Peanut Butter Hot Choc

New kids on the block, the Chocolateria crew, were still making the ropes - not even ready to learn them yet - when my mate and I called in for a post-burger sweet treat. It was a little unclear whether they were counter or table service (turns out counter for takeaway only) and staff were running around a little aimlessly. But eventually we got settled and given a set of menus. We ordered, only to be asked again by a different waitress if we wanted to place our order. Our food (churros with chocolate dipping sauce) and drinks (Spanish hot chocolate, one with mint, one with peanut butter) arrived in a timely fashion. All were delicious, but the drinks in particular were exceptionally rich and could have been half the size. Upon leaving we were told that the payment system had completely melted down and the staff relied on us to tell them our order and complete payment. Despite the issues with our short visit we both agreed we'd be back: chalk these up to teething issues and breathe in the chocolately goodness. The premise of this place is too good to pass up and definitely deserves a second try.

Churros for two

Every time I go to South Bank, San Churro is one of my favorite dessert option. I like this more than max benner because 1. No long queue 2. More option for the hot chocolate and other ice cream option 3. Table service and excellent service 4. Accept epftos an card with no minimum amount 5. Their Churros taste much better than max benner waffles (my opinion) 6. I'm a big fan of ice chocolate. It has a very nice one, generous amount of the ice cream inside the hot chocolate. Not fake one. Either with friends or my boyfriend, we always keep coming back to this churros place :) Check out the photos of churros and ice chocolate which I've posted!

Churros for Two

We went on a Tuesday night and the place was packed even then! But it didn't take long to get a seat. Ordering was quite efficient, once I'd gotten one of the waiters attention. The food came out reasonably fast, however the coffees were delayed a lot. It worked out ok, cause we needed the coffees at the end anyway. No need to comment on the food - loved it. Pretty great stuff and the Spanish sauce was amazing too... Definitely recommend this place.

Churros + Chocolate?!?! I think I found my dessert heaven. If anyone knew me, I have a massive sweet tooth, no matter what, I always have room for dessert. I have been here 2 times and have tried two different things: Churros for 2 with dark chocolate and caramel dips along with a scoop of spicy chocolate ice cream & Banana chocolate churro sundae. Be prepared to spend a little more than you normally would for a dessert, so I highly recommend splitting with someone. Both items were delicious especially the caramel dip that comes with the churros. It's not any ordinary caramel that I have had before, but there's definitely something a little extra. The spicy chocolate ice cream sounds odd, but it's a MUST! The moment you spoon it into your mouth, the rich chocolate takes over and next thing you know, there's a spicy kick at the end.

The second destination of my self proclaimed chocolate tour, Chocolateria San Churro is a lovely little shop on Grey Street, quite close in fact, to Max Brenner. However, I found this place to be better than Max Brenner, both in terms of location (it's closer to Cineplex) and options (churros). Alongside the aforementioned churros that they are named after, they have a smorgasbord of chocolatey goodness waiting for you. Great to stop by for a nice warm cuppa or a little something to munch on the way to your next destination or what have you. It also has outdoor seating, which I always prefer in any eating joint. The place is always lively and aromatic, mouth-wateringly so, in fact. It's also great for bringing your kids and friends, so that you all can have a sick time.

Fondue for two. Extremely yummy

What can I say except chocolate lovers heaven. The fondue for two was very good with lots of variety (pretzels, strawberry, banana, brownies, churros, marshmallow and the nicest nougat with your choice of white, milk or dark choc dipping sauce. The iced chocolate wasn't too sweet either

Fondue for two; delicious!

Came here quite early and it was very quiet and cosy. Ordered chocolate milkshakes and macaroons, nougat, churros, fruit and chocolate fondue platter for two. Very rich and tasty; the milkshakes were too rich for me but enjoyable nonetheless. The atmosphere is comfortable with a lot of seating and power points available to use. Would recommend for a sweet breakfast or dessert.

Sticky date pudding with a hence of ginger, the taste is like a peak of spicy breeze with a smoothing taste of sweet.

The iced mocha was just what I needed. After being at the pool all day an iced mocha was just what I needed to refresh and revive me.

