Now it isn't uncomfortably spicy but you get some burn. Secondly, the chili is THICK! (My pic showed my spoon standing up in the chili). Service was excellent as our waitress took care of our table and others near us. The environment was not quiet, it bordered on loud but we could carry on conversations. We were in from out of state, and decided to meet up with family for Denny's for our Christmas…read moredinner. First off, I called Denny's in Cambridge, from my home state of Virginia to see if they would be open for the holidays. I received an automated message that basically said, "Thank you for calling your Cambridge Denny's! Spend the holidays with us! We're open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, including Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and New Year's". With that message, our family of 14 planned to dine at Denny's on Christmas Day. Just days before leaving town, I called to inquire about 'call ahead seating' or reservations. I listened to the automated message again, and got an employee on the phone who informed me that they didn't do reservations, and they closed on Christmas Eve at 6pm, and opened on Christmas Day at 4pm. That isn't a problem, but they really need to change their automated message. Had I not called to inquire about reservations, and spoke to an employee, we could have very well showed up much earlier, only to find the doors locked. In fact, when we arrived at 3:30pm, we sat in the car knowing we'd have a 30 minute wait, but we did see very confused crowds lining up at the door, trying the door, and knocking on the doors quite perplexed. Honestly, I hadn't expected Denny's in Cambridge to be so busy on Christmas Day, but the parking lot was full. Like I said, there were 14 of us, and although we weren't the first in line, we did manage to all sit together. Service was great, and I give high kudos to both the wait staff and the cooks (my husband and I split a breakfast platter that was made perfectly!). My stepdaughter ordered mozzarella cheese sticks and something else, but really enjoyed them! My sister in law and brother in law had nachos that looked very unappetizing, but I think overall, most were very happy with their food and service. Great job Denny's! I would equate it to a local "Denny's", the menu is largely breakfast oriented, along with other diner staples. I had a chicken sandwich with fries and slaw, my wife had a club sandwich with fries. The food is basic, but I was actually fully satisfied, with the preparation of our meals. The fries were hot and fresh, our sandwiches were well put together. Our server was a little odd at first, but warmed up as the "date" developed. She was effective and took good care of us, it was just that original vibe that had my wife a bit leery. Be prepared for the lemonade, it is tart (in a good way) but that first sip was a nice surprise, becuase so often diner lemonade is slightly cloudy sugar water. (Perfect for an MIB alien, not so great for me). We meant to take a picture of their long suffering leggy Dieffenbachia, The poor thing had a long thin stem (had been supported by various spikes and string). It may be too late to save it!
