Had to be the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I left two stars for having it ready and correct. The egg rolls were nearly hollow not even any cabbage nor pork. The fried rice was dry and nearly inedible until I sauced it up, it looked like brown dye on it, flavorless. The orange chicken was most sauce and slimy breading, the chicken itself was tough as leather and way too sweet. The Crab Rangoons were good. It's been a few years since we ate there and it was always, always been very good in the past. Not sure if it's changed hands, food suppliers or what but it's not what it used to be especially for the money we spent. Needless to say this will most likely be our last time there. Ordered the teriyaki chicken appetizer, vegetable fried rice (no mushrooms), steamed chicken & vegetables. The app was rubbery & tasted charred The fried rice was flavorless The steamed chicken with vegetables had an odd scent and also had a rubbery texture. Lastly, the visual of that place was a direct representation of what sort of quality to expect. It's only pickup, there's a 2020 covid plexiglass barrier with a cardboard bottom to block a near empty dining room that looks like a vacuum hadn't been used since covid. What keeps us coming back? Consistency! This is a little place in Kannapolis that is definitely nothing fancy on the inside, but more than makes up for that with its dishes! A bit caught in the '70's or '80's, the decor is worn but comfortable booths and several tables with nice padded seats. Everything is clean and neat. It's not Five Star looks, but looks is not what you are here for! I had been searching for a Chinese restaurant that served really good Curry Chicken - that savory, green-yellow heaven that envelopes tender white meat chicken and vegetables. I had been searching for literally 12 years. No place I tried was even close - I was disappointed by many odd versions, but never found true Curry Chicken. Until China Kitchen in Kannapolis! I almost cried the first time it arrived at my table, because I didn't even have to see it - I could smell that wonderfully fragrant dish before it even hit the table! And it has ALWAYS been that same fragrant, savory dish time after time. My husband's favorite of Kung Pao Chicken is always perfect, too. As are the egg rolls and pan fried dumplings. On the back end of Kannapolis is this tiny restaurant that my brother had told me has some really good Chinese food. After a few weeks of hearing about it we got the family together for dinner to try it out, and it was kind of a mixed bag. Restaurant is very small on the inside. You can tell the building has been there for a while from the decor. Tables weren't atrocious but could have used a wipe down if I'm being honest. We ordered our meals and some Pan Fried Dumplings as an appetizer. Not a terribly long wait until the dumplings came out. These were certainly bigger than the Japanese style gyoza I normally prefer, but no less flavorful. Pork and spices in a nice little bun, crispy on the bottom. They were definitely fresh when they came out. They were so hot they almost burned your mouth. Really enjoyed those. Main dish next, I ordered the Szechuan Chicken with Steamed Rice. Honestly pretty good. Sliced pieces of chicken in a sweet and savory sauce. The flavor was there, but I wish it had just a bit more spice to balance out the sweet. They don't skimp on your portion when you order the large either. The picture I posted only showed half of my chicken as I took the rest home. Rice was well cooked too. Everything I ate was pretty good. If I was only rating based on food this would be any easy four star. Unfortunately I have to rate my whole experience and some parts were less than stellar. Like I mentioned before the table was a little sticky. The bathroom was more than a little sticky. It was atrocious. I'm not going to elaborate but lets just say I only used it because I really needed to. They did at least have soap and paper towels. Lastly there was a yelling child the first half of the evening. Now normally I wouldn't even mention that but it appeared that it was an employees child. I understand things happen, sometimes you can't get a baby sitter, but maybe the middle of your dining room in your small restaurant isn't the best place to keep your upset child during your shift. If the food is consistently this level of quality I might consider using this place for take out. Waited an hour and a half for our delivery, and the food showed up ice cold and rubbery, pretty sure they scooped the chicken right from the buffet's heat lamps and put it in a to-go container. When I called the restaurant to inform them their response was, and I quote, "you want money back, you give food back."