They were super friendly and let you enjoy the space and your company. They serve you water as soon as you are seated and then ask you what you'd like. I had the Lucy while my friend had the Coffee Ale. The sizes come in Pony, Mare, or Stallion! My friend loved the coffee ale. I'm not the biggest beer fan but the Lucy was light. We started to chit-chat with the bartenders and they showed us this chili vodka! He had me at "Chili..." My friend had the Bloody Mary and she kept raving how it was tomato soup for adults. She loved it! The bartender was great and nervous about creating a drink for me. We went with a pineapple chili vodka with a touch of mint. Yum! It needs some fine tuning but the foundation is set. We were having a great time and as if beer to vodka wasn't enough, we moved right along to tequila! Yes, some quality tequila and verdita. I'm a huge fan and they explained to us how quality tequila is for sipping. We didn't want to leave but the time had come. Thankfully, I know I'll be coming back very soon. Thanks for a great Introduction.

Instead, I saw the sign for Bean, and having passed it several times, I thought, hey, why not walk through this shady looking garage and dumpster (looked like one) and see what's up? I walked up to a chalked door and a short flight of stairs down into a kitschy, cute, nicely air conditioned cafe, and was greeted by a really eccentric but friendly barista. I was just looking for a cuppa to-go, but was rather tempted to plant myself and look around. The cafe isn't big, but there is a good amount of table space, either to study at or to play the many board games that this place houses! I was quite pleased at their game selection of Cluedo, Scrabble, Jenga, and more! This is also one of the few cafes in Brisbane that provide free wi-fi. So much win! As for the coffee, I've only had their skinny latte, which I do enjoy. For Brisbane, it is definitely good - a bit bold, but not overly dark, like I find the places around here. The coffee has a bit of a fruity or nutty aftertaste - I can't quite tell (must have it again!), but I would definitely have it again. I wasn't sure if they had food to offer, as I only saw some cupcakes on display, but it looked like they might serve sandwiches... Alleyway cafes seem to be very characteristic of Brisbane's hip cafes, and although my friends know me to always find these places with shady entrances, quite a few of them turn out to be good, if not intriguing! All in all, this is one of my favorite places so far - the ambience, board games, free wi-fi, and the barista!

Mind you, the leather couch was low, soft and comfy. The decor features framed vinyl, artwork and various skate decks from different hardcore, metal and punk bands i.e. Amity, This is Hell, etc. I feel like this place should feature gig posters promoting the hardcore scene. I'm sure there'll be more over time. There's a few alternative music magazines on a table for reading. As a fan of hardcore music, I like this place a lot down to the graffitied walls and pin-up art. The music is loud and heavy and I like it. I can imagine a few people would complain. Not the place to come for a meaningful conversation or to write your novel. No food yet, but there's plans to get a small range of muffins to munch on along with your coffee. Coffee is currently $4 for a large. We visited around 10.30pm at night. It's popular among the police and ambos at this time of the night. I imagine during the day it's more popular for those "in the scene". Not the best coffee in the world, but nicer than any other options at that time of the night. Plus, it's a good place to wake up if you're wanting to pull an all-nighter!

Death Before Decaf is the latest addition, located on Brunswick Street New Farm, open for about 1 week. The name describes how I feel and react when I hear people order "Decaf". Seriously? It's like ordering chocolate, and asking don't add the chocolate. Death Before Decaf is the kind of place Brisbane needs, because its open 24/7, and we don't too have many places, if any, open for the long haul to service the needs of an ever demanding caffeine addicted public. The décor is edgy, with a twist of tattoo, punk, metal, street, and some cool graffiti-esque artwork on the wall. The vinyl, posters of hardcore metal, skateboards adorning the wall, all add to their rockstar feel. The comfortable leather couch and deer head on the wall seems out of place and more at home at a venue like Alfred & Constance, but I like the over-all aesthetics of the place. They serve Bellissimo Coffee (The Ultimo), which I actually drink at home too, so I do like the coffee. Due to the limited seating available, this place works well for take-away coffees, and at $3.50 for a small sized cup, is well worth it. Hardcore heavy-metal music isn't my thing, but I'm still a fan of Death Before Decaf. Good news is that Snacks will make their way to the Death Before Decaf counter in the coming months, so looking forward to that!
