I have been to the China palace in Shadyside and this one in monroeville is closer. The restaurant is small but very clean and friendly. I loved the moo goo gai pan !!! The fried dumpling I have to say are the best I have tasted so far. The hard noodles are amazing! I like the shrimp egg roll and would order over and over again. We are out of towners and desired some really great Chinese food. We Yelped it of course and I must say the stars given did not reflect how amazing this restaurant was. Every dish we shared amongst ourselves was out of this world. The veggies were fresh. The protein enormous and the portions well worth the price of each meal. We took leftovers back with us. The owner/manager told us that they have been in Monroeville for 38 years! Incredible. Our server was Wonderful!!!!!!! The restaurant is very cozy yet casual. It was well lit and easy on the eyes. Just when we thought our meal was over, the owner brought us out this awesome Asian dessert which was a cookie and some type of syrup glazed on top. Sorry no pictures. We devoured it. Nothing special Chinese restaurant. Went at dinner time. Started with the scallion pancakes . Expected more for what they were charging($6.50). Only 3 pieces. It tasted good, though. Also had egg drop soup asked for fried noodle a plus that they give you a lot. The main entree I had the Sesame Beef ($20)with fried rice. Big chunks of beef were a little tough. Small portions and the broccoli was cold. When I told the manage, he said that is decoration! As the saying goes, if you can't eat it don't put it on the plate. Service was kinda slow as well. Reliable spot in the Monroeville area with friendly and personable staff every time. We always order for 3 and we are always hungry and order almost 100 bucks in food every time. Egg rolls good. Egg drop soup is good. I don't care for the fried rice for some reason to me there is an aftertaste of something that my palette does not like - maybe the oil it is cooked in even though my family is okay with it. For that reason I usually stick with steamed rice. Daughter likes the Lo Mein with vegetables. For the beef with vegetables we would have liked to have seen see more beef than onions and vegetables. This place is NOT what it used to be! (2016) They used to have the best General T'so's shrimp, the sauce was delicious. Good thing I went during the lunch special, because this place is EXPENSIVE. They didn't offer a lunch portion of General Tso's shrimp, so I got the chicken. (I didn't want to spend $21 for the General Tso's shrimp). The portion was small, for the price($11). Food options were pretty expensive for Chinese food and there was a lot to choose from but not any descriptions. I originally wanted General Tso Chicken, but it was placed under "Chef Specialties" and cost $15. So I settled for Kung Pow Chicken. My food order came out very quickly and I was on my way. I was eating it within 10 minutes of leaving the restaurant, but sadly it was already luke warm at best. The flavor was good, not the best, but better than fast Asian food. Luckily the bowl was packed full of noodles, so it lasted me two meals. Unfortunately it was pricey for the quality. It cost $11.75. My friend was disappointed in her Chinese food. My honest opinion, for the additional $2-3, I would rather have Nicki's Thai or Panda Express for cheaper. The menu has several unique names, but doesn't give a description describing these items. My food did come out very quick, but came out so fast that it had to be pre-cooked and just being kept warm. read more

China Palace Restaurant - Monroeville, Pa. On 9.12.20, I bought one Tom Yum Soup For 2 at $10.50 and two shrimp Lo-Mein meals at $10.50 each. They were presented in a paper bag in side of a plastic bag. The soup was in a plastic quart container. The lo mein meals were in separate Chinese take-out boxes. There were no utensils or napkins. When I arrived at home, all items had satisfactory temperature and flavor. There were 4 medium sized shrimp in the spicy-hot soup with a lot of thinly sliced mushrooms. The lo mein meals had delicious long noodles and about 13 small shrimp about one inch in diameter. There were a few thinly sliced onions and mushrooms. I do not recommend the Tom Yum Soup For 2 but I do recommend the Shrimp Lo Mein. read more

