Castaway Cabin, front-side. The rocks are completely covered when the tide comes in.
    Trista H.

My wife and I wanted to do some hiking in the Olympic Peninsula so we booked two nights at Chito Beach. Reservations and all communication via phone and email was extremely easy with Ali. Ali was friendly, helpful and prompt in all of our correspondence. Visa and MasterCard are accepted forms of payment. To hold a reservation, half of the charges are due at the time reservations are made. The remaining half of the balance is paid at check-in time. We chose the Castaway Cabin. Darling cabin made up of many clever re-purposed items. Love that. The view of the water is amazing. Watching the sun rise and set for two days was extremely relaxing. Wi-Fi is available but we had a hard time getting any service with our laptop. We never had a problem with our phones though. Be sure to contact your phone carrier prior to arriving so that you are not charged roaming fees. During our stay out here, the towers accessed were in Canada, although we were still in the United States. Our cabin was furnished with just about everything to make ones stay easy and enjoyable. There is not an oven; however, two induction burners are offered to cook on. A full microwave. A full size coffee pot (no grinder though). A full set of pot & pans are available. Glasses, plate-ware and silverware are available (wine opened & beer opener included). There is one ice cube tray in the freezer. Dishes are hand washed since there isn't a dishwasher. Salt, pepper and foil are available. Coffee filters, popcorn, cocoa and tea are also available. Toiletries aren't really offered aside from some hand soap so be sure to bring your own shampoo and conditioner. There are two heavy blankets available to help ward off the chill while sitting on the outside deck. A communal area is available to BBQ. Be sure to bring your own briquettes if you plan to BBQ. This neck of the woods is near the Makah tribe which happens to be a "dry" reservation. With that being said, be sure to bring your own beer, wine and spirits from home because you will be hard pressed to find any sold at the stores or convenience stores. During our stay here, most hikes require either the Discover Pass or the National Forest Pass. The passes are not interchangeable. Thank you Ali and Brian for providing such a gem of a place to play at, relax, and recharge. Thank you for caring about the footprint that you're leaving on our environment by using re-purposed items.

The path in front of the Birdhouse cabin beckons you to stroll and explore the beach.

For those of you reading through all of these 5-star reviews and wondering about the outlier (Jackie S.) who gave a rating of one star, I have to say, this has me baffled. You could not ask to meet kinder, more wonderful people than the current owners of Chito Beach. Matt and Tamara are gracious and thoughtful hosts who go above and beyond to make your stay at their resort a one of a kind, memorable experience. They pride themselves on keeping Chito Beach a peaceful oasis where you can lose yourself in the sound of the waves, the colors of the sunset, or watching otters at play. I cannot recommend Chito Beach highly enough! If you want to escape the pressures of life and find true relaxation a few short hours from Seattle, this is the place to go.

My mom found this place on Tripadvisor for our family trip to the Olympic Peninsula, and wow... what a find! It's a small place kind of in the middle of nowhere. The address is Sekiu, but it's actually a bit west of the main part of Sekiu (not that there's really enough to call it a "main part," either). Not a bad location if you want to explore Neah Bay, Shi Shi Beach, and the Ozette Triangle. There are only six units, all uniquely furnished. We had 6 people, so we stayed in the Lighthouse and Wolf Den, which each held 3 people and were right next to each other. If I went back with fewer people, I think I'd go for the Birdhouse because the layout looked really neat. All of the units have a fully-equipped kitchen, and the appliances and cookware are as nice as what I have at home! The units are all beach-facing and a few steps away from beach access. The owners are a real highlight of the experience. They love it there, and they want everyone else to love it, too. And as one of them said, "We like any excuse to throw a party." We were there for the 4th of July, and they had a big BBQ for guests and neighbors, and the guys set off quite a fireworks show on the beach. It was like having a big extended family - so much fun! They said they do a big party for summer solstice, too.

My wife and I have a passion for travel, and that often means fancy hotels, big cities and five star restaurants. But in the six years we've been married, our stay at Chito Beach was by far our favorite. The location is incredibly beautiful, and the cabin was beyond perfect. It felt like we were at home. They even provide binoculars to see the wildlife and a guidebook to know what you're seeing! We spent four nights, and each night we opened the windows and listened to the sea roll in. Back home in Florida, I sometimes have difficulty sleeping, but at the Rock House, the sound of the sea hushed me back to sleep so peacefully. It was no wonder that as the sun rose, I still felt refreshed enough to watch it come up over the Strait of Juan de Fuca in the window seat in our loft. Trust me, I'm not a morning person, but each morning I got myself up, watched the sunrise from this gorgeous view, and then went back to bed and snuggled with my wife. We walked the beach and were dazzled by sea anemones. We watched seals and sea otters from our porch. I'm 53 years old, and just a short drive from the resort, my wife and I saw what we agree was the most amazing sunset of our lives! This is the type of place you go to love life. We will be back.

So we went for a hike and to the nearest town. We returned late in the afternoon. They told us they were worried and had phoned us several times. We were there in the morning, we had some other plans, and already paid for the room. Why wouldn't we return if everything nearby was booked? There is no phone coverage. At least for us:( Their front desk is in the grocery store. So we followed the lady to the place where the rooms are. The room are tiny but cute. Like a little studio. They have tv and kitchen. Bring your shampoo and stuff because you won't find amenities. I don't know if these are cottages but they are rooms in something like a container. Although, there was a huge spider inside the bed and that the bathroom white luttke carpet was dirty, I think this was the best we could find in a very busy holiday :)

The place is creepy in the off-season. When my boyfriend and I arrived late on a January night, we realized we'd be the only ones staying in this secluded part of Sekiu. We felt pretty vulnerable, but obviously survived. 2. Room was freezing and took forever to warm up. I had called ahead and said we'd be staying there, but the owners didn't warm up a room for us. Instead we turned on the heating ourselves and spent the first four hours of the night there dressed in all the socks, sweater and jackets we had while cuddled on the bed. And the bedding is hardly anything on its own - very thin blanket and comforter. I eventually took a hot shower and then put all the warm stuff on again. By 2 a.m., we could finally take some of the clothing off because the room was finally warm enough. 3. THE CAT - the gaddamn cat. There's a stray cat that literally sat outside our door and meowed until we finally turned off all the lights and were completely quiet. So that was 3-4 hours of a cat meowing outside of our door. 4. Room itself is generally old/crappy as you can see in one of my photos. It definitely needs some renovation! So why did we stay here at all? A lot of places are closed in the offseason, but this one wasn't. It was also the closest open place to our hiking area near Ozette Lake. Everything else is about a half-hour more away. If I could do it again, I would have stayed in Neah Bay or Forks and just deal with the extra driving time.

I politely asked for a different room but was told none were available. When I requested a refund for the second night, I was met with hostility and falsely accused of breaking the sofa, which was already broken on arrival. The manager dismissed our concerns, saying I "chose to come to a rural area," as if that justified unsanitary conditions. I'm in the military and have stayed in many rural places--none this poorly maintained. Avoid this place if you care about your health, comfort, or being treated with respect. Also, if it's under new management, they definitely don't know how to talk to people and show care towards their customers.
