We were in the area again and remembered having great Chinese food at their old place. So, we checked out the new place, which is in a much livelier location with the college nearby and all. We came in around 3p on a Sunday, and it was pretty quiet; we were the only customers. Still, the service was pleasant and with the kitchen exposed, it was cool to see our food being made fresh. And thankfully, it is really close to us so we are able to support it often! The owner is a very sweet lady who continues to provide excellent customer service. My husband and I usually get the same thing (General Tao's and Sesame Chicken) because they are both soo good. My husband loves the fried rice here too! These meals always taste incredibly fresh, the chicken meat is always super tender, and the flavors in the sauce are fantastic. Each time we come it's the same experience so we know what to expect. We have also tried the sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli and their crab rangoons. Bamboo Terrace has a unique take on crab rangoons as well which is fun. My general tso dish with chicken was supposed to have vegetables in it and I only got 1 tiny piece of bell pepper, 1 small piece of onion and 4 small pieces of broccoli. I was rather disappointed. The people that ran the restaurant were nice and the service was quick, but my Tso general dish was a disappointment and the two tiny egg rolls were a disappointment too. This restaurant had a previous location, but they are open just relocated. Now located across from Sparky's ice cream on 9th street downtown and is easily the Best Chinese in Columbia. Customers from their previous location as they were leaving shared that this restaurant was the best. We ordered orange chicken, shrimp fried rice, pork egg rolls and vegetable egg rolls. The order took about 15-20 minutes. There is an option to dine-in if you deserve to sit and enjoy your meal. But if you decide to do carry out, the food will be ready to eat as long as you're not having to travel more than 5 minutes away. Chicken wings - very good flavor. Wings were not crispy but I imagine it's hard to keep them crispy when they are in a takeout container 2. Mongolian triple delight - also well seasoned. A bit on the salty side was the rice tones that down. Shrimp was generously sized and there was a good amount of beef and chicken in the dish 3. Place was clean. Service was OK. Food quality was OK to good. We just didn't care for the dishes we ordered. For an appetizer we got the curry seafood crab rangoon. They were done very quickly and were piping hot when we got them. We did not care for the curry flavor and there was zero seafood in our cream-cheese stuffing...just molten curry-flavored cream cheese. My husband and I were traveling across Missouri and happened to be in Columbia around the dinner hour on a Sunday evening. Google maps provided their location as one of few Chinese places open on Sunday. We found a parking spot in front but there is a free public garage about a block away. Once inside the door, a ramp takes one to an open seating area with booths along the far wall. A husband-wife team own the second iteration of this restaurant. I wish I had asked her name since the wife speaks English very well and has a wonderful easy manner. I ordered one of the dinner specials, chicken with prawns and asparagus, while my husband had the Szechuan chicken (special order of broccoli added). Both were excellent. My husband commented the Szechuan was a tad spicier than his usual experience but he really enjoyed it. I don't normally eat the rice, but it was so flavorful and fluffy just plain I was happy to add it to our leftovers to-go container. Plenty of food for tomorrow lunch!! They moved into this location in June and are still renovating so the decor is lacking. But I hope they have everything ready for the students coming back to school this fall. Ugh okay, I tried to like this place. I ordered the chicken, prawn and asparagus something or other and it truly did not taste all that good. It tasted like an oven. Or, rather, the smell of an oven. The rice was cooked perfectly and I can't go wrong with a nicely cooked bowl of rice. Our waiter was very shy (and I felt bad for him as he may have been new). I encouraged him to put his shoulders back and stand tall. The atmosphere was decent. It looked like Italy met China. I think this is the best Chinese I've eaten in this area of Missouri. We ordered teas, soda (was a bit watery), Mongolian Beef and Beef in Hot Chili Oil. First of all let me say this. It's virtually impossible to find dry sauteed Mongolian Beef at the usual Chinese Restaurant, even if you are looking for it. They had it! I was so excited. I wasn't totally sure but it looked like it from the pictures on yelp. I actually asked for some added ingredients just in case it wasn't (broccoli and bamboo but it came with broccoli