My family had just moved to Chesapeake, VA from Long Island New York. Although we had been told by many locals that good Chinese food is not easily found here, we decided to give China Sun a try because of Google reviews. This China Sun take out is located on Hanbury Rd. This establishment is primarily for take out orders. I must say we were pleasantly surprised when we opened our orders. For the price, we got a lot of food! So much, in fact, we had enough for lunch the next day for the three of us! More importantly, the food tasted amazing. So many people recommend this place so I finally decided to check it out. I ordered when I arrived but most people seem to call in orders and give a number to the guy at the counter for their pickup. Inside, it's an efficient kitchen and they have everything down to a system. You can pick up your own utensils and condiments on your way out. I ordered the garlic chicken dinner combo that comes with an egg roll and fried rice. I also ordered the hot and sour soup and crab Rangoon. My overall take is the taste is "ok". I feel the dishes are all made to "not offend". So my garlic chicken was considered a spicy dish. But it really isn't. It's tasty though with a nice mix of vegetables. The egg roll had no taste, however. And the duck sauce packets on the way out have no taste as well, so they didn't help. The crab Rangoon were decent and definitely good with the sweet sauce that comes with it. The hot and sour soup was also sort of bland. It was slightly sour and slightly hot. But the taste just wasn't there for me and fell flat. So I give them 3 stars for decent but somewhat lacking in flavor on most of the dishes. read more

We were coming back one night from somewhere and everyone in our party was starving. We were actually heading to Harris Teeter to find something to put together quickly to feed the hungry children, but then I saw CS. I thought, Chinese food, it's always usually quick! So we headed there instead. We walked in to a typical Chinese takeout set up. There are faded photos of their dishes on the wall and a large menu that is on the right wall. I felt it was hard to see because of the fridge in the way, but they have printed ones on the counter. The menu is extensive like in most Chinese take out places. There are combo meals and à la carte sizes. For our party of 9, we ordered: - Sesame chicken - Kung Pao chicken - I thought Kung Pao was a spicy dish, but this one wasn't. - Beef Broccoli - Orange chicken - House special Lo Mein - Lo mein (noodles only) - this was for the tiny human picky eaters in our group - white rice and fried rice Everything was made to order so it was hot and fresh. The portions were a good size. All in all, I would say everything was good from taste, timing to service. I was a little skeptical when ordering since the price on the menu is so low, I was nervous quality would be poor, however We were very pleasantly surprised. Idk why I even try new places. This place is worth the 40 minute drive from my house. Everything I've ordered has been steaming hot and delicious. Love the general tso, low mein, roast pork and vegetable, chicken and vegetables, spring roll, bbq spare ribs etc. Right now they're still open, which is amazing. They take payment by phone and have your order ready when you come in. No contact, they leave you with pen to sign and you take the food and go. The lunch specials are great portions and filling. We ordered takeout for dinner this evening. We called it in and picked it up 10 minutes later. We ordered $32 worth of food. Let me say this..the most delicious food we ordered was the egg drop soup. Their seafood lo mein was anything but tasty. There was absolutely no taste, hubby ordered the pu pu platter and everything was covered in grease. We also ordered the roasted pork with snow peas and that was actually descent. It doesn't help a bit that when I was there picking up the food, I witnessed a customer bring back some food in a to go container that had a "rock" inside. I eat at China Sun once a week. They rule. The food is good, the service is typical. You can see straight into the kitchen - they have about 4 or 5 people cooking at a time which is great and means your food never takes longer than 15 minutes. Highly recommend them. Heads up though they are closed on Mondays and at this point in time they are still not doing dine in. read more

I often go to this location. Luckily, I keep track of my credit card charges. The amount I approved on the credit card slip is NOT what they charged me. After I left, they added an additional 5.00 tip to the receipt. This, a 9.00 meal became a 14.00 meal. I called and addressed it and who I spoke to didn't seem surprised. He tried to ask me for my card number again, and I wasn't giving it to him. I told him that they could give me a 5.00 credit, which he did. Great food and great prices, but be cautious of what you are charged. After you sign the credit card receipt, you don't get another copy. I'm guessing at the end of the night, they're adding tips in and closing out with those at the end of the night. My authorization from my bank and receipt matched my amount. But it was not what they closed out the receipt as at the end of the night. read more

China Sun - General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special $7 - Chinese Near Me - Chesapeake, Virginia

I have been living in the 23320 area for about 6years now and I haven't found another Chinese place where "everything" I ordered tastes good. I typically order: General Tao's combo, hot and sour soup, and sweet & sour chicken; depending on which mood I'm in. GTC: it's spicy but your lips aren't burning. You can taste the flavors and they are well rounded, nothing is out doing the other as far as crunch or spice. You can tell that the sauce has been simmering all day and not just thrown on top of the chicken. The pork rice is slightly more moist than other places and again flavors have all been developed over time, not just put together at the last minute. Hot&Sour: the tofu are cut in 1/4" to maybe 1/2" cubes which is nice because soup should be able to be eaten with a spoon! It's hot but comfortably hot. Also, they use very little celery or bamboo so there isn't a ton of chewing on crunchy stuff which again soup should feel like soup. Your lips will become warm if you eat enough of it but if you're chapped I would say maybe try it another time. Sweet&Sour Chicken: the pieces are definitely bite sized. You aren't going to find tenders in here! Although they are cut smaller than most other places they aren't soaking or dripping in oil. They are light and always fluffy with a nice crunch outside. Only downside is they don't offer delivery but it's worth the drive because they will have your food ready fast. They always tell me about 10-15mins but it's always ready before then and even during lunch and dinner hours! You won't be disappointed! read more

"15 minute ok" The food has always been fresh for us and their shrimp egg rolls are really good. The only reason I give it three stars is because it just does not compare to the Chinese take out back home in Florida, but it will do for now. I picked up my order and was surprised to see several different large bowls with different kinds of meat sitting on the prep line while the employees were rushing making orders. As I was waiting I watched two different employees, not wearing gloves, grab meat and then veggies and start cooking. I couldn't believe the disregard for cross contamination I saw in just the 5-7 minutes waiting in line. Not to mention raw meat sitting out in a hot kitchen growing god knows what on it.
