We stayed at an Airbnb across the street from China Palace while visiting from out of town, so we decided to have dinner there one night. There were two other parties dining in but the one server working didn't have any trouble staying on top of our drinks and requests. The dishes we ordered tasted freshly cooked and the flavors were great. The portions were sized appropriately enough to feed the eight of us with no leftovers. At the end of the meal the owner came out to check on our experience and said they've been in business for 40 years. I'm glad we gave this longtime local spot a try. read more

Been here a few times over the last year. It is the "better" of the two Chinese restaurants in Fulton. Of all the dishes I have had, the sesame chicken was the best; crispy chicken and a delicious sauce. Egg rolls were very good and seems they make them themselves and are not frozen, though I am not sure. Crag Rangoon was so-so. Got the special fried rice to go and discovered there was very little meat and no egg or bean sprouts at all. Very disappointed since they charged over $11 for fried rice. We live in Fulton and try to dine there once a week. I've travelled all over the states and China Palace is as good as any Chinese place around. Try it should you have a chance. My favorite is the seafood delight, though Shrimp and Snow Peas is a very close second. Very healthy servings and the owner/chef Steve makes a great effort to come out and speak with each customer. My wife and I tried China Palace for the first time. We got the orange chicken and beef with broccoli, along with some crab rangoons. The service was fast and excellent -- I was greeted by Steven at the door and he took the time to have a conversation with me while I waited to pick up my food. The food was tasty! This place has been around for more than 30 years. It has always been a very family friendly place to go and the original owners were very gracious to the patrons. They have raised their children in this place. Food was always impeccable. Now that the owners have grown older the son and his wife have been running it. The portions are about half the size they were while the price has doubled. The aren't open except for dinner now and they had such a great lunch buffet. It was always packed. First let's talk about the cleanliness - negative zero. Floors & windows filthy .. the one thing not filthy apparently are the dishes - well kinda sorta - when they brought out the dishes of food the plates were covered with crusted soap- at least we convinced ourselves that is what it was. We asked her to take back our food... she left the food on the next table over... the entire time we were there Food...first time EVER I can't say one nice thing Party of 5 - no plates no serving utensils and when we asked for plates we were given coffee cup saucers. Steven, I hope you're reading this. You should take note. I see problems ahead. The cleanliness in the restaurant seems to be waning. The floor is getting very sticky. That is a huge turn-off. Also the counter where we pay is totally nasty under and on top of the glass and the rubber matt signed by customers is getting gross. The dining tables could be cleaner. Also, it does not look good for one waiter to be busting his butt, running as fast as he can, taking care of people while you and Lucy sit around on your parents' laurels. You as owners and the future of China Palace need to be helping out with customer service, paying close attention to their needs, bussing tables, taking drink orders and delivering the drinks as you seat people. Why don't you offer your customers free WIFI? It would help business. You have it already because we see you using it like ALL the time. The food still is wonderful. The buffet is very clean. I will not go in and sit down, because the place is perpetually dirty, the staff seems to have a contest amongst themselves to see who can be the laziest, and the glasses seem to have been washed by and 1850's bartender in a greasy apron. I've lived in NYC, Chicago, and DC and have had Chinese food from multiple restaurants in those cities' Chinatowns and none have been better than China Palace. Among their many fantastic dishes, they have the best hot and sour soup ever. The only other Chinese restaurant that has come close is one in DC's Chinatown, but it's more of a noodle shop, while China Palace is an all around tasteful and great value Chinese food restaurant. read more

How in god's name did this place get an average of 4.5 stars?? Not for the buffet--that's for sure. I stopped in for lunch while in town simply for the Yelp reviews, and was unfortunately disappointed. Maybe the menu entrees are great, but this buffet? Fresh and hot? More like "nope" and "not." The Hot & Sour Soup was pretty good, which I had as an appetizer and left me hopeful as to the rest of the buffet. Big disappointment. The "Chicken & Onion" was overly sweet, the Beef & Broccoli was bland and looked and tasted like it had been sitting there WAY too long--in fact--pretty much everything looked & tasted like it had been sitting there for a couple hours, right down to the congealing buffet-skin on the Green Beans w/ Garlic Sauce. I just moved to Fulton a little over a year ago and could not believe when a friend said they looked forward to China Pallace when they came to visit from two states away. Like really? You can't find one decent Chinese place in the state of Minnesota? But NOW now I understand. Their food is freaking DELICIOUS! Really good and fresh Chinese. All of the waiters are super friendly and checked on us a lot. I went with my daughter and they treated us both really well. The egg rolls and crab ran goon are among the best I've ever had and came out so fresh we couldn't even touch them at first! I have to agree with the other "not so good" reviews here. I started eating at the China Palace when it first opened, and it was fantastic for years. The cleanliness of the restaurant, the quality of the food, the menu choices, the prompt service... everything was top-notch. Then the Parents left to open an Asian Market in Columbia, leaving the Restaurant with new management (their Son, I think). Everything gradually went down hill after that, and I would not eat there now even if someone else was paying for it. I gave the place one last chance about a month ago and even though I ordered off the menu, the food had the mouth-feel and taste of food that has been setting in the buffet too long. I wasn't paying attention, but for all I know they may actually have made my plate up right off of the buffet itself. While we do have another Asian restaurant in Fulton, it serves highly "Americanized" food, so to get my favorite Asian dishes now, I either cook it at home, or go to Columbia. read more

Food is great along with service. We went in with some friends who drink bottled water normally and the owner himself went out of his way to get it for our table. He had to go next door. They do use msg, but will not add it upon request. Can't do anything about the buffet though. They serve the lunch buffet from about 11 to 2:30. My wife and I keep going back.
