First and last time. Food was terrible. Hot and sour soup was nothing like I had ever tasted before. A lot of the normal ingredients were missing. The Szechuan beef had a smoky taste and wasn't spicy at all. Very little beef (mystery meat) was used in the dish. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

This was probably the worst food I have eaten in this town. I bought the "Crispy Sesame Beef" ($18.95) tonight which I am not sure was beef and it certainly wasn't crispy. It was like extremely thin strips of some type of beef? which was dredged in flour, then placed in under-heated oil where the oil wetted the flour to stick to the meat but didn't fry it to make it crispy. So, there was gritty flour over the meat but no crispiness at all. (All that whitish looking area in the picture was uncooked flour or some uncooked seasoning) Truly disgusting. Had dinner there tonight for the first time ever. Everything was very good and very full however, I would not recommend buying eggrolls from there because they were very bland and I don't even know what they were filled with, but it wasn't a tasteful item. Very happy and pleased to find a tasty Asian restaurant after an afternoon of shopping for a new truck. To start our meals, we had the Hot and Sour soup and the Wonton soup; both were really rich and tasty. We tried the pan-fried pork dumplings and the chicken spring rolls for our appetizers. The dumplings were very delicious, and we could have eaten more!! For our entrees we had the Pad Thai with tofu, pork Fried Rice and the Spicy Crisp Pork. We were pleased with all of our meals. We ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken, Thai Basil Chicken, and Orange Peel Beef with egg rolls. This is our second time ordering and we weren't impressed the first time but it had been 6 months so we were willing to try again. The egg rolls were dry and had no flavor. They almost seemed like they had been freezer burned then cooked with the texture of the wrapper. Even soy sauce and duck sauce couldn't make them taste good. The sweet and sour chicken was two chicken breasts that had been pan seared with no seasoning or breading. The sauce was fine but my son wanted the fried nuggets of chicken that you usually get with that dish. The Thai Basil was also flavourless. You could taste the jalapenos and basil but no other sauce or flavor on the chicken and veggies. Last time we ordered beef and broccoli and it was unflavorful as well. Only the orange peel beef tasted good. We will not be giving them a third try and I didn't recommend others even giving them a first until they get a new chef. read more

Late-ish Saturday, needed some eats. It was just ¼-hr before closing, and Simply Asia was still going strong. Our waitress, Lena, was an absolute "angel of food" - knowledgeable about her restaurant, and also very sweet & attentive. We started with appetizers: Edamame (huge portion of steamed soybeans in the husk, with just the right amount of salt), an order of spring rolls, and a sushi-sashimi combo of salmon & avocado - all delicious. For dinner, my friend seemed quite pleased with the Malaysian noodles (like stirfried lo-mein, but spicier :-) I (a bit full from the appetizers) went for a modest roll of yellowtail & scallion, which was just right. Literally a stone's throw from US 15 lies one of the best Pan-Asian places I've ever been to outside of some fancy New York City restaurant. As a college student, I would often order out from this place because other Chinese places only had really greasy food. Their Chinese foods are good and pass my "Orange Chicken Test" (Is the orange chicken bad? Would you order it again? - this usually sets the bar for the other Chinese entrees). Dining in is a surprisingly pleasant experience. The staff is friendly and service is prompt. They changed hands sometime in early 2010; they're still dependable, and even added some Korean foods - Visiting the area on a hot Spring day, a plate of crisp, cool Kimchi hit the spot. Pad Thai is delicious and peanut-y. I've gone with a few vegetarians and they've always been accommodated with all the options, no fussiness at all! We were so hungry after the two boys went snowboarding at Liberty, we could've eaten snow... but thank goodness we didn't. It was pretty dirty. lol We really didn't feel like eating Asian food since we just ate Thai yesterday, but our stomachs were having conversations of their own... The Simply Asian salad had mango, candied walnuts, chicken, and an amazing dressing. I normally do not use all my dressing, but tonight was an exception. It was a huge salad and it was just heavenly. My husband ordered General Tso's chicken and my son ordered Crispy Sesame Beef. They were given the option of white or fried rice. The presentation was surprisingly beautiful- good portions (we had leftovers even though we were so hungry!) and they even added an orchid on the plate! They also provided steamed broccoli as a side. We all shared a spider roll and it was consistent with other restaurants we've tried. The restaurant has a comfortable setting. We saw a group of college students there with cases of beer. Apparently, you can BYOB here... But they were well behaved. We saw couples and families as well. The service was great. Our server, "Henry" was very attentive and constantly refilled our drinks. Our food took a bit of time to arrive, but Henry kept us in the loop. Overall, we thought that this restaurant is worth returning to if we're ever in the area... and if we are lucky enough not to have been force fed dirty snow from falling violently off Liberty Mountain. lol read more

