My husband and I decided to go for an early Valentine's Day lunch celebration and I chose Chinatown for our destination because I had had some great Sweet-and-Sour Pork there before on their lunch menu and wanted to have that again. We were disappointed when we arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon and there was no lunch menu-- we were given the full dinner menu with the full prices! Nonetheless, we ordered an appetizer to share, the Pot Stickers, and we each ordered the Garlic Shrimp as our entrée at $18 each. Our server was pleasant and as attentive as she could be given that she was the only server and they had her running around pretty good. While we were waiting for our food, we remarked that we both liked the decor of the restaurant with its red and black interior and distinctive Chinese design. This is maybe when we should've ditched. We first received our Pot Stickers appetizer, which arrived hot and sizzling, which I will say with enthusiasm was pretty darn good! We had high hopes for our entrées after this. We shouldn't have gotten our hopes up. After what seemed like a long while they arrived. Two plates of ?? what the hell was this stuff ? We recognized the shrimp and the rice but not much else. Okay it was two rather smallish plates with a load of rice topped with some shrimp and very mushy broccoli at each of the four corners. That was it. This broccoli was so mushy I could have eaten it with no teeth! That was the only vegetable. Every other Chinese restaurant in town makes Garlic Shrimp with a variety of vegetables in it! You know...crispy vegetables, cooked in a wok. And the sauce... Was there any? This dish was so bland and tasteless! There didn't appear to be any sauce in it. We both left hungry and $56 later because they wouldn't comp the bill at all after we complained! Did they run out of garlic? Did they run out of vegetables? Whether they ran out of either or both they did run out of two customers because we will never return and they get a bad review in return! read more

It had been a while since we've stopped here for dinner a while visiting Mansfield. Our last visit didn't go very well; however, this visit was a grand improvement! We chose to sit in the lounge in a four top booth. Our waitress was attentive this go around bringing our meal came out as requested! We decided on something a little different, the pu pu platter and extra eggrolls while my wife ordered a bowl of their Chinese chicken noodle soup. It all came out perfectly! The chicken noodle soup was huge! We ended up taking over half home. The pu pu platter was delicious and colorful! Our drinks were superb as they always are here! So happy for the rebound! read more

There are Many Great tasting Chinese dishes shown on the menu , and of those that we have tried ......ALL were excellent ! ( my favorite , egg Fu yung with extra gravy ) But I feel that you will be happy with whichever dish you choose ! The waitstaff is extremely cordial , and refill both your hot and cold drinks promptly ! The ambiance is delightful , and the tables always spotlessly clean . The dining area May get a bit louder than usual when the restaurant is at capacity during lunch and dinner hours , however nothing That is blatantly NOISY ! All in all ... in my opinion , you will find your visit to be a wonderful dining experience ! read more

The service is great here but the food is terrible. We ordered pot stickers that were clearly a frozen product. I ordered what was supposed to be Kung Pao Beef. There is not supposed to be celery, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, baby corn and a gloopy brown sauce in Kung Pao Beef. My companion got a salad which was served with a literal bottle of store bought salad dressing. That's insane. If you are t even going to make your own dressing, at least put it in a little side cup. So this place is has been here since I was little...a long time ago, and it is still so good! Since moving out of the Mansfield area, I have not been there in a long time but I was just there over the weekend and everything was yummy! Service was great, we had a large party of 14 and they took great care of us. The total bill was not as much as I would have expected for that many people. Family owned, and the family is always there running the place. We enjoyed the buffet for fathers day, and also ordered from the menu. I like that the general tso's is made from chicken breast pieces, not the generic pre made ready to fry chunks. Egg rolls are fresh and served to order. Salad on the buffet had pieces of pineapple, different and enjoyable. Really enjoyed the bacon fried rice. My opinion is order off the menu, to get the fresh made dish of your choice and share with your lunch/dinner friends. read more

I ADORE this beautiful Mom-Pops Chinese restaurant. The best, fresh food every single time, served piping hot. Not like it has been sitting under "warmers". Nope, not this classy place. Maynar and King are so much fun and work very hard. It's why I love to pop in ether for carry-out or dine in. Cozy bar with low lighting, traditional Chinese decor. I had the Beef Stir fry- I am an extremely picky eater ( including some allergies) - without getting into every detail - the owner was so polite and this was an outstanding lunch that helped get me through an extremely long drive back to New Jersey. Honestly just not good. Crab Rangoon just tasted like onion and came with a very watery sweet and sour sauce. The mandarin chicken also came in some sort of watery marinade without much actual flavor besides salt. The rice portion was extremely tiny compared to the chicken and was super dry. read more

The fact that I left hungry should be very telling. For $7.50 I received an ice cream scoop of rice, an egg foo young patty so thin I could see through it and a three inch egg roll. Nothing but the egg roll was hot. The food was tasteless and drab. Soy did not help. Hot mustard did not help. My wine glass of water was never refilled. The server while nice was obviously oblivious to how terrible the food was and the laughable portion size. Top it all off, there was flying insects this early in spring in the restaurant. Another fabulous meal at Chinatown! I sat at the bar and gladly used their wifi. There was a tv on in the bar area to help me stay up on the current news events. The lady who waits on me every time I believe is the owners daughter. She is always friendly and makes genuine conversation. She suggested the Hong Kong Steak for my lunch. Top notch. I felt like I truly was living high in the hog today. The meat was fork tender and all the veggies were perfect. I started out with one of their famous egg rolls; never greasy and full of flavor. This was the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at. Been a server for 20+ years and worst service I've received anywhere. I asked the server. Because i didn't see it on the menu anywhere. If they had any szucheann shrimp. Well i got shrimp that was in a tan colored gravy. With a couple red peppers on top. The lo mein was soggy spaghetti. My stomach actually turned when trying to eat it. They did replace it when I asked what that tan colored turkey gravy was on my lo mein. So then I got general tso. With plain white rice. Well it was somewhat better. But by then. I was over the whole experience. The waitress a middle aged blonde. With a bad attitude and terrible customer service. My favorites, the Chefs Special Fried Rice, Wor Su Gai, And Sweet and Sour Pork are AMAZING. Appetizer wise you have to try the Egg Rolls and Pot Stickers. First I will say that you cannot beat the egg rolls anywhere at Chinatown. We can and do make a meal of just egg rolls with, of course, the sweet and sour sauce. They are the best around! Now for a little critique. The other dishes are a crap shoot. Sometimes they are good, other times they are flavorless. I don't know why. There is no amount of soy sauce or salt that will help. Sometimes they are spectacular. I don't know if it is a particular cook or what, but we never know what we are going to get. That being said, we continue to go back because we love the egg rolls and sometimes we take a chance on chicken chow mein or sweet and sour chicken or one of the other dishes and just hope it has flavor. read more

Overall I was happy with my meal. I ordered General Tso's Chicken with fried rice, an egg roll and a cup of Wonton soup. The entree was the star of the meal. Traditionally it's made with dark meat but they used chunks of white chicken with a very light breading. The sweet and spicy sauce was delicious, and the broccoli was perfectly steamed. The Wonton soup was fine, nothing special. My egg roll came unwrapped in the fryer so it was filled with oil. read more
