We were hiking and site seeing late in the day and didn't get back to Banff until 8:30pm. This…read moreplace closes at 9pm so we called to see if we could still get in. They indicated as long as we were seated and ordered before 8:45pm, we would be ok so we headed up to the Silver Dragon. We ordered dumplings, fried rice, and an egg roll. The food came out quickly. There were two other tables finishing up so we didn't feel too rushed, although staff was clearly cleaning up to get ready to go home. We loved the rice and the dumplings were excellent. I wasn't as big a fan of the egg roll (loved the inside but didn't like the batter outside as much) but I liked the sauce that came with it. Portions were generous. The place was cutely decorated. Parking was easy but I could see parking being a bit of an issue on a really busy day. We were so grateful they could accommodate us so late. Hiking made us hungry!

Ambiance: 3/5 stars, your typical Chinese restaurant vibe. Nothing special that stands out…read more Service: 5/5 stars, our waiter (I believe his name was Sam) was very personable and funny. While the food did take a while to prepare (we did have a party of 8 and the dishes were cooked to all come out at once), Sam did come and check in with us. My family and I spoke Cantonese with him and he made turned our experience waiting into an entertaining banter session. Food: 4/5 stars. Coming from Southern California and eating tons of Chinese/Cantonese dishes growing up, Silver Dragon's food is solid on the authentic end. They do have some dishes that cater to more western tastes, based on what we saw on the menu, but if you're looking for authentic Chinese food in Banff this place surprisingly fulfilled that craving! Only miss is if you're looking for authentic Cantonese soups you sadly will not find that here. - Sweet and sour pork aka kingdom pork: crowd favorite, sauce was sweet and tangy, pork was not overcooked - Yangzhou fried rice: least favorite of all dishes, no wok hei, would not recommend or reorder - Guangzhou chow mein: okay, noodles were crispy but nothing special - Mapo tofu: in my opinion good amount of mala flavor, could use a bit more bean curd but otherwise delicious, one of the night's favorite dishes - Baby bok choy: great garlic flavor, classic dish - Tofu seafood clay pot: nothing bad to say, seafood was cooked well - Preserved vegetable steamed pork patties: perfectly cooked pork, juicy and flavorful! Glad that they had this dish available on the menu :) Overall if I happen to come back to Banff 100 percent would come back with my family. My family and I had great time both eating the food and interacting with staff!

We went to Signature Palace the other night with family to try their Hot Pot experience. It's…read morereally nice to sit in a group at a round table with each person with their own hotpot burner station . It has the settings of low , medium or high into the table top . You order the type of broth to use and then pick your types of meat to cook . It's really good tasty tender beef , lamb , pork etc rolled up like you get in Vietnamese soups . The 2 hour limit for dining starts when they bring out your broth in cooking pots per person . The assorted wall in the restaurant has all kinds of things to try ... while fresh prawns , mini chunks fish fillet , winter melon , lotus slices , lots of green veggies , broccoli , bamboo shoots , glass noodles , udon noodles , fish balls , and many choices . The beef and pork meats are brought out by the waiter to your table . Probably so people can't mix up the meats if at the buffet area . And a separate area that also serves cooked starter food while you wait for your pots of broth to arrive . It has crispy spring rolls , tasty mini ribs, shrimp chips , S&S pork belly chunks , sesame balls , mini buns with condense milk , canned peaches & fresh sliced sweet oranges etc . Another station has various items to make your own dip sauces ... cilantro , green onions , garlic , chili oils , hoisin sauce , tahini sauce , ginger , etc We really enjoyed the experience and I would do this again . They let you order separate dishes off a menu if one of you don't want to do hot pot. You just cannot eat or share food from those eating from the hot pot buffet... So nice we have a tasty Chinese food restaurant in our area and a hot pot option . We will be back & bring our friends to try this ..

Like most Chinese restaurants, the hole-in-the wall restaurants are always the best. It may not…read morelook very impressive from the outside, but the quality of food is outstanding. I noticed a lot of people picking up orders to-go, so at least give that a try if you're not particularly impressed by the dining environment. This was one of the best meals I had during my time in Calgary. - Soy sauce chicken: A lot of whole chickens I've eaten have been super dry, but this was not the case at all. It was really flavorful, especially when dipping it in the ginger/oil. - Shrimp triple delight: Fried shrimp with eggplant, green peppers, and tofu. There was so much shrimp, and the shrimp paired with tofu was my personal favorite because the tofu was extremely crispy. The green peppers had a nice crunch, and the eggplant was tasty too. - Crab, egg white, and shrimp on broccoli: This was one of my favorite dishes because I love every part of this dish! The egg white does a great job bringing in the crab meat and shrimp together, and there was a lot of seafood. The broccoli soaked up all the extra sauce, and was cooked well- still had a nice crunch but wasn't half raw. - Live crab and lobster on ginger fried rice: Such an impressive display! This dish was loaded with crab and lobster, SO good! The ginger fried rice paired nicely with the seafood. - Peking duck: You can never ever go wrong with peking duck. The duck was thinly sliced and so crispy. Wrap it up with a little bit of hoisin and it tasted heavenly. This restaurant is located in a strip mall and to be honest, does not have the most impressive exterior or interior... but the food certainly makes up for it. The staff members were all very polite, and you can tell they work hard to keep this restaurant going. Support a local business and try this place out!
