The menu is huge and the food is superb. My only complaint is that their hot tea costs $4 which I find a little excessive -- for a pitcher of hot water and a Walmart brand tea bag. Still, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Asian delicacies of all kinds.

We have tried quite a few dishes and so far all were packed with a lot of flavor!! The egg rolls - super crispy, fried right and delicious. The salt and pepper fish - this one is by far my favorite dish out of all. They had a wonderful crispy coating and were tossed with fresh peppers and the right amount of seasoning. The treasures chicken, beef and shrimp hot pot was hearty and so comforting with tender meat and tasty broth. The Mongolian beef, chicken, and shrimp - was really well-made as well with tender pieces of meat and savory sauce and all these three dishes above married well with the hot, steamed rice that they served with it. I also tried the seafood noodle dish with the white sauce, which had shrimp, fish, mushroom, vegetable noodles, and egg. This one was pretty unique and one of the highlights. It was gooey chewy and all the ingredients tasted well together in a light savory white sauce. This particular one was so comforting that I kept going back to this one for another bite. I love that this restaurant has a lot more dishes to offer and that their portion sizes are huge. The pricing is very reasonable as per the portions with most of the entrees in the range of $16 - $18 with seafood costing a little more. The service has always been very friendly but be sure to dine in way before closing time or the staff might tell you to take a to-go 30-45 mins before closing. Otherwise the restaurant has a very casual relaxed feel to enjoy with family and friends. I still have so much left to try but based on everything I've had so far I definitely recommend Hong Kong star to all Chinese food lovers!!

It was the only truly decent place to get food in Tonganoxie. One thing I loved was that their food was always made fresh. I never purchased food from them that have been sitting. First of all the location is in a pretty decent spot I wish it were more visible from the street. It's situated on an incline and it's right near a highway so if you're going over the highway, you won't be able to see it very well. That's the only bad thing about it. The decor inside is very culturally present. The staff are extremely friendly and it got to a point that they knew who my mother and I were considering at that time we were one a few African-Americans who lived in the area. I hadn't been there since my mom passed away in 2019. I was on work related business and I looked over and seen it and decided I would stop there before heading home. It was like coming home again. We shared the chicken fried rice and a starter sampler, and everything was absolutely delicious! The chicken in the fried rice was generously sized, incredibly tender, and full of flavor. I have eaten here on a couple different occasions and I was not disappointed. The quality of the food is consistent and not varied from each visit. The portion sizes are acceptable and not too small or too big. The Crab Rangoon, Egg Rolls, Spring Rolls, Fried Rice, Beef LO Mien, Beef and Broccoli, and General Tso's are all really good. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give the quality and taste of the food an 8. The restaurant is very small, but it's extremely clean and you can watch all the food prep from the dinning room / lobby (always a plus). The staff are friendly and clearly family. If ordering takeout, it's really fast. A normal expectation would be having your takeout ready in about 10 minutes from phone ordering. Overall, I would recommend giving this place a try.
