We went on a Thursday evening, ordered the Combination platter that comes with an entree, pork fried rice, soup and an egg roll plus dessert for around $15.00. We opted to have steamed white rice instead. Food was hot, and arrived to the table in a timely manner. We also had the steamed meat dumplings, which were phenomenal. They seem to be made in house. The Generals Tso's was bland, The shrimp in the shrimp and lobster sauce dish were significantly overcooked, and the rice lacked seasoning. Assuming that was a one-time issue, I ordered again tonight with similar results--and they even missed sending the side order of Pork Fried Rice. Very disappointing. Given my long history with this restaurant, I will likely give them one more try, but I am now officially nervous that I am going to have to find another Chinese Takeout place.

Their "spicy" dishes, like Sichuan chicken actually have some spice which is nice. They will adjust heat to your preferences. You can order takeout on line which is also very handy. Often when I go to other restaurants, the food can be good, but the service, especially the customer service, and the facilities are unkempt and in poor condition. I cannot say the same about Bangkok on Franklin. This restaurant is clean, fresh, and classy, and I really appreciate the time and effort the owners have put into the aesthetics. I am vegan, and as such I called ahead to inquire about the krapow dish. I was told I could choose the tofu option as the protein and the bowl would be fully vegan. I purchased it, and even though it runs a bit pricier, by about $2 or $3, than other places, the service and quality of the meal warrant the few extra bucks. I will be highly recommending this restaurant to my friends and family.

I looked up a few spots on Yelp and decided upon Hong Kong Express. The lunch special prices is honestly what sealed the deal for me! I saw a broccoli special with your choice of meat (I chose shrimp, more on this later!). It comes with white rice or plain fried rice. The have other options such as beef or shrimp fried rice or Lo Mein noodles for about a dollar or two more. For something a bit different, I chose the noodles. The meal comes with your choice of soup or egg roll (I chose the egg roll for my meals). I also bought the egg foo young lunch special with pork fried rice. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I wasn't expecting to be as delighted as I was with my food! The egg foo young was very tasty & well seasoned. The gravy was verrry delicious and bought the whole meal together! The egg patty was flavorful and the pork fried rice was very good. The egg rolls were lightly fried with a delicate, crispy, crunch. Nothing extraordinary about them, but they still were pretty good! Now the super star of it ALL...the broccoli Lo Mein and shrimp! Now, notice I didn't say shrimp Lo Mein. I believe this is mainly a broccoli dish with your choice of meat and whatever kind of rice or noodles you prefer. The broccoli was perfectly chopped in bite sized pieces, which is an underrated pro. Some places put big stalks of broccoli in the dish, making it hard to enjoy, especially if the broccoli isn't cooked long enough. Hong Kong does it right! I chose plain noodles to not take away from the shrimp and broccoli. It was a great pairing. The SHRIMP!!! Omg. The shrimp were BIG, plump and delicious!!! They were fresh and had no fishy flavor. I enjoyed this dish soooo much, I'm willing to go back for it alone! It was that good. I didn't include a picture of the egg foo young, but if you've had it before, it looks like that, lol! But I had to include to broccoli dish with the shrimp because the presentation was pretty by itself. The restaurant is honestly unassuming and I would've passed it by if the visit wasn't intentional. It's not fancy looking from the outside, but the inside is nice and clean. The owners/workers are very polite. Prices weren't bad AT ALL! For two lunch specials and a can of soda, the price came up to $17 and change. As I waited for my food I saw patrons come in and out of the restaurant, which lead me to believe that I made the right decision. I'll be back, for sure! 5 stars.

I like the cheap chopsticks, or the tiny flimsy white fork - the round spoon is a bonus trophy. In every town in the world a main road hits a T-intersection. If you go one way it's commercialized/nicer/safer/gentrified/rural if you go the other way there are liquor stores/pawn shops/car garages (with junk cars piled out back) and a down on its luck strip mall. Turn in that direction from time to time. You will learn more about the world around you, you will have some adventure to knock the sameness out of your life, and you might even be a little frightened. That is good for you, seek it out, embrace it. That turn towards the adventure side is exactly the kind of strip mall [Old Orchard Shopping Center] Chop Sticks sits in. It is non-descript, nestled in with a couple of ethnic grocery stores, a liquor store, and several other hanging in there one-off "businesses". I knew before I parked that this was going to hit the spot. The service was fast, effecient, friendly. I got Hunan Beef, fried rice, egg rolls, and a bag of those donuts unique to these places for my wife. For $25 the best of these meals I have had in a while. Good portions, beef was spicy enough for forehead sweat, rice was simple but that seperate grain texture that you can only get from these places. The egg rolls were just the right greasy, excellent with the little package of duck sauce. I would definetly eat here often if I lived in the area. A little girl (maybe middle schooler) takes my order and my family's orders. She was very polite and well mannered. Her mother came out and served us our food one by one, asking if there was anything else we needed. It seemed like she made the food as well. You could tell she was very hard working. The general tso chicken was a generous portion, glazed with sweet brown sauce, yet still crunchy (how I like it). The rice was mixed with pieces of pork, I never mind extra meat. The platter came with a very crunchy and large egg roll. As I finish eating my food I see an older man come into the store and say, "my wife needs soup, she is sick." I hear the mother in the kitchen, amidst the clanging of pots and hiss of steam typical of a kitchen, exclaim genuine worry and concern. The little girl asked the man questions about his wife's condition. If you are looking for cheap yet tasty chinese food, and great service, this is the top place.
