This is place is pretty great. Almost better than the Chinese place back home. The chicken was fresh, crab rangoon is the best. Only thing that I didn't like was that the buffet closes so early. If your looking for a nice quiet place to eat as a family then this place is for you. Definitely going to recommend this place to anyone in Springfield. read more

This little place was a very pleasant surprise. During lunch they offer a small and limited buffet. Although there are only a few entrees the food is good, fresh and hot. I particularly enjoyed the egg drop soup which was molten and took quite awhile to cool sufficiently to avoid second degree lip burns (that's the way it should be). It was also thick and eggy -- also the way it should be. The chicken dishes were made with nice tender pieces of white chicken and the vegetables were hot and crisp. The sweet and sour sauce was tangy and contained chunks of green pepper and pineapple... it wasn't the red canned syrup you find in many Chinese buffets. You can also buy a variety of menu items which are also delicious. For the price and quality this place is not often rivaled here in the Ozarks. I'll be back. read more

Every time we stop in it is amazing. Great food. Great service. We usually get the meal which includes rice, or you can substitute noodles, with crab Rangoon and egg roll. If you eat inside you can also enjoy the salad bar and egg drop soup! The soup is Almost a mix of chicken noodle and egg drop. SUPER AMAZING! Oh and the crab Rangoon is the best I've ever had. It's super fluffy inside with warm sweet and sour sauce so good. We've always gotten the general tso with the veggies. It's great! We go here often because you'll crave all of their food. Fast and Friendly. Drink sizes are small but that's my only complaint. They do everything else right. We always order sweet n sour or cashew chicken and it is always crispy with the perfect amount of sauce to keep the batter from getting soggy. The egg rolls have perfect proportion of ingredients. And, the rice is as it should be without peas and carrots. Thank goodness, it is just wrong to put peas and carrots in the rice. Springfield is truly a land of knick knack cashew chicken joints where the streets are littered with different Chinese options. It is easy to overlook them or write them off as the same. I have actually been on a bit of a journey trying our local Chinese concoctions and Chinese Chef has risen well above many of the forgotten places. If I have spent any time away from home this is one of the first things I lust for when I return. I have been frequenting Chinese Chef regularly for a few years now, and have thoroughly traversed the menu. Some dishes that have been particularly memorable have been the Beef Pepper Steak, the General's Chicken, the Fried Rice, and the Moo Goo Gai Pan. The veggies that accompany these dishes are remarkably fresh and plentiful. In general the sauces on many of their items are thicker, deeper, and more complex than what I have experienced at other Chinese venues. Their fried rice has a rich flavor, is nicely dotted with egg bits, and is deep brown in color meaning it spent more time being lovingly tossed around the wok. The beef pepper steak is a sea of tender meat with many substantial slices of peppers and onions floating about. If you are a lush for peppers this is a great dish. The Moo Goo Gai Pan has really unique cuts of vegetables including cucumber, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts. I recommend adding some spice to the last two dishes for full enjoyment. All in all this place is really solid. The staff is genuinely friendly and provides you with a seemingly more authentic experience. The food comes out fairly quickly despite the drive thru's sometimes long line of cars snaking around the building. Typically the dinning room is nearly vacant, and eating in means you get to enjoy the fresh cut green onions, hot soup, or salad from the interior bar. Like many other Chinese places in town, this one is inexpensive but it doesn't taste cheap like many of the other forgotten places. read more

Recently went on a Cashew Chicken (White meat) tasting tour - I found this to be third behind Canton Inn (1st) and Hong Kong Inn. The cashew chicken here reminds me of the sort of fried chicken you would get in a home style "American" restaurant, or best case scenario trip to KFC - with excellent sauce on it. For me that was not a good thing. The coating on the chicken and the taste of the grease was strong and almost ruined that great sauce! I didn't care much for the egg roll and the crab rangoon wasn't too bad but to me it just tasted like someone scooped straight cream cheese from a supermarket brick into the wonton wrapper to make it, adding nothing else. I liked the portion size, it was perfect for me, but I thought it was a small portion compared to most competitors in the area. My husband raved about his lo mein and vegetables, and he went for the large portion which was definitely a lot of food for the money. So our experience was a mixed bag. The entry, counter, and restrooms were clean but all of the tables we tried were pretty sticky/dirty at our lunchtime visit and there weren't a lot of diners here. I think it would be nice if they offered an option for a smaller, cheaper cup of egg drop soup instead of a large bowl. It wasn't bad, but I don't think it stacks up to other options for Chinese in Springfield, despite all of the Cashew Craze awards posted at the counter. read more

The food is usually great, as long as they can get your order to you correctly. I have gone home with the wrong order from this restaurant more times than I care to recall. On my last visit, I got all the way home before I realized the mistake (you'd think I would have learned to double check my order from here, but alas...), so I drove all the way back. They knew what was wrong as soon as they saw me walk in, apologized, and went ahead to get me the right food - or so I thought. I ordered Kung Pao VEGGIES initially, but when they gave me my order for the second time, they had given me the Kung Pao CHICKEN. As a vegetarian, this would not work for me, so the order got sent back again. It took nearly 30 minutes to get me my correct order, and the only thing they offered me for my trouble and extra time were some free fortune cookies. You're better off going to the New Chinese Chef on Enterprise. The service is always so much better at the Enterprise location; plus, they don't charge you for fortune cookies. read more

Now my husband, mom, and other family members have been there and love it too.It's probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in Springfield. I've never been disappointed with anything that I've ordered. Their flavor as well as quality of food is awesome. The cashew chicken is your normal Springfield style which is good, the hot and spicy chicken is definitely hot and spicy for me, sweet and sour is yummy, kung pao chicken is very good if you want something that is not fried, and the crab rangoon is delicious! The price is really good for the amount of food you get and the quality. This is definitely somewhere I would recommend to anyone coming to Springfield looking for some good Chinese food.
