    Take out beef chow fun
    Robert G.

Monday night, held hostage in a hotel, and driving around and the wife and I have the craving for take out Chinese. Saw this place on Yelp and decided to try it. I ordered the Beef Chow Fun (Beef with Wide Chinese Noodles, stir fried in a soy sauce, usually with green onions), Steamed Dumplings, and the wife ordered Hot & Sour Soup. The food was ready in about 10 minutes and was ready when we arrived at the location which is near the Holiday Inn Express. The interior is your standard take out Chinese Joint with a few tables and chairs with the same decor you have probably seen in others. The lady behind the counter was really nice and I had no problem with the service. The Beef Chow Fun wasn't bad, it wasn't the best I've had, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't memorable, but its take out Chinese, not Forgotten City. The only complaint I had was the Chow Fun had carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, and cabbage in it like a stir fry. Seemed a little odd from what I'm used to overseas. The steamed dumplings rock that super thick wrapper that is popular in the USA, which I don't care for too much. The dumplings are basically huge steamed meat bombs and an order comes with 8 and the dipping sauce isn't bad. They hit the spot but like the Chow Fun, not great, not bad, edible and filling. The wife did not like the Hot & Sour Soup that much, honestly, I can't stand the stuff myself at all. I think my dishes were better than her's but our palettes are completely different. Worth getting if you are at the Holiday Inn Express and stuck and not wanting to venture out.

    Fried dumplings

Well, I'm staying in the area for a couple months, and really had a craving for some Chinese. As we all know, it can be hard to find a good spot thats reliable. This seemed to have a "love-it-or-hate-it" amount of reviews, so I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot I ordered a General Tso combo (extra spicy) with pork fried rice, and an order of fried dumplings. The chicken, as noted by a few other yelpers had a lot of breading. It seemed to be limited to the smaller pieces, so not a huge deal. The chicken was hot and moist, and there was plenty of sauce, but it was not spicy at all. The dumplings appeared to be commercially made, and while slightly pan fried, they really lacked the crunch I'm used to. I phoned in my order, and picked it up in the restaurant. My order wasn't ready when I arrived, so I paid and took a seat while I waited. The tables all seemed to need a good wiping down, and mine was slightly stickey. I wouldn't suggest dining in. Overall, the food was decent, but I think I'd try another spot before I went back here.

Hong Kong being the best and my friends family restaurant The Canton being a very close second. This is the second time I've eaten Ching Tao since it changed ownership and the second time I've seen a drastic change in the quality of their food. The difference is night and day. The new owner did what all stupid people do when they buy a great restaurant and trade what made it so great for more money. Such a stupid, STUPID move. He dropped the ball big time and if he doesn't change back right now, it's the beginning of the end for this once outstanding restaurant. I'm sorry. I've eaten this food since I was a kid and I'm 55 now. Trust me when I say what I say. The egg rolls are smaller and pre- cooked or pre cooked even more so when you get them now they're almost burnt and crusty. Not only that they're considerably smaller. I've ordered them on both occasions and they were exactly the same. The best egg rolls on the island by far are close to mall food quality now. I also got the General Tso's chicken. It's half breading now and falls apart on the fork before you can get it into your mouth. I was blown away at the reduction in size of the chicken, the change from chicken breast to thigh meat and doesn't taste half as good as it did. That's all I got the last two times I've eaten there so thats all I can give an opinion on but I'll guarantee everything's changed there in one way or another in the name of the all mighty dollar. I won't be going there again and it makes me genuinely sad. I'm going to miss that place.

The focus here is ramen, with a small lineup of appetizers and a surprisingly good selection of sakes by the glass or bottle (not just the little cans you see elsewhere). They can prepare many items gluten free, and if you're unsure about your spice tolerance, you can get the chili oil on the side, which is a nice touch. This was what ramen was made for. I walked in feeling (and looking) like Jack Frost. Only the brave were venturing about, so the restaurant was minimally packed and we were seated immediately. Szechuan cauliflower? Yes please. I would come back here for that cauliflower alone and order three servings of it. It was perfectly crispy and smothered in spicy sauce. The miso ramen broth was flavorful and spicy. Just what I was looking for. They used brown rice noodles which had a consistency that I would describe as slightly clumpy and with a different taste than traditional noodles. The rest of the toppings were as expected. The interior was very well decorated and felt upscale. It was a nice experience dining here.

