This was a little bit of a hike from our hotel but definitely worth it. Service was a little slow but they were very friendly. My sister and I share the Scouts Honor big brekky. This was so good. The pork & maple sausage was one of the best breakfast sausages I've had ever. The cheesy potato bake...I mean, cheese & potatoes...how could you go wrong? My boyfriend got the brekky bagel and said his was awesome too. If you need to find the bathroom, head out the front door turn right and down the first street. The first wooden door is where the bathroom is hidden. There is no sign that there's a bathroom there...just an address.

    Such a cute cafe!

Super cute cafe with awesome breakfast. We had the brekky bagel with added avocado and the avocado toast with bacon. The bacon here is so thick and so good. The brekky bagel was definitely hearty and I loved the peppery kick of the arugula. For drinks we got a macchiato and chai latte. I expected the macchiato to be like the kind I get at Starbucks (so American I know) but the one I got here was essentially just an espresso shot with a dollop of foamed milk. However the espresso is really good and I added just a little water and made it into my very own americano. The chai is really good and comes in a little pot. They also have a wide variety of fruit juices that were really tempting but I was already stuffed. Service is also great and the waitress was so patient with explaining things to us! I definitely recommend this place and wish we had something equivalent back at home.

Famished from my plane ride across the ditch, Lani and I strolled into Scout today for a late lunch. The menu is short - about 3 or 4 lunch options and a couple of salads - but I would have happily demolished each and every item. It all sounded delicious. I ended up ordering the white anchovies served with a capsicum & herb salad and smashed white beans on sourdough. I had had a hankering for anchovies for a couple of days and this definitely hit the spot. Light, fresh and flavoursome! On top of the delicious food, Scout also has delicious coffee (which happens to be made from beans roasted by NZ roastery, Supreme). My latte was strong and grunty - the perfect finish to a brilliant lunch!

We loved Scout! Great brekky, served by efficient, upbeat, fun people in a laid back atmosphere. This excellent experience was all the more amazing considering the Sunday morning onslaught that happened all around us as we enjoyed our coffees, juices, and food. We arrived at 8:15 and needed to wait for some time to get a seat in the front of the store. Around 9am the 'line' outside had grown considerably. We ordered a bunch of nice coffees (latte, cappuccino, picolo) and juices (fresh OJ and something with carrots and ginger that for sure will wake you up). For food we had a bagel with kaiserfleisch, pita with tahini and haloumi, and kale salad (see the pictures for details). All was seriously delicious. Scout is another great example of Brissie's excellent brekky café culture!

This is on my bookmarked bucket list & my sweet sweet man suggested we try it out this morning, post Valentine's Day. "Can't reject this offer. It's going to be a good one" - Sara H. I was right. He was right. The forever talked about Scout handed me the best damn mocha I've ever had in the history of my life. I also felt the need to have some avocado and feta on toast and holy heck- amazing. Despite the basil situation (sorry I just hate basil) I have nothing to report. All was perfect. Vibe- excellent Service- excellent Food- excellent Coffee- excellent Yelp community you never let me down. This constantly "checked in" spot has been an inspiring coffee adventure for this lazy Sunday. Advice #1: if you think you should go, go. Advice #2: if you need a good coffee, go. Follow these two simple rules and you will have an outstanding day. Today has been fun. It's not goodbye, Scout. Just see ya later...

Delicious bagel with smoked salmon egg arugula

When I first stepped into this cafe, I thought to myself, "I've done died and gone to hipster heaven." And when I use the phrase hipster this time, I mean that in a genuinely positive context. This is place is the absolute bomb. Although the sign on the cafe is difficult to read, it seems like everyone from the great Brisbane area has been able to find this place. I went on a bright and early Sunday morning and by 8 am it was already packed. I was treated by a friendly waitress immediately as I walked into the shop and was asked what I wanted to drink while I waited. I got my standard soy cappuccino and sat at the counter by the coffee bar. When a spot opened up on the communal table in the back, I was given a nice wooden stool to sit on while I devoured my smoked salmon, egg and arugula (rocket) bagel. The smoked salmon matched perfectly with the bitterness of the arugula and the slightly runny fried egg finished off a wonderful medley of flavors in my mouth box. I honestly had to keep myself from requesting a second one because although my stomach was full, my brain was still craving more! Three times while I ate, three different servers came by and asked about my meal and whether I wanted anything else. They also periodically fill up my glass of water without any prompting. All in all, I had a wonderful experience eating at Scout and would absolutely come back again.

