My go too since our favorite Chinese closed after a fire. This is a little "hole in the wall" on a busy road. Pleanty of seating and friendly staff. I use online order and it is a fairly simple process. The spring rolls are crispy and tasty, often made with not only cabbage but a bit of mushroom. The Curry chicken is tender and flavorful. Been living on the island since 2018 and I used to go to Ching Tao but they changed their food or something and ever since Covid I've been going to China star and I love it! They're so nice when you order the service is great whether you're doing pickup or having it delivered. We have been ordering for delivery for more than year. The food is always hot with big portions, . .often we have two meals from our orders. Delivery is fast. The food is good. My husband especially likes the roast pork fried rice. I like the vegetable lo mein. We frequently order a combination plate. The eggrolls are the only thing I am not fond of. I prefer the Spring rolls. The little packets of sauce for the eggrolls or Spring rolls is a major complaint. It has no flavor, and is a waste of the little plastic package it comes in. The little packets of soy sauce are tasteless, too. We use our kikoman soy sauce from home, and my sauce for the Spring rolls. I especially like, too, the hot and sour soup, which may be too spicy for some. I would certainly recommend China Star II ***One delivery man always brings a treat for our schnoodles. The food is OK. What really bothers me is the delivery service. As I was waiting for my small order to arrive it got to be about 20 minutea past the anticipated delivery time. I was just getting ready to call when my phone rang. I thought it might be the delivery driver, but was shocked when it was a gentleman that lives down the street from me that I don't know. He explained that he had my food as it was delivered to him and he accepted as he was also waiting for chinese delivery. The only way he was able to let me know was the fact that my number and address was on the reciept. We called to report the situation to the restaraunt and they asked if we got our food. We told them, "Yes, but that's not the point. It was delivered to a wrong address, handled by somebody else and brought into their house." Their response was,"Well, you got your food." Monday night, held hostage in a hotel, and driving around and the wife and I have the craving for take out Chinese. Saw this place on Yelp and decided to try it. I ordered the Beef Chow Fun (Beef with Wide Chinese Noodles, stir fried in a soy sauce, usually with green onions), Steamed Dumplings, and the wife ordered Hot & Sour Soup. The food was ready in about 10 minutes and was ready when we arrived at the location which is near the Holiday Inn Express. The interior is your standard take out Chinese Joint with a few tables and chairs with the same decor you have probably seen in others. The lady behind the counter was really nice and I had no problem with the service. The Beef Chow Fun wasn't bad, it wasn't the best I've had, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't memorable, but its take out Chinese, not Forgotten City. The only complaint I had was the Chow Fun had carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, and cabbage in it like a stir fry. Seemed a little odd from what I'm used to overseas. The steamed dumplings rock that super thick wrapper that is popular in the USA, which I don't care for too much. The dumplings are basically huge steamed meat bombs and an order comes with 8 and the dipping sauce isn't bad. They hit the spot but like the Chow Fun, not great, not bad, edible and filling. The wife did not like the Hot & Sour Soup that much, honestly, I can't stand the stuff myself at all. I think my dishes were better than her's but our palettes are completely different. One of my absolute favorite Chinese restaurants. I haven't tried a single thing I didn't like. I love their sweet and sour chicken but their beef with broccoli is NEXT LEVEL. Legitimately the best beef with broccoli I've ever had, and it tastes even better the next day for leftovers! How is that possible? The broccoli is always cooked perfectly - it isn't soggy like most other places and has a the perfect amount of crunch. Their beef lo mein noodles are fantastic as well. Love this place. read more

Well, I'm staying in the area for a couple months, and really had a craving for some Chinese. As we all know, it can be hard to find a good spot thats reliable. This seemed to have a "love-it-or-hate-it" amount of reviews, so I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot I ordered a General Tso combo (extra spicy) with pork fried rice, and an order of fried dumplings. The chicken, as noted by a few other yelpers had a lot of breading. It seemed to be limited to the smaller pieces, so not a huge deal. The chicken was hot and moist, and there was plenty of sauce, but it was not spicy at all. The dumplings appeared to be commercially made, and while slightly pan fried, they really lacked the crunch I'm used to. I phoned in my order, and picked it up in the restaurant. My order wasn't ready when I arrived, so I paid and took a seat while I waited. The tables all seemed to need a good wiping down, and mine was slightly stickey. I wouldn't suggest dining in. Overall, the food was decent, but I think I'd try another spot before I went back here. read more

My favorite Chinese takeout in the region, I eat regularly from their lunch special menu. Good prices, large portions, flavorful sauces - their kitchen knows what it's doing. Of special interest these days, they recently reopened after shutting down due to the pandemic. I have to say I am more impressed with their modifications to prevent community spread of the virus than with any other business I have visited: tables pushed aside to prevent seating, of course; a full, counter to ceiling plexiglass barrier between staff/kitchen and customers with a small opening for food and payments; two cups of pens, one clean for signing and one to put the used ones in; hand sanitizer for customer use; and counter staff wearing both masks and gloves. Oh - and the garlic sauce, rice, and spring rolls are still delicious. read more

Just ordered today, 6.3.12 after reading this last review. I live in Mass. and wish I had read the review I am about to give before I ordered. There is a lot of mediocre to crappy Chinese food up near Boston but I think this is where Yelp can help... If everyone honestly reviewed these places and then also read reviews before ordering, bad places would go out of business...and better places would eventually pop up and stay in business...unfortunately this is not one of those better places. The Good The Pork Fried Rice was really good-it saved the meal. Don't get me wrong, it's greasy, but it has fresh onions and ample pork for flavoring. If I lived close by I would just get this rice a few times a year. The Bad Chicken Fingers are so over battered that one piece barely had any chicken in it at all. I love Chicken Fingers, but these were 85% barely eddible but 15% of the fingers were passable. It's weird that they weren't all bad, but 85% is a terrible ratio. Boneless Spareribs. A little of it was ok, but most of it seemed overcooked and/or way too fatty even by spareribs The Ugly The battered shrimp were gross. The health dept should check these out...no redeeming part. The Wontons have meat in them, which I guess is how some places do them. I am not huge on Wontons but this place just seems to put way to much batter on everything and the meat tastes like anchovies (not good). We saved the egg rolls if we get starving. Very good Chinese take-out food. I've been going here for a couple of years. But last night, I came across something very special. How could a Roast Pork Egg-Foo Young Combination plate be something to get excited about. I've probably had this dish from scores and scores of chinese restaurants over the course of a lifetime. But last night was the first time I got it from China Star in Middletown, RI. It was simply the best I've ever had BY FAR. As I've said, how could this be? Especially for someone who has cooked chinese food for about 40 years? It was definitely a different taste than what I expected. I think the roast pork was one of the key differences. Maybe just a hint of Five-Spice powder? At any rate, I cannot recommend this highly enough. I know it sounds crazy. Egg-Foo Young! But you should definitely give it a try. read more

In terms of Chinese Food in Middletown, this place is the best. Of the handful of times I've been, here, they have never gotten my order wrong. The food comes out hot and they are are the only Chinese food restaurant in the area that uses enclosed plastic containers so those the food doesn't leak all over the place. Their servings are generous, with two small orders too much for a grown man, and two large orders perfect for three. Sadly, the worst Chinese fare that I've had. The service was excellent as the food came extremely fast but at the cost that the house fried rice had the texture and flavor that it was previously refrigerated and the tossed in a hot pan to reheat. Definitely my go to place for Chinese food in the area. Looks kind of run down from the outside but I promise I've never had Chinese food from here that wasn't great and you can actually see them cooking the food from the counter.
