not available, we were only told after we expressed interest. MAYBE ONCE did she come to check on us, even though they only had 4-5 tables seated. AND, when she wasn't waiting tables, she could be seen eating directly in the window the kitchen door. Tips: Park in the South Lot, its literally steps away. If you go here on a Durham Bulls game day, let the parking attendants know you're parking for dining and they will allow you to park for free. You can also park for free in the North Lot: its an easy 5 min walk through the Tobacco Campus. When I walk into a restaurant, the ambiance and the menu (prices) set my expectations. While I understand everything has gotten more expensive lately, I feel like this place is a little overrated and overpriced. IF and when I do return, I'll try the chicken wings and sausage rolls.

And when I last lived in Durham 30+ years ago, having Ethiopian on Main Street Durham was unimaginable. But Durham on so many levels is a completely different universe. Goorsha is a very pleasant small dining room off a welcoming bar area when you come in. It was overcast and cold this early March day but the outside dining must be lovely later in the spring. We had a very helpful waitress answer a few questions and the food came quickly. The Sambusa appetizer should have perhaps taken a bit longer. The edges were crisp and tasty as was the Deko sauce it came with. But the center was still a bit cold so a bit more time was needed. I wanted beef tibs and went with the Zilzil tibs knowing there would be less sauce and danger of staining my work clothes. They were plentiful, well-cooked if not powerfully seasoned. They were quick to bring ample powered pepper so I could give it some kick dipping each injera enveloped bite for some added heat. The winner was my vegetarian dining companion who went with the very flexible pick three from many vegetarian options. They were a distinct yet complimentary troika of richly favored dishes. At least for lunch, Goorsha goes with individual plates rather than the traditional round platter family style so familiar in Ethiopian cuisine. It definitely worked for us given one of us was a vegetarian and the other all tibs all day. Definitely very glad to see it just across the street from Brightleaf Square and one of the earliest areas converted from tobacco warehouses to fashionable eateries. Glad it is part of the Durham eating scene.

Appreciate the ample vegan options, including Red Lentils with Berbere, Metin Shiro and Fosolia. Also loved the Sambusa with Deko (jalapeño relish) and Kasheka. Casual and located right across from Brightleaf, Goorsha did not disappoint.

I had never tried Senegalese food before, but I saw lots of options that looked great on the menu. I ended up choosing the Chicken Yassa, which is marinated, roasted chicken legs over a bed of rice, served with plantains and mixed vegetables. The chicken was so super tender and flavorful, and went really great with the vegetables, which had just a little spice. They also have some really tasty juice and drink options. I really liked the juice I tried, made from the baobab tree. It was creamy and had a great sweet flavor. The owner was very nice and helpful as I decided what to get. Definitely check this place out (and also the other vendors in Blue Dogwood). This is a really great way to get some delicious global cuisine while supporting local restaurants close to Franklin St. (as a side note, it has it's own parking lot too, so you don't have to pay or search for parking along Franklin St. Always a good thing! They also have a really nice patio area).

I'm use to African food having spice, kick and full of flavor. The jallof rice was bland dry and hard. There was no flavor whatsoever almost as if someone just spritz color on top of some day old left out to dry rice. The chicken skin was nice and flavorful but the chicken underneath bland. Found myself rubbing the meet on the skin to try and get some flavor to no avail. My wife had the tofu. She didn't even bother to bring it back home and ate half a piece of one. There's no hot sauce. No seasoning on the tables. The collard greens are on. We got a sample but because the restaurant had no hot sauce we opted out of them but that was a mistake because the cabbage was hard and bland as well. The food seems to be catered for people with bland pallets. I wasn't impressed. The "bill" came which is just the waiter with a screen never showed what I purchased or a breakdown so I have no idea why I paid $60 for this with a discount. The gratuity is automatically included and I'm fine with that but the blurb on the menu makes it seem like my obligation to pay it to ensure they have a living wage. Where is the owners responsibility to ensure they have a living wage? My wife waited 25 min for her Pepsi to come and had to ask for it. I won't return.