4/2/2013 - "Indie Cool" Petrie Terrace, Caxton Street, and its surrounds have enjoyed a revival of sorts in the last 5 years or so, especially with the popularity of The Barracks, and the myriad of dining options, and shopping it has on offer, as well as the Palace Cinemas. Further up Petrie Terrace though, it was still quiet and "empty", (despite the amount of traffic here), lacking a spot that regular Joes and laid-back Janes could call their own. Until now. Opening only last Wednesday (30/1/2013), is Scout Cafe at 190 Petrie Terrace, opposite Hardgrave Park. For many years this Victorian heritage listed building, was abandoned, with many rumours of it being an old brothel during the Joh Bielkie-Pietersen era. There's a lot of history and character in this area and this building, and probably one of the reasons why Susannah and Candy decided that it was time to breathe life into this Petrie Terrace gem. Inside is quite "homey", rustic, and has that cosy feeling. Simple and minimal fit out, the wooden floorboards & furniture, the plants that adorn different corners, the large windows with a view of the park, and for watching the world go by, make Scout Cafe such a beautiful little spot. My first impression was that a little bit of West-End's non pretentious vibe, artistic eccentricity had been brought to Petrie Terrace. I describe it as "Indie cool". The charming blackboard reveals the food on offer for the day. Scout Cafe serves "Coffee Supreme" blend from New Zealand and although Scout Cafe's menu isn't extensive (yet), it still sounds yummy, so I ordered the Smoked Salmon, pickled onion, quark & lettuce on a toasted bagel, with an espresso short black. I make my way to the back, a separate room, where there is a large central table with a Melon as a centrepiece (a melon!), and take a seat on the wooden stool. Immediately I see the potential of this room. Along with the fireplace, it feels perfect for those winter months for enjoying a coffee or hot chocolate while reading a book. Their waitress promptly provided me with some water (without me asking); I always appreciate little things like that. The espresso came out, and I downed it like a thirsty Italian on a summer's day. The coffee was rich, not bitter, just the way I like it! Once my meal was brought out, I couldn't wait to try it. I really liked the "smoky-ness" of the salmon fusing with the sweetness of the pickled onions, the quark & lettuce rounding it off nicely. I really liked how the bagel (although toasted) still had a soft texture. Susannah, came by to check in on me asking how the meal was, and I could only utter one word. "Delicious". Scout Café is such a great little place, laid back, comfortable in its own skin, with welcoming friendly owners. For my own selfish reasons, I wish others don't discover this place, but I know this is not going to happen. In fact, I can see that seating will be an issue (with minimal furniture at the moment), as the word spreads of this lovely little space, and more and more people visit. Scout Café is open 7 days a week, breakfast and lunch.

Honestly so worth it. It's vibe is just epic. I love the typical indie/ hipster/ hippie/ relaxed style when it comes to life, especially with cafes. I didn't really know what to expect, except I'd read about it in the Urban List's Top 10 cafes in Brisbane 2014 and was assuming it would be good. We came here for brunch which half turned into lunch. It was very busy but we were lucky that a table of 3 was just leaving as we were arriving so we only had to wait a couple of minutes. The service was great and the waitress was super friendly. Everyone was a bit radical and left of centre who worked or went there which is what I loved so much about it. We had to wait a while for our breakfast (bagels and avocado toast all the way) but it was well worth it...leaving a large food baby behind. It didn't look "that big" but honestly had a hard time finishing it all. The coffees are great there too. It's all round a super cool place with great vibes and a chilled atmosphere. The background music was great as well... well for me... they were practically playing my favourite tracks. There's nothing a good breakfast and coffee can't fix and was the perfect Friday morning brunch experience. Such a great way to end the week and start the weekend. I highly recommend this place but expect it to be busy unless you're ordering takeaway and then you'll be sweet. Definitely worth it and parking is easy :)

I can't speak highly enough about this place. Insanely amazing coffee and incredible breakfast. Lovely staff and good breakfast musical playlists ! Every time I come here I eat the breakfast bagel which is a fried egg, Kaiserfleisch (fancy German bacon), cheese, relish, tomato, aioli and rocket. It's fucking amazing.

It's probably time for a menu shake-up here at Scout. I get that regulars have their favourites but perhaps it's time to bite the bullet and get rid of eg. the breaky salad and breaky bagel. I think the general public are always energised by newness, adventure and the next best thing. Just an idea!?!?! The service, coffee, food and vibe are still good.

What better way than to spend your Sunday morning with a friend, drinking coffee, and a bite to eat. Scout is just the place to do so. After driving past numerous times, and seeing a buzzing beehive of Brisbanites, I had to see for myself. Upon walking in, we grabbed the menu off the counter and started perusing. We were shortly greeted by one of girls working there who explained that it was table service. Despite having no seating available we were quite happy to wait outside on the benches for fifteen minutes or so with a coffee. Under promising and over delivering, the girl collected us after 3 minutes and we were seated. There is about 7 tables with two seats each in the main room, and a large table in the back room seating sixteen. It was really muggy, so I would have preferred to have a seat closer to the door. Our coffees shortly arrived after sitting, I had ordered a piccolo and my friend, a latté. My piccolo was silky and packed full of flavour. I had to have another. I didn't ask what beans they were using, but the barista know what she was doing! For food, I ordered the smashed avocado on pane with the works. This included feta, egg, chorizo, kaiserfleisch, and lemon. Wow. What an avalanche of flavour, definitely the heartiest option on the menu, and well worth the money. What can I say Scout, other than a job well done. Keep up the awesome work! I'll be back, that's for sure.

