It was clear there was seating inside, but they also have an outdoor seating area that is much more enjoyable. The entire street is like a plaza so there's no cars rumbling by. Also, the area where they make food reminds me of Chipotle, a lot. Pretty neat. The employees were very patient. The particular employee taking our order had to rewrite our order three times because some of us kept changing our sandwich, and that's something that'd piss me off, but these employees have self-restraint, much kudos to them. They also called the name on our order and brought our food outside. They're doing so much and it made the experience so good. My sandwich was fantastic. I had the chicken sandwich, and it was so crispy. The chicken had so much crunch and my bread must've been fresh out of the oven cause it was nice and warm. Might be the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. Fantastic restaurant, employees, and food. I highly suggest that you stop by here no matter what you're doing in the area. Must-try sandwiches here.

Lester's appealed to us because it doesn't draw the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds that apparently bedevil the more famous Schwartz's. We were on our way back from Marche Jean-Talon when we walked through Outremont where we found ourselves immersed in the historic architecture and the prevalent Hasidic Jewish community. It was fairly quiet when we arrived here. The young server was quite attentive as we ordered the signature C$16.95 Smoked Meat Sandwich (Sandwich à la Viande Fumee). One was enough to split with thin, hand-cut slices of smoked brisket piled high (Photo 8). Two thin slices of rye bread smeared with yellow mustard were just enough to pick up the generous sandwich. There was no lettuce, tomato, or mayonnaise. Didn't need it. Delicious. Instead, we went for the C$3.50 Potato Salad (Salade Pommes de Terre) (Photo 10). It was prepared in the classic, old-school Eastern European Jewish deli style with plenty of full-fat mayo. It was the ideal late afternoon lunch without fellow tourists Instagramming everything. Montreal is very much a foodie city, and one of things their known for is smoked meat -…read morespecifically, the type traditionally served in Jewish Delis. Arguably, the most famous smoked meat spot in the city is Schwartz's - and indeed when we were walking past it there was a huge line of people waiting to get in. Smoked meat wasn't on the top of my list, as I could easily go to a Jewish Deli in NYC - but we were on a food tour and this was one of the stops. That being said, I was looking forward to checking out the meats. Lester's is located in Outremont, which is also the home to Montreal's Hasidic Jewish community. The place gave off old school vibes - walking in we were greeted by the deli counter with tables scattered throughout the dining room. The decor was charming and casual with touches of kitsch on the walls without being tacky. There is a good variety of classic deli dishes, though we went classic and got the smoked meat with rye, pickles, and mustard. There was enough for each of us to make one sandwich, so that's what we did. This was honestly better than I expected - the meat was juicy and tender, the bread was soft yet was able to withstand being part of a sandwich, and the pickles were super flavorful. Special shoutout to the mustard - we were told they make their own which I felt was a really special touch. Service was good, and overall this was an unexpected highlight of my food tour. Jewish deli food is not something I usually gravitate towards, but this was some of the best I've had - it's well worth making a trip here.

Some restaurants are famous for a reason, and Schwartz's is absolutely one of them!…read more After reading about Schwartz's in the Michelin Guide, we knew we had to make a stop during our time in Montréal. The moment we walked in, we were greeted, seated, and asked if it was our first visit. When we said yes, the gentleman immediately pointed to the smoked meat sandwich highlighted on the wall and said, "This is what you want." No further convincing needed! And wow, was he right. The sandwich was piled high with incredibly tender, melt-in-your-mouth smoked meat, tucked between two relatively thin slices of bread with just a touch of mustard. What impressed me most was the balance. Despite the generous amount of meat, nothing felt overwhelming. The seasoning was beautifully restrained, allowing the richness and flavor of the meat to speak for itself. Sometimes the simplest combinations are the hardest to perfect, and Schwartz's has clearly mastered this one. The atmosphere is an experience in itself. Imagine a restaurant the size of a small apartment, absolutely buzzing with people, yet operating like a well-oiled machine. Guests are constantly coming and going, the staff moves with impressive efficiency, and somehow everything feels organized rather than chaotic. Our food arrived almost immediately, and the service was genuinely friendly and attentive. The walls are covered with photographs of famous visitors and articles documenting the restaurant's history and success. You really get the sense that you're sitting inside a little piece of Montréal history. This isn't somewhere you come for a long, leisurely lunch or an intimate atmosphere. You come for an iconic sandwich, a lively experience, and a restaurant that knows exactly what it does best. Five stars without hesitation. No complaints from us, and absolutely worth every dollar. If you're visiting Montréal, put Schwartz's on your list and trust the recommendation when they tell you what to order!

It was a decent serving of meat so my husband and I ordered one sandwich. Make sure you don't miss this spot if you're visiting Canada..
