If you're craving Chinese food I guess it's your only okay-ish option in FDL. Their coconut shrimp is good when freshly made. The owner here tries to stretch the food to last as long as possible. I've seen the guy come out with some type of liquid and rehydrates the food every so often. Demolishes the taste not good. How the buffet was rated 3 stars is beyond me. In a word, it was gross. The food was aged and not fresh. It was obvious that much of it had been sitting in the steam table too long. And the items on the steam table were lukewarm at best. From the checkout counter you can see the kitchen, disorganized and unkempt. There was no one even making any fresh food. The final straw was the bill. We had water for drinks. The bill came to $20.00 for two buffet meals. A typical price but too much to pay for the privilege of eat stale cold food. All the veggies are mushy wet as of pre bolied for soup. Apparently someone is still so lazy over there that they think whenever ordering egg fu youg w/shrimp or house special egg Fu young it means cooking the eggs and throwing the other ingredients in the box on top of the patties instead of the other way around. That is astonishing lazy. Whoever is cooking in that kitchen is not the same people that used to be there. There's too many discrepancies. No comparison. What's a guy from the North Shore of Oahu doing in Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin? Fon Du - Where? (Sigh...) Months after this trip, I'm still asking myself that question. Just my luck, I had to go there, with some coworkers, for my job. Every morning after that trip, I kept waking up in a state of panic, "it's okay, you're home now." Fortunately, aside from the farms, cows, grain silos, cows... (you get the picture), there was one thing good that came from this trip. As you can imagine, being in Wisconsin for more than a couple of days, I had a severe case of "rice deficiency." It must be karma, because Chinatown Kitchen is located directly across the street from the hotel. There are only a handful of places I can think of, that have really good tasting authentic Chinese food, and this place definitely ranks up there with the best. We didn't do the buffet that's advertised on their sign, rather we decided to order take-out. We took the advice from a hotel worker that the buffet is not that great. The take out dishes are made up fast, hot and fresh. The vegetables in the dishes are fresh, tasty and the meat-to-veggie ratio is better than most places. Honestly, I was content to have steamed hot white rice, "grains of white fluffy love." The food is really good, they don't use msg and the guy at the counter is super friendly. He was really helpful when trying to decide what to get. The first time we ate there, we didn't order ahead, but the food, still, was cooked up fast. On the down side, the dining area in the restaurant could have been a little more pleasing, it was clean, but definitely could be decorated a little more like a Chinese restaurant, and the techno music, seriously? Overall, I gave this place 5 stars based on the really good food and excellent customer service, not so much for dining in the restaurant. Wow! Not a huge fan of this place but when it comes to Chinese food there aren't a lot of options in Fond du Lac nowadays. The place is better for carry out than for their buffet. The dining room really needs a deep cleaning, and a facelift and the food on the buffet is pretty sub par. Angry at the deceptive way I was charged for 2 lunch buffets. The posted hours for lunch buffet prices are until 3:30 pm........we arrived at 3:23 as recorded on our receipt. We were charged for the dinner buffet price. When I asked the cashier about that she said something about '' we raise the price at 3:20 when it's not busy " WTF ! This will be the LAST time we will visit this restaurant.
