A souvlaki is a wrap made of pita bread, with your choice of meat (lamb/chicken), mustard mayo, parsley, and chips! It's a hearty meal in your hand! The tang of that mustard is just perfect with the rich, savory meat. You can also purchase a full roasted lamb shoulder to take home which is great for 2 people. Just call ahead first so they can make sure they have enough as there is a limited number per day. Every Tuesday night (currently), they have a special for a $10 souvlaki with a $5 beer. You get in the cab after a night out and instead of giving your college address, you say in a drunken slur, "Take me to Mr Deno's at the Ville." And it's all downhill from there. But oh how satisfying those kebabs are when all you've got in your tum is a big churning mess of alcohol. To sink your teeth into a Mr Deno's before stumbling home to college and falling in bed would have to be one of the most satisfying experiences, not be missed out on by any St Lucian collegiate. When returning to St Lucia (the student suburb) after a late night out there is only one place to go to soak up the alcohol and that is Mr Deno's. Many a student has reached that point in the night where there is nothing better than a greasy kebab. In fact, all I remember from my student nights here is the wonderful full feeling of this fine product as it hit my goon filled stomach and gave me the strength to walk the hundred metres home and into my bed. The kebabs really are amazing, such that there is even a facebook page dedicated to them (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mr-Denos-Kebab-Shop/77734942575?sk=info) where you are encouraged to post photos of yourself devouring Mr Deno's kebabs and just be a part of the general awesomeness that is this Kebab shop. Mr Deno's Kebab and Pizza's hours change depending on the student calendar (they close earlier when it is not semester). Now I recommend not even looking at Mr Deno's during daylight hours. The "best kebab of your life" during the night quite easily turns into a very average kebab during the day. Keep Mr Deno's for those late nights and you will stay a fan!

Today I opted for the Bacon and Eggs on Sourdough which sounded pretty simple but I was in the mood for bacon! Once my meal arrived it wasn't the prettiest picture but boy did it taste good. Let me break it down for you: - the bacon was thick (as described on the menu) and was amazing, who knew making bacon thicker made it more delicious!? - the eggs were poached to perfection. All oozy and good! - the sourdough was magical and appeared to be fried/saturated in butter which is a very good thing! - the salad was basic leafy greens but cut through the greasiness and the balsamic was a nice treat (I haven't had balsamic in a while) - the relish was a nice accompaniment, adding a sweet/spicy component to the meal. Overall it was delicious and filling! The coffee here was pretty delicious. I left here on a caffeine high after consuming a flat white and a long black. The bean is from Supreme which is fast becoming my fave coffee. The service was decent but nothing to rave about. As mentioned before majority of seating is outdoors so not so good is raining.

The drinks selection is pretty good, featuring a good variety of craft beers (some on tap) and some rather delicious cocktails. Prices all quite reasonable. Food selection is decent for a bar too, with a page of simple but delicious sounding food for a very very reasonable $10 each (other than the chips and aioli which is cheaper). The staff were very friendly, and on the night we were entertained by a lovely lady and her guitar. Good music, neither too loud nor too soft. We will definitely be back.

It's an eclectic menu and if you prefer something on the lighter side there is a bakery onsite as well. I was told the chef likes to play around when I asked about a particular biscuit/cookie. Think red velvet biscuit with marshmallow inside. The staff are very friendly and helpful giving recommendations with regard to what might satisfy your craving when you've narrowed your decision down to two. For my part there were a lot of meals with eggs which I'm very fussy about so typically just don't choose it (makes sense ). But there were a couple I just really want to try next time and was told some accommodation could be made. Having said that the ingredients in each meal are so well thought out I would really not want to change things up. Unless it was to maybe ask for the egg on the side. Will I be back. It's the newest member of the Venzin Group family who've delivered Brisbane the likes of Green Papaya and Pawpaw Cafe. In fact, interior wise, you'll feel right at home and wonder if you're in a Pawpaw transplant. You're not although there's touches that keep it familiar. One such touch is executive chef Rory Doyle who's graces in the menu are clear. There's hearty and non-traditional breakfast menu items that all let you select breakfast and a coffee for under $20. Then there's familiar lunch items like the Picnic Burger (this had sold out by the time I headed back for lunch at 12:20pm) and gnocchi. I had the pumpkin gnocchi which was light and filling. It's good quality and again under $20 with a drink. I was pumped for time when I stopped in on my way to meetings this morning so opted for the fruit toast and a coffee. The fruit toast is the lightest I've ever tasted. It really is a fruit brioche. Paired with a light layer of Pepe Saya butter - delicious! Coffee is, as with Pawpaw, Campos but the team are consistently good baristas so the quality remains high. Like Pawpaw there was a steady flow of people and already they're experiencing weekend lines as people trek to taste the new venture. Service is fast, but done well. Granted, I visited on a Thursday but still both visits had at least several other diners in at the same time. For all the similarities, this isn't Pawpaw. It is its own cafe in its own right. Today was the first of many visits I think, and I'm looking forward to see how Picnic grows into it's name and space.
