Dog River Retreat - Charlie

Dog River Retreat

Dog River Retreat is an amazing dog daycare and a wonderful option for dogs needing some extra…read moreactivity and stimulation throughout the week. Our dog, Theo, needs consistent levels of activity in his schedule or he can start to get bored (and sometime destructive). While we do lots of walks and dog park trips, we felt like a weekly doggy daycare visit would help him blow off some steam, give him some socialization with new dogs and people, and relieve our schedules a bit. We're also big believers that regular exercise is some of the best "training" you can do for a dog - dogs with too much energy seem much more likely to get into trouble. So why Dog River Retreat? It's by far the best option out there in terms of providing supervision, allowing dogs to be dogs in large outdoor grassy spaces, and it's convenient. When I started my doggy daycare research, I found that most options in the city were overcrowded, loud, and mostly concrete. That environment didn't seem like a good fit for a sensitive rescue dog like ours, and feels potentially dangerous (I wasn't surprised to read reviews of dogs getting hurt or coming home with cuts and scrapes). Dog River Retreat felt like the opposite, with lots of space to spread out, sniff, and opt in or out of group play. I was so happy to find an option with spacious, natural outdoor space - if your dog loves going to dog parks, this is the right place. While not physically located in the city of Atlanta, Cruise does regular pick-ups and drop-offs in the city for no extra charge - hard to beat door-to-door service! Cruise is really great with the dogs and an excellent communicator, texting us when he's 10-15 minutes out (or he's also fine with using a lockbox key if you're not home during pick up or drop off). He also provides us with photo and video updates, and Theo always looks like he's having the best time. Typically, he's gone from about 8am and back by around 3pm - he comes home happy and almost immediately climbs into bed and passes out for the rest of the day. The price is consistent with any of the other options in the city and feels well worth it. Thank you Cruise for providing a safe and fun outlet for our city dog!

I've been bringing Luna and Charlie to dog River Retreat for a couple weeks now and they Love it! I…read moredrop them off and pick them up myself since I live in Whitesburg/Carrollton area. They LOVE being outdoors and the exercise is so good for them. We've tried other doggy "day care" places and they don't get to be outdoors enough at the other places. I will be using them for overnight boarding as well.

I won't blab about how great EVERYONE there is but will give you an example of them going above and beyond for Mimi's comfort and my peace of mind. Mimi is a little pig (literally) and got into some of the neighbor's birdseed along with, possibly, something else toxic for her little body. She was having a seizure when I found her and was unresponsive for the next 12 hours. We made it into the clinic within a couple hours of this happening. Not one but both doctors ( Dr. Burnett and Dr. Lohani) came into the clinic during their off-hours to evaluate and save poor Mimi's life. Doctor Lohani stayed with her throughout the night allowing for me to call and receive updates on her progress! I don't know everyone's name/title but can tell you that each employee has treated Mimi as their own and I would never allow anyone, not even a friend, to pet-sit for Ms. Mimi over this clinic. Special shout-out to Susan at the front desk who I know for a fact has made runs to the store on her lunch break to get Mimi her favorite snacks, grapes and cheerios. Thank you to Carla, Dawn and everyone else who has been instrumental in saving Mimi's life and at the very least, giving her a second home when I'm away!

TW: pet death In my opinion and the opinion of many…read morerespected organizations/state boards, intracardiac euthanasia ("cardiac stick") is considered a method of last resort and certainly never a preferred way to euthanize an animal (not considered a "good death" which is what the word euthanasia means). Yet, this is the means AWVH chose to put down my pet IN FRONT OF ME. Yes, pet was sedated first in case that makes a difference to you. No, I was not offered an IV catheter for the more humane and traditional method. It all happened so fast without any word of exactly what was happening (or choice) until it was happening. Was that the beginning and end of this traumatic experience? Not even close. They had the body bag hanging on the outside of the door, so I saw it multiple times as staff went in and out of room. An assistant came in and clumsily did a paw and nose print in front of me shortly after the procedure. The staff were loud and laughing outside the door while we mourned. I received multiple pushy phone calls to pick up ashes. What an absolute sh*t show. Even more happened, but this should be enough to help you decide whether to choose AWVH for your pet's end of life needs.

After over 30 calls to different pet boarding facilities and All saying " sorry,we are completely booked for the Thanksgiving holiday" Guided Footsteps Canine Camp came to my rescues! I will be fully transparent I am very protective of my fur babies so was a bit hesitant at first as I was only use to one specific boarding school to watch them however there was only room for my feline at that facility and not my canine. So unfortunately they were going to be separated. Alicia from Guided Footsteps was so thorough with her processes, very informative, communication remained consistent. To add, Alicia had A-1 review ratings, testimonials on google and her official website. Once o was able to get all my questions answered and agree to boarding, Alicia sent all her paper work electronically to review and sign off on. Very easy confident process. She also gives you an itemized break down of your daily charges for you to review before confirming the booking. There was no pressure, no fine print, no hidden fees, everything was straight forward. Alicia also has 5 fur babies of her own in which one happens to be a black lab name Buddy who looked like a twin to my black lab Onyx which was very cool! Onyx gained 5 new besties and I can tell he missed them. Alicia sent us daily updates and attached photos of Onyx playing or relaxing. She sent us the absolute cutest thanksgiving photo I'll post with this review. Alicia's proactiveness and communication brought my family and I lots of comforts knowing our Onyx was in great hands! I absolutely do plan to utilize Alicia's services in the future. She has been a true blessing and nothing but amazing! I highly recommend Guided Footsteps Canine Camp!
