We stopped by for a late lunch and really liked the place. Ordered fried oysters, beet hummus, fish fritters, crab and avocado toast, and snapper dip for appetizers. Fried oysters are a must try. We ordered twice as they were so good. The fish fritters were not my favorite. The batter lacked taste and was overpowering the taste of the fish. The crab on Avacado toast was fresh and tasted good. Didn't care about the snapper dip though. For main course, we ordered fish tacos, fish sandwich and quinoa bowl(veggie). The sandwich was really tasty- fresh fish, well seasoned and perfectly blackened. The tacos however were not impressive. It was mostly to do with the Tortillas which were dry. The fried oyster appetizer on fried kale is a must try. Would also recommend the red snapper dip comes with fresh corn chips and candied jalapeños for a great combo. The frozen drinks are pricey but the Billy Ocean was very good with chunks of pineapple in it and a spiced rum floater, definitely on the strong side and pretty sweet. The atmosphere is fabulous with live music often. It is right across the street from Red's and my preferred choice. Overall, the food is pretty decent, especially for the price. But I had to give a low rating because of our experience tonight. We were under the impression that employees would be wearing masks as stated on Yelp. That was not so at all. My husband chose to wear a mask inside the packed restaurant as he picked up our food. When he entered, everyone stared, including the employees and they were not friendly. The political climate is intense now but he wasn't trying to make a political statement while wearing a mask inside a bar area as he picked up dinner. He has asthma and wanted to protect himself and our other children who also have asthma. Maybe it was compounded by the fact that he's Asian American. This was such an amazing first dining experience in Fort Walton Beach! The food was excellent, the drinks were delicious, and our server, Gabby was impeccable! She was sweet, thoughtful, took her time even though the place was super busy, and she gave great recommendations after hearing our likes and dislikes. Cons: The wait time was about 45 minutes and they don't have a buzzer or they don't text you when your table is ready- they ask you to come back at a certain time. We came back at our time and were told they'd go check on our table and then never came back. We had to flag someone else down. When we were finally seated in the upstairs dining area, they had five tables available. Guys, please check what escabeche actually is because what you are serving is not it. Really bummed... These guys have lots of potential but we decided to cut it short after the appetizer course. We used to love this place, but it has taken a serious nose-dive. The location is great, but the food is just OK. They have started using only plastic dishes and glasses. It feels like you are at McDonalds instead of a real restaurant. If Chiringo returned to their roots where they seemed to care about the food and the experience, we'd go back.