The RI Food Fights TacoMania competition & tourist season starting to slow got us over the bridge to try early on a Saturday evening. Arriving just after opening, we had our choice of tables in an empty room. That was a good thing since, by the time we left, the place was jamming! The server, who was welcoming, enthusiastic about the menu & and handled the ever-growing crowd on his own, told us that we could always call ahead for a table. Good to know since we didn't see a way to reserve. The little place is comfy & lovely! The decor perfectly suits the Newport scene and includes a welcoming food bar area that would be perfect for enjoying their international tapa-like street-food inspired offerings. A small patio is available to overlook Memorial Blvd in nicer weather. While they do not have a liquor license, you are welcome to BYOB and we did, finding the $3 per person corkage fee very fair. Now, about the food... WOW! What a explosion of fun flavors! With choices of snacks from around the world, you can jump from one intense palate to another, over and over. Three of us shared five small dishes & one large and we loved them all. The Nduja Shrimp Dumplings were delicate and fresh and loaded with flavor. The tacos that we were here to judge were fantastic. The pork was juicy & flavorful, and, though we were afraid the vegetable tacos would be boring - they were anything but. We'd eat these all the time! Bravas Frites were a fun twist on traditional Spanish Patatas Bravas, using fries as a base rather than cubed potatoes. Again, delicious! But, our favorite of the small plates had to be the Brussel Sprouts. We almost didn't get them as they've been so over-done, but felt vegetable guilt & threw them in. OMG - the best prep of these tiny cabbages ever! Finally, the pièce de résistance was the Lobster Fried Rice - a perfect way to top it all off. Buttery, umami & loaded with chunks of fresh lobster meat, my mouth waters now just thinking it. So glad we finally stopped here. A great Tacomania contender and we can't wait to return to eat our way through the rest of the menu!

My review is not favorable but I think knowing this is a Pasta Beach effort - it will be a hit in a few months. It is in the original Pasta Beach spot next to a Dunkin' Donuts for whatever reason is open late at night. The positives - plenty of nearby street parking, modern and cozy space, and very good staff. I should mention that after we ordered, our 5 appetizers arrived starting in 5 minutes and all were served within 10 minutes. We did screw up by forgetting we were at BYOB. OK - the killer - the food. Of the 5 appetizers we ordered only one was a winner! That was the Brussel sprouts which were outstanding and a large portion. All the other dishes were about the right size for sharing by 2. Realize they are striving for "fusion" but they missed it on the pulled pork dumplings. The lamb skewers were a struggle to eat - tough (and certainly could not be eaten off the skewers) - but the saving grace was the dipping sauce. The big failures were the prosciutto croquettes - a real mess with a sliver of meat on top of mainly onions - and OMG - the Korean chicken wings. The latter came slathered with a sticky and spicy, sweet, red sauce (too hot for my wife) and some sort of dipping sauce. A mess to eat. We had to request paper towels and dip in our water to clean up. Damages with tip was $90 and we only had a tea and sparkling water. They are sweet but not overly so, and go very well with any dish you order. We also love the spring rolls, mango fresh rolls, and our favorite, the curry puffs. They are flakey and filled with sweet/savory vegetable flavors. Of course we also get the edamame because it's a nice little snack. Entrees: my current favorite is the malay noodle soup, it comes out steaming hot and is so creamy and filling. There is plenty of beef and wonderful steamed broccoli that soaks up the flavor of the soup. I also love the Rad Na, which is an assortment of steamed vegetables in a gravy-like curry. This one is perfect for colder months, since it really warms you up. My bf has gotten various curries and the vermicelli trio which he has enjoyed very much as well.
