Sorry in advance for this long review. But when I post a negative review I guess I feel a little guilty and need to justify the rating.
We stopped here last week for the first time. We were passing through the area on the way back from LaGuardia Airport.
As somebody who grew up in the NY Metro area, and now living in Pennsylvania, I miss real diners. We just don't have places like this in PA. So I look forward to visiting them when in the NY area. I am usually pleased with these diner visits. But, this one was a big disappointment.
When we first pulled in I was impressed with the number of cars in the parking area. Lots of customers usually is an indication of a good restaurant. But, the experience was negative from the very first interaction.
Our experience began with the hostess. After asking how many in our party (the answer was three), she curtly told us it would be a few minutes. Looking in I saw quite few open tables. But, OK, I didn't think too much about it. After telling us this, she simply leaned against her podium and waited. At no time did she ever look into the seating area. Nor did she look down at any sort of seating chart. After about three minutes, she picked up three menus and told us to follow her. She led us to a table which I had seen open as we walked in. There seemed to be no reason to keep us waiting. We all acknowledged this odd situation. Had it been the only issue we likely would have written it off. But it wasn't.
After sitting down, we were approached by a server who politely and professionally took our order. Maybe the hostess was an anomaly. Our food was delivered quickly. And everything was correct. Unfortunately, the quality was very disappointing. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and vanilla milk shake. The shake was thin and watery, and the chicken salad was dry, had no flavor, and no texture that resembled chicken.
While eating, busboys promptly filled our water glasses. And they quickly removed our dishes when we were done. But we never saw our server again. After finishing our meal, we were never offered a dessert menu. We were never asked how everything was. We never even received a check. We sat patiently waiting for it, but it never arrived. We had to eventually ask a different server for the check.
We paid on the way out, and the young lady at the register was consistent with the experience up to that point. She was deeply engaged in a conversation with the young hostess who had kept us waiting when we arrived. They seemed to be complaining to each other about something work related there at the diner. In the process she never communicated with me in any way. She took my bill and my debit card. She handed me back the receipt to sign, and took it back. She made no eye contact. She never asked if everything was OK. She never said thank you. She did all this while not skipping a beat in her bitch session with the hostess.
As a result of this overall negative experience, I cannot recommend this place. read more
