We ordered our office Friday lunch online on Thursday afternoon for delivery. The food arrived at 11:30am, and every sandwich (plus 2 lettuce wraps) was made perfectly, was super fresh and overflowing with fillings. The Office also agreed they'll be a regular Friday lunch supplier. I love the idea of lettuce wraps in place of bread for a healthier and less bulky option for lunch. 10/10. Will Dannyboys again.

I always get excited when I see that a lunch spot makes everything they sell fresh and in-store. And this is what they do at Dannyboys - they make their own subs, soups and wraps daily. They put a huge emphasis on the fact that there are no sugars or preservatives added - just five simple ingredients; flour, water, yeast, salt and extra virgin olive oil. I think what probably stood out the most for me was not actually the food itself - but the staff who are selling it. They are outgoing and passionate about what they're selling. I was advised to try one of the four soups they had made that day (pumpkin & garlic, minestrone, broccoli & cheddar and tomato) and in combination with a sub, it came to a grand total of $9.95. Fantastic price for such healthy, fresh food. The menu is quite huge, so take your time deciding. I settled on a Dannyboy Jnr which was a small (it's huge) sub filled with avocado, tomato, lettuce, Swiss cheese and mayonnaise. The bread was delicious, but they were far too generous with the fillings, as they ended up spilling out of the roll after the first bite. The tomato soup on the other hand was perfect - complete with wonderful chunks of croutons. You can opt for take-away, take a seat at a stool opposite the kitchen or head upstairs to a larger dining space. While you're up there, grab some chalk and draw on the floor to ceiling blackboard if you get a chance between mouthfuls of the tasty subs.

I haven't had the pleasure of ordering a sandwich at Dannyboys but oh the cupcakes! Perfect for a treat or a workplace celebration, they get my vote for the best cupcakes in Brisbane. The cake is moist and flavoursome (unlike most cupcakes which taste vaguely like cardboard), and every flavour has a surprise, like the Oreo flavour which has an entire Oreo in the base or the white chocolate cheesecake which has a gooey centre. Be sure to call early and get them to set some aside if you want a big batch, they don't last long!

Danny Boy's is a breath of fresh air, I really don't feel like Brisbane does sandwiches well.

The delightful fit-out is inspired by love for everything retro and under the glass of your table you could find anything from smurfs to cassette tapes. My arancini with salad was delicious and more flavoursome than most arancini I've tried, with the outside coated in delicious pepitas and the salad fresh and filling. Very cute, very satisfying - go in and try something!

If you sit outside you'll only get a view of the surgery waiting room or Spoon cafe; but Decked compensates for this by making its interior very attractive. The tables (two of which are outside) are a wonder: built into the tables, beneath the glass top, are bundles of miniature toys. For example, one table top offered a few of a mosh pit of toy cars. Another contained those army-men toys; another marbles; another colourful plastic gum balls; another lego, etc. There's also some cool books and magazines to leaf through while you wait for your meal, including a range of cool Where's Waldo books for adults and a Banksy art book. I didn't eat the food; it looked fresh, delicious and to be made from fairly raw materials. I ordered a vanilla skinny cappuccino with some trepidation: often, coffee shops make vanilla-based coffees too sweet and too vanilla-dominant. However, the vanilla cap from here was perfect - not a small achievement. It was a strangely cold summer day when I visited and the air conditioning was blasting inside, giving me the chills. It was to the point that I wouldn't want to eat in, as I'd be too cold to be comfortable. I gather the air conditioning is just set to its default summer setting, however, and on 95% of Brisbane summer days the indoor temperature would be very welcoming. The staff were young, nice and hip, in line with the Paddington vibe.

After an early morning Monday visit to Jacaranda Coffee Lane, I decided to hop on over to Scout,…read moreanother very highly rated breakfast spot in town, for a point of comparison. While Scout was good, it didn't quite compare with Jacaranda. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Even early on a Monday morning Scout was packed, and as I waited maybe fifteen minutes for a table I couldn't help but just be almost overcome with jealousy at the fact that it's so commonplace for so many Aussies to have the ability to just take a leisurely Monday morning breakfast. Anyway, I digress - I was promptly seated after a short wait and from there everyone was wonderful. The food did take a hot minute or fifteen to come out, but it was clear that's because my breakfast sandwich was made to order. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $15.00 AUD got me a pretty good sized Brekky Bagel, and while it was pretty basic, this was still good value. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a good, although as I mentioned relatively basic breakfast bagel sandwich. I wished that the bagel itself had been toasted, and while from there the ingredients were good, the whole thing was just a bit more basic than I had thought it would be. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? I didn't for a second dislike my trip to Scout, but there are simply so many great breakfast spots in Brissy that I can't get as excited about Scout as I can for others. No Star.
