I've been to many Chipotle's over the years but this location is dear to my heart. Everything has a beginning and this is Chipotle's birthplace. It was an ice cream shop when I was a kid. I've lived in this area most of my life and even skated at the old DU ice arena. I think I first experienced this location back in 95 and it's been pretty much the same. I remember that the floor lifted at one point and had a stairway to the basement. I know my check-ins here are in the triple digits. The food always seems super fresh at this location compared to other stores. You won't find a menu on the wall (If you know you know,) so I recommend a burrito or bowl with brown rice, black beans, chicken, pico, corn, and guac! The queso is also good if you want to mix it up a bit. Seating is sparse inside but there are quite a few spots outside to enjoy your big rolled burrito or bowl and watch the bustling university activity. With a Starbuds next door and the Stadium Inn across the street you will be amused. The service is always good here but if the line is out the door you might have a 10 minute wait. Enjoy! Very first thing we did after landing in Denver ... head straight to the original Chipotle store opened in 1993. It's a very small store with few seats inside, but lots of table available outside. We got several bowls quickly for our lunch. I loved the taste of ingredients from this store, it's different than NJ. Fajitas are spicier, Chicken al pastor has more flavor. Maybe it's the Denver elevation. Crew are super nice. We small chit chat about being the original store. The restroom was well maintained. I was little bumped to see how Chipotle has not put any effort in making this landmark more attracting. Other than a plaque in the brick wall, there's nothing else, no souvenir, so swag for tourists like us to take back home. The compact space with few stools looked like a humble beginning. Parking is minimal, with two or three spaces by the building. For us, we parked in the residential area, and another option is to park on the street. It felt like I was walking on a cloud because this restaurant REVOLUTIONIZED how fast food should be prepared with every ingredient labeled on the bag. Everything was jolly until I encountered their service at the cashier. Before paying, there was a lot of scanning using the app. Not only did I want to claim my points, but I also wanted to use free Chips that were expiring on the day. Whoever the cashier was, she could have been more friendly by providing us with our drink after paying. I had to ask for it as she gave me an annoying look. I said thank you and no reply. The subpar service left a bad taste in my mouth as I couldn't enjoy the food. What would typically be a two-star experience, I bumped one up only because of the history of this place. read more

Food - 8/10 chipotle is always solid. This is the first chipotle. The quality standard between all chipotles is on point. I will say though there is no sitting room to eat other than outside. This is our "home chipotle" if u will. But tonight there was a huge consistency issue. Lesson learned do NOT order online. Husband gets there and we are given two of our 4 menu items ordered. Luckily he checks the bag and tells them they're missing a whole tacos and burrito bowl. 10 min later they come back with another bag and don't even say sorry, etc. I was working at the time and didn't get home until much later. When I get home from a 11 hour day in a busy hospital starving, i find my chicken bowl has the following items missing: corn salsa and salsa verse, but they added a few things I never get and did not order: cheese, sour cream and lettuce. No corn and salsa verse PLUS UNWANTED cheese, lettuce, and sour cream GTFO. I know this probably seems petty but changed the whole flavor profile of the bowl. Plus I asked for extra chicken so this thing was like 12.50$. I go on the chipotle app to get a refund and report the issue, they won't refund me but offer me a drink that again I don't want. To add insult to injury I always tip 20% even on online takeout orders bc I know these peeps be busting their asses. Will I eat here again- yes bc it's the closest to my house??!! Less than stellar experience again today, I went in person to make sure I got what I wanted. A manager was having a personal call at the front door and let me in but nobody was at the counter. I waited then a girl came directly from sipping on an employee drink to serving me, no hand wash/glove change. There was a bit of a language barrier so I was patient but I had to ask 3 times to get corn, again my favorite part. My meal for the most part was decent but the guac was not, shown is a large chunk of underripe rock hard (but somehow still brown) avocado from a weird batch of guacamole. I'm a huge fan of Chipotle so I was super excited to go to the very first one when I was in Denver last month. This location is super cute, it's like a tiny version of the ones most of us are accustom to. The line where food is prepared looks to be half the size of my normal location in California and there isn't much seating offered but the acknowledgment given to this Chipotle as awesome as this is where the burrito empire started. Four stars as my food was delicious. My only issue was this location not having pollo asado. They made it seem as pollo asado wasn't a thing anymore but as the time of this review, it's still being offered at other locations. Employees weren't especially nice but they woere efficient and that's what I really care about. read more

This is the very first Chipotle that ever opened back in 1993. It is located by the University of Denver. I ordered a barbacoa (barbecue beef) burrito with rice, black beans, pinto beans, pico de gallo, queso, and guacamole. It was good, like most standard Chipotles as nowadays. I myself think Chipotle drastically improved their ingredients since the mid 2010s. The service was decent, and it's actually faster food than a McDonalds and Taco Bell. The restaurant itself is a bit on the small side, and it was probably intended for take-out back when it was built. read more

Started my very sad Chipotle journey today at 4pm at the Logan and Alameda location. I walked in and absolutely no acknowledgment from the one lone employee sweeping the floor behind the counter. He just kept sweeping. Not a hello or I will be right with you NOTHING! 2 minutes standing there I left. I was on my way to Rosedale so I decided to go the the Chipotle on East Evans! Surely Steve Ellis's first and original location would provide the superior customer experience. Went inside and again no hello or acknowledgement. One person in line and 8 employees standing around in the kitchen. Finally the clueless kid behind the counter throws up a sign that says "only cash". No hello, no how may I help you, just throw a sign up on the glass! I say excuse me? He says our system is down and we are only taking cash or digital orders! Who the hell carriers cash these days? Perhaps they should have closed for the day because they are utterly clueless on how to run a business and treat customers He could have put that sign on the door so I did not have to waste my time waiting AGAIN!!!! Why are you even open? Had a sign been on the door, I would have never gone in and I will never go to any Chipotle again! I AM DONE!! This company needs to go the way of Target. I just recently went to chipotle and it was absolutely amazing. Chipotle Mexican Grill offers a customizable and flavorful fast-casual dining experience, making it a popular choice for not just others but me as well. The ability to build your own burrito or bowl with a variety of proteins, rice, beans, and toppings allows for a personalized meal that caters to diverse tastes. One thing that did stump me was all the extra costs, I think Chipotle would be even better if they didn't charge so much for things such as double chicken, queso, guacamole, etc. But I do understand it is a business, and they have to make money some way. Just recently I got a burrito that was doubled wrapped, filled with white rice, chicken, salsa, cheese, and sour cream. I got all that for under $10! That's what I liked most about my experience coming here, they have so many options between burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and bowls all with a bunch of different options to put in each one. Chipotle allows for an immersive experience for the needs of the customer to not only be met but be exceeded to. The combination of the staff not knowing what to do, ingredient items missing, running low or not ready, and issues with equipment that slow the process make this a location to skip. Our last visit, yesterday, they were out of napkins in the entire restaurant, part of the soda machine was broken, and they couldn't get new rice prepped for the order.