Every now and then it's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and Scout holds that perfect haven. Not too far from the CBD in Spring Hill, it's a short bus ride with a stop nearly right outside the front door or a leisurely walk, although uphill. Scout's interior design almost reminds of a small hipster cafe from the northern suburbs of Melbourne, various nicknacks on the walls and floor, mismatched timber counter and bench top and mini hanging garden from the roof. Even the very friendly staff match the vibe perfectly. The food menu, printed in a quaint typewriter-style font, is simple and simple done well. It consists of the usual modern breakfast suspects - smashed avocado, bircher muesli, breakfast bagel and breakfast burrito to name a few. The lunch section keeps it simple and consists of a selection of bagels and salads. On this visit I had the 8 hour slow cooked pulled beef brisket bagel with provolone, fresh cucumber, aoili and rocket. A wonderful combination of ingredients, the cucumber was a little unexpected but added well to the flavour mix. A cheese lover at heart, some extra cheese would've made this even more amazing. Coffee was on point, beans from Coffee Supreme, and completed a great lunch. For those looking to take a break from it all or just after some well thought, no fuss food and coffee, Scout is the place to be.

You know what irks me? Paying for bad coffee. This is not one of those places. I'm not a big coffee drinker but when I do, it has to be good. That's fair, right? I'd rather save the coffee space in my belly for a few days till I get to Scout then having bad coffee. Scout CONSISTENTLY delivers. Kudos to the barista! I must admit I need to be more adventurous with my brekky at Scout, but it's hard when when the avo smash with Keiserfleisch is sooooo delicious! Having said that, I've had the brekky bagel and since then the brekky salad. Both of which are outstanding. For lunch I've only had the spicy chicken bagel which is moderately spicy and a bit messy but extremely tasty. As for the messy part, live a little! That's why they invented napkins.

I've been wanting to try Bunker for the longest time, and today was the day. I love the vine covered hub, which reminds me of a burrow, and of a cafe that I used to visit back in L.A. Instead of getting my usual latte, I went for the bottled ice dark chocolate (5). I'm not the biggest fan of hot chocolate, as it's usually too sweet and heavy for me to finish (I know, strange, because I can finish a whole Chipotle burrito), but I decided that the unusually warm weather called for an iced chocolate. We were greeted by a really friendly barista who helped us right away - and well - the iced dark chocolate and dark chocolate mocha were pre-bottled, so there wasn't much work. The iced dark chocolate, made with organic milk (I think?) and fair trade chocolate, was quickly consumed! It wasn't too sweet, and I would definitely go for it again. The iced dark mocha was also really good, and not at all grainy, which often happens in a lot of mochas. My only complaint was that the bottles were a bit harder to open (I prefer Bean's bottles), and the straws were too short and kept falling in! The drinks were so delicious it didin't matter though....

Of course there's the obligatory cafe items, and comforts with modern twists like a fig glazed ham and cheese toastie, but then it's mixed with surprise additions like a green tea soba noodle salad (yes I went there for breakfast), splashes of kimchi and a tumeric iced chai latte. Tumeric is so 2016 it hurts. As the cafe filled with weekend brunch hunters, we were never rushed as our group of four grazed through our breakfast and stayed on for another round of coffee. Coffee while we're talking that is roasted by the cafe and consistently turned out a exceptional cup both as a long black and flat white. Add in the chat we had with one of the owners about the history of the building and their discoveries of old advertising signs as they renovated the space and you've got me giving this local gem two thumbs up. Pro Tip: there's heaps of space in the back room for prams and kids (especially out in the back vege garden) and for those of us dog loving cafe hoppers - the four-legged patrons are welcomed with ample footpath seating.

This place gets an exception. First visit, I know this place is going to be hugely popular. The put your name on a list and wait 45 minutes popular. I had the Japanese cheese toast with miso emulsion. Was pretty amazing. The coffees were great. The staff are attentive (and good looking). The owner could tell we were coffee drinkers, so brought us over some cold drip to compare with the iced filter we had bought. The only downside - the building seems to get quite hot.

Remy's is a mostly help yourself kinda place (find your own seat, get your own cutlery/water and order at the counter) but once I figured that out I was set. The breakfast menu is quite simple with a handful of items you'd expect from a breakfast menu. Today I opted for the Bacon and Eggs on Sourdough which sounded pretty simple but I was in the mood for bacon! Once my meal arrived it wasn't the prettiest picture but boy did it taste good. Let me break it down for you: - the bacon was thick (as described on the menu) and was amazing, who knew making bacon thicker made it more delicious!? - the eggs were poached to perfection. All oozy and good! - the sourdough was magical and appeared to be fried/saturated in butter which is a very good thing! - the salad was basic leafy greens but cut through the greasiness and the balsamic was a nice treat (I haven't had balsamic in a while) - the relish was a nice accompaniment, adding a sweet/spicy component to the meal. Overall it was delicious and filling! The coffee here was pretty delicious. I left here on a caffeine high after consuming a flat white and a long black. The bean is from Supreme which is fast becoming my fave coffee. The service was decent but nothing to rave about. As mentioned before majority of seating is outdoors so not so good is raining.