Just by chance! I pulled into a shopping center to make a phone call and noticed the good looking Chinese Resturant. What a treat. I measure a Chinese Resturant by how well they craft their hot n sour soap! It was dark, full and a wonderful deep taste. Worth a 5 star by itself! I had luncheon General Tso's and it was very good. The place was clean and the owner, Lee, was very nice and cared about his customers. The place was very clean including the restrooms. They were brightly lite. Very good quality food. The prices are pretty high. Lunch specials are around $8 and regular entrees are about $14. However, the food is worth it. Their cheese wontons are delicious, the beef is not chewy or small, and it is all fresh. I loved their hot and sour soup too. They bring you a pot of tea and those crunchy fried chips. I ordered two meals to be delivered to my place of employment for my coworker and I. For 2 meals with fried rice and crab rangoons, our total came to over $42. I did t mind paying that price if the food was good. I ordered my fried rice without onions, and the rice had onions throughout. The guy that answered the phone even repeated to me "no onion". When I called to inform them of the mistake, the man answering the phone argued with me that the rice was already made. I asked him why he wouldn't inform me of this when I placed the order, and he continued to argue with me. I couldn't eat my food, and was not offered any compensation for their mistake. Needless to say, we will not be ordering from here again. The crab Rangoon and chicken was hard & tasted like it had sat out all day. It is insane to charge this much for food that is barely edible. We were in Pittsburgh recently and stuck in a hotel because of car trouble. Yep, in town for a funeral and our car decided to break down. We arrived at the Chrysler dealership in a tow truck. We were considering what to do about dinner, then remembered an old favorite restaurant, China Palace. Years ago, we made this a "go to" Chinese restaurant. We wondered if they would deliver, if the food was still as good as we remembered, and if we could make something out of this horrible day with a relaxing meal. I am happy to report that it was possible! We ordered soup, seafood stuffed eggplant, and spicy wontons. They were every bit as good as we remembered! We were able to relax after a trying day, and enjoyed the food. One tiny disappointment: they did not bring the wonton strips for our soup, and we didn't realize we had to ask for them. We also would have appreciated a bit of hot sauce to add( husband loves the heat). Would we go there again? Resoundingly, yes, but hopefully under better circumstances, and on a day where we could actually GO to the restaurant. read more

I came here with my two friends and their parents. We were a large party, and the restaurant was dead at the time of our arrival. It was difficult to understand the employees, and they seemed disgruntled the entire time. I ordered the general tso tofu. My two friends also ordered tofu dishes, and the parents ordered shrimp fried rice and some type of chicken dish. Our meals came after about 45 minutes of waiting, which I feel is too long in a dead restaurant. The portion sizes were extremely generous, and that is where the two stars is coming from. I wish I could give stars for individual categories, but it is what it is. My tofu was ok. They use silken tofu, which turns out to be really slimy and squishy. It wasn't the best ever, but it wasn't the worst either. Then again, I am a tofu lover. I wouldn't recommend this to a person trying tofu for the first time ever. I couldn't finish my meal so I packed it up to go. Everyone else had no problem finishing up theirs, and they seemed happy with the quality. If you're in the area and you need to eat, then this place is as good as any for vegans. I've had better, and I would rather make a slightly longer trip to go to the other China Palace in Shadyside. read more

The portions here are pretty substantial, so one may luck out with a second meal as leftovers. I ordered the Buddah's delight, a bit more expensive, but includes 3 separate dishes - tofu with a red/brown sauce, veggies with white sauce, and string beans. Overall, pretty decent. I was told, if the tofu was steamed, it wouldn't have taste so I went with fried. (Some places do well with steamed...) One picky eater really liked his General Two's chicken. This is my go-to place for mehh Chinese delivery food, which usually takes 30 minutes or so to arrive. For those who want to dine on the premises, the restaurant itself is clean and nicely maintained. Ambiance is casual and low-key. The staff are very courteous and friendly. The place is usually not too busy and service is reasonably fast. China Palace offers a huge variety of food. Most items are reasonably priced and there's almost nothing here that is lacking, in the Ameri-Chinese context. General Tso's, Kung Pao, Orange chicken, Seafood Delight, Chicken in Vegetables, Eggplant in Garlic Sauce - all served in good portions. Flavors are about what you'd expect for the standards. It's not a joint I would take out-of-towners or a date but it does well enough in a pinch. read more

I think there General Tso's is one of the best in the city and I could snack on their "chips" and duck sauce all day (and I almost have).