We were shown to a table and sat there for 15 minutes with NO SERVICE. It's like we were invisible. Although the table near us was visited by a waitress four times while we were waiting. We gave up and left and no one even looked in our direction. There were maybe four tables occupied and two waitresses. This was inexcusable. It's not like they couldn't have noticed us. After ten minutes, our daughter was loudly asking for water. I can't decide if this place deserves a 2 or 3 rating, but on 2 out of 3 occasions (2 dine-in, 1 takeout), I threw out a huge amount of leftovers because they were no good and there was nothing I could do to salvage them, other than make some fried rice from the white rice. With so many hungry people in the world, I'm not proud of that, and I'm a big eater who lives in Thurmont and loves Oriental food, so I really wanted this to be good so I don't have to drive 20 miles to Frederick when I HAVE TO HAVE (as in day-dreaming about it) Asian food. And I know the power of a bad Yelp review so I don't do that lightly, but maybe they will wake up (read the numerous other bad reviews, they are there for a reason) and make changes, or give up the ghost and let someone else take over the place. The bottom line is, I'm not going back. The spring rolls were OK, same as everywhere else, but they are hard to screw up, I think 95% of the time they are pre-made frozen ones. The pork dumplings filling tasted fine, but the dough covering was so thick and chewy I actually had to peel most of it off. Also, they should have a greater variety of dipping sauces in addition to the watered down soy sauce everything comes with.The absolute best thing I've eaten here is the spring onion pancake appetizer, it was outstanding, but a small portion could not fill you up or make up for the rest of the disappointing meal. Most of the time the food is way too salty, but that could be a personal preference, so it needs interpretation; the really inescapable fact is, most of their fried food really sucks. The shrimp tempura (roll) was heavy and mushy, either from a bad tempura batter and/or not being cooked at a sufficiently high oil temperature, and the sesame chicken breading (wheat? should be thin cornstarch) was so thick that it fell off the (dry, almost tough, overcooked) chicken pieces in BIG SOGGY GLOBS in the almost tasteless 'sauce' at the bottom of the take-out container. What a disgusting mess; I could do better blindfolded at home. Part of the problem may be that it sat out in the packaging too long, but that's on them too, not me, I was told to pick-up in a half hour, and it was, almost to the minute. Not really sure why (the place was really empty for a Friday night at 6:30), but that's too long for what I ordered. Anyway, if you are driving through, don't bother stopping here, it's not worth it, wait till you get to Gettysburg or Frederick for some decent food. read more

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!! This place is amazing. Twenty-ish years ago I was a law student in Baltimore and had a favorite Thai place I'd get drunken noodles. Then I left Baltimore. I've been searching ever since for the drunken noodles I remembered but could never find it. Until tonight. They are perfection. And the portion was insanely huge. Like three meals worth huge. So tasty!!! Eggs rolls were large and amazing too. And my son loved the honey chicken which was also a huge portion. They have a new loyal customer for life!!! Do yourself a favor and order. The quality of the food is slipping while the prices have increased. Tonight was the worst, as the food was actually terrible which is really a shame as the people (out front) are really nice. I don't know if the Chef quit or what.. if so get the Chef back! Whatever it takes get the Chef back! Sadly this will be the last we dine at Simply Asia as the food is just not worth the cost. Overall, the Simply Asia is great. IMO, they need to change their name to "Some of Asia" because they serve mostly Chinese, Japanese, and Thai cuisines - no Korean, Filipino, Indian cuisines - from what I recall from 1st grade Asia is not only composed of China, Japan, and Thailand, it's a BIIIG continent! But anyways this place is still pretty good. They have a good variety of food which include: salad, soup, Thai curry dishes, rice noodles, stir fried dishes, different meats - fish, poultry and meat- and also vegetarian. They also have a pretty extensive sushi/sashimi menu - considering this is a fusion-type asian restaurant. Chef's specials are available for both the sushi and the main menu too. Let's go deeper with the service. Because of our server, John, my boyfriend and I had a great experience, a dynamite experience. He was on his feet ready to take our order, to refill our drinks, to ask what else we needed, to hand us the check and to take our payment. He was very friendly, amiable and very much entertaining. Great guy all around. The food, mainly the appetizer, took a little while to come however. We ordered the shumai as soon as we were seated, but it took 10 minutes for it to come out. Not sure if the server or the cook was to blame for that, but that didn't really matter, John's service made up for that mishap. Now to food. When the shumai came out I was a little bit disappointed with the dish. It said on the menu that they were bite size shrimp dumplings. They weren't kidding about it being bite size - there were 6 little pieces of shumais. They were so "bite size" that I was left hungry after I finished it. For the entrée I had the Singapore rice stick noodle. It was okay, just a little bit overcooked. Lots of flavor, spicy - probably too spicy for non-spicy eaters - and has lots of onions, both red and green onion (roots/end of the green onions were in my dish, I don't think it was supposed to be there, the root has a bitter taste to it - not very delicious). They also need to work on the presentation to make them more appealing and appetizing because as of now, the look does not give justice to the taste. One good thing though, if you are not satisfied with your appetizer, the serving size for the entrées are humongous! HUMONGOUS!!! The tea. I have to mention the tea! The teapot was user friendly. It had a little plastic covering the glass on the side where you hold the pot (side of the handle), BUT it has no proper insulation. The teapot was cute and all, but it didn't keep the tea warm. They definitely need a ceramic teapot, a double-walled teapot or an insulated one. Whichever one would be fantastic! Also, I had some issues with the dinner napkin. It was China silk/silk charmeuse or some kind of fancy silk. Silk is not very absorbent and I would rather have a less fancier but more absorbent napkin. It's a fancy looking napkin - good for decorations - but not very effective for wiping off hot sauce of your face. You just end up looking you had a hot sauce facial. read more

Worse place to order Chinese. First they try to add additional charges on your bill and they lie about the prices. I would not recommend unless you want to be scammed. Fantastic food and a very courteous staff! Decor was quaintly Asian-- very nice atmosphere for a small town eatery! I asked for my Pad Thai to be a tad bit spicier than they normally prepare it, and it came out perfect! (I like a nice punch, but nothing over the top.) It had an awesome number of shrimp also... Not typical, and definitely welcomed! The Tom Yum Goong was a little different than I'm used to, but in a good way. Hard to articulate...