and asparagus, which was delish) and the owner came out and gently cautioned me that the vegetables created moisture which interfered with the dry method usually used. Even SO, it was lovely and still had the interesting texture that the dry saute results in. The beef in hot chili oil was indeed NOT hot. The owner said they originally made things hotter when they opened but so many customers weren't accustomed to it, they dialed it back. SO if you like it more authentically hot, do mention it when you order. The sauce this was in was so light and savory with a delicate sesame flavor. My boyfriend ordered it and he raved about it. All the bites I had made me want more. I even dipped a piece of my beef in it with pleasing results! We've already discussed our next visit and enjoyed the customer service and lovely owner. Next time we'll try to remember to ask for the special Chinese menu! So exciting to find scrumptious food like this and even better to know the owner seemed very interested in the quality of her customer's experience. Of note, lunch (which ends at 3) seems like it's in the 1 "$" category but the dinner menu tends to fall in the low 2 "$$" range. We felt it was well worth it! read more

Yelp directed us here on a road trip - it was close to I-70/our hotel. We ordered Malaysian Chicken Curry (tasty sauce, next time would ask for vegetables), Triple Veggie Delight (a little heavy on the eggplant, but the potatoes are so good), Wonton soup (too bland for my taste) and the veggie Egg rolls (amazing). The lady I spoke with (the manager, I think) was very nice. While we weren't blown away by the food, I would try it again next time we pass through Columbia. She recommended that next time we order from the Special Menu of authentic Chinese cuisine, only available on their website. We tried Bamboo Terrace tonight for the first time, on a whim an to our delight experienced the most exquisite quality food prepared by a trained master chef who is practicing the honored traditions of his culture with Artistic Diligence and Integrity. Do it now! The first thing that I saw as I entered the restaurant was the daily specials menu...written in Chinese! Probably a good sign for a Chinese restaurant. Even more important is the fact that the restaurant is teaming with asian friends and families chatting in a exotic language. But, while the patronage is impressive, the decor is not, part Mexican, modern, and Asian. The menu has a little something to please the Asian or American palate. The American palate that I was with chose the House fried rice with chicken, pork, and shrimp that were cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy and the shrimp succulent. The rice was firm but tender and not greasy. We also happily devoured the General Tsao's chicken. Tender chicken with a slightly crunchy exterior, bathed in a sweet sauce that was perfect with the steamed white rice on the side. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive. Portions were generous and dinner prices average $8 -$15. The menu has a good variety of dinner selections to choose from. They even offer dieting options! Unfortunately I didn't opt for that, I was in the mood to mainline my carbohydrates. Tomorrow I'll feel bad and eat a salad! Tonight I indulge. The Yelp directions took me right to the turn into the parking lot for the restaurant / shopping center. Unlike other Chinese restaurants in the area, Bamboo Terrace stays open until 10:00 pm. My wife and I met her aunt and uncle here for lunch yesterday and there were immediately two good signs about the place: 1. They had been coming here weekly since discovering the place two months ago and 2. Lots of Chinese students were eating here! The menu was more interesting than your typical Americanized Chinese fare and what I immediately noticed was the abundance of duck dishes -- yum! After hearing about how good each one was I decided to go for the duck with Udon noodles for the main dish and duck rolls as an appetizer. Both were excellent! I'm new to Columbia and was told the best Chinese was at the Hy-Vee. I couldn't believe that was the absolute truth, so I decided to check out what yelp had to say. All pretty good reviews. We tried the pot stickers(they were great) the curry crab rangoon (not bad, but different) and the egg rolls (not bad at all) and as then entree she for the orange chicken and I had the triple delight Mongolian dish. The orange chicken had a bit to much sauce but was still very crunchy, the triple delight was good, not as spicy as I had hoped but flavorful. Also the portions were smaller than I would have liked for the money. We are around 3:30 and after paying the bill our waitress promptly removed our drinking glasses even though we were not done with them. The smaller portions and promptness to get us out the door is why I am giving them 4 stars. The food itself was very good. read more
