I hate this diner with the ferocity of a hungry wolf. I would rather go, literally, any other place than dine-in here. I've been to this restaurant several times and have never had a good experience here. The atmosphere is very calm and the food is above par, but that means nothing when you consider the service I have received. Every time I dine here, it is worse than the last time I was here. On several occasions I have had to flag my waiter down to start an order, check on my order, and then get a check. They were far too busy talking to other staff members to be bothered with something like their paying customers. I expect better from a restaurant that I consistently go to for a $22 breakfast item.
Here's an example from today:
I arrived to meet with a party that had already eaten. When I arrived, the hostess rolled her eyes to see me walk in and flashed me a forced smile. I told her I was meeting some people and that I had already seen them. She gestured inwards and I went to be seated. I sat and waited about 10 minutes for my waiter to even notice that I was at the table before asking the people sitting with me what the waiter looked like. They informed me he was a man, and I began to search for him. When I finally saw him, I waved to get his attention and told him that I would like to order. He sighed through a heavy "ok", then tried to rush me to pick something to drink. I told him I wanted a coffee, but quickly followed with "I would like to see a menu before I pick a drink". He gave me an OK and rushed off. These guys have a rather fancy coffee bar so I was hoping that I would be able to get something nice coffee-wise to drink.
When the waiter returned, he had a plain cup of coffee. I told him, "I'm sorry. I want a cappuccino." The waiter appeared very aggravated with me for asking him for a pricier item. He then walked off, before I was able to tell him what I wanted to eat. Thinking this is just a miscommunication, I sat there making conversation with the other members of my party and watched the coffee bar. I really needed a coffee and something to eat, as I was taking medication. The waiter did not approach the coffee bar for at least 10 minutes, and he was nowhere on the dining floor. Around this time, I was beginning to get aggravated. I needed to digest this medication or I would lose it's benefit for the majority of the day. Finally, the waiter saw fit to walk over to coffee bar, waited for less than a minute and I got my coffee.
I then told him what I wanted to eat and we continued our discussion. After 20 minutes of waiting, the other members of my party were looking at their watches and talking about things they needed to do for the day. I was done. I needed to get the check and get out. So, I waved down the waiter. Who was very busy, not making eye contact with another group that had called him over. I then told him to cancel my order and bring us the check. He told me they were cooking it. I told him it's taking far too long and "I have to go". I ordered something simple from the menu for this reason. He rolled his eyes and looked like I just told him he owed me money. He went over to the computer where he thrumped the screen and called his manager over. His manager listened to him and then came over to our table.
She informed me that the meal is almost done, and that they don't cancel orders when they are being prepared. I told her I don't have time to wait any longer and I just want to cancel my item. She then told me that, that shouldn't be a problem. She walked into the kitchen. Then back to the computer. Together the two of them gestured at the screen. They then both went back into the kitchen, waited a couple minutes, then came back out to print the check, went back into the kitchen, waited a couple minutes, and then finally came to the table with the check and a wrapped box in hand. This whole ballet took about 5 minutes. She told me that it was the meal for me to take, and it was on the house. I told her I don't want it. She said, "It's ok. It's on the house."
Now, I don't want to imbue this manager with unproven malice, so I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure she was trying to make the experience better. But the systemic flagrant disregard for my time and money, is not made up for by a half-assed attempt to give me a free meal that may or may not have been spit on by every member of the wait staff that just so happens to be in the kitchen at the time. We left very upset, with another utterance of "We will never return here." Then I walked around the corner and ate at Dunkin Donuts (food I hate) because I needed to eat immediately
Honestly, If you're going to eat here, order for delivery. It'll be cold and taste vaguely like Styrofoam but I'd rather that, then deal with this environment. read more
