Unfortunately there aren't very many options for Chinese food in Gonzales and from now on, I will drive 20 minutes to Baton Rouge for all of my Chinese food needs. The menu here is very vague with not very many options for sides or combinations. As for the food itself, it is not very appetizing, especially for the outrageous prices. Decided on shrimp fried rice after reading another review here & highly agree it is one of the better I've had. The shrimp were larger than expected, plentiful, flavorful & sweet. Shrimp were Perfectly cooked! The fried rice was perfectly balanced imo. Eggroll was tasty & average. I only tasted the boneless pork ribs & did not like the meat texture and the sauce was not at all to my liking. I prefer the ribs & sauce to be more browned & sauce caramelized, but the sauce just wasn't anything like I've had before. Don't think cooking it more would help it. Blah. Still overall, I will come back even just for the shrimp fried rice when I don't feel like cooking. It's out of my way but I've tried the closer places since I moved from LP, & been sorely disappointed. I am relocating to the area and had a taste for Chinese food, so I came here. I almost turned around and left because this place is net very welcoming. I ordered garlic chicken with fried rice. I don't understand the plexiglass and boxes because we are not in the hood in Chicago. The tables we shoved against the wall, which isn't practical to dine in. When I opened my container, it had white rice. The garlic chicken was good,but It wasn't worth the trouble to switch for fried rice. When we go out to eat, we prefer to deal with someone who is somewhat friendly and the plexiglass is ridicules. I probably will not be back. read more

Pretty tasty food! I ordered online and picked up to go! On the allergy comments I put no added MSG. MSG causes me to swell and esp being preggo, I didn't want anymore swelling! It still tasted good without msg! We ordered the combination lo mein which was freshly made and used lo mein noodles not spaghetti noodles. I also enjoyed the crab Rangoon which was made traditionally, four corners pinched up instead of a flat crab Rangoon. You should not be guilt tripped if you do not like the food. Ive been eating at this place for years and normally get their shrimp fried rice. However, tonight I decided to try something new. I've been craving fried seafood lately and noticed fried shrimp on their menu. The menu didn't have any pictures so I assumed it would be fried like any other shrimp in the area. Incorrect. The breading was VERY thick and bland (pictured below). I immediately asked the cashier about their refund policy. He went back and forth with me on why I didn't like the shrimp before offering to make a different shrimp that he assured would be similar to what I described to him (pictured below). He brings out a different varient of shrimp, I tried it. The shrimp was fried too long and still contained too much flavorless breading. I kindly let him know I didn't like it either and would like to just get the original refund I was asking for. The lady from the kitchen area aggressively comes to the front frustratedly talking to the man about the situation. She then turns to me and asks if I've ever had shrimp before and then starts telling me how I'm wasting too much of her food. The man then attempts to hand me 75% of what I paid. I told them to keep the money and just left. I've seen these workers almost every time I've been to the business. Sadly, not even the regulars are treated well here. First, know that I don't eat a lot of Chinese food. I have to be "craving" it. Tonight I was. And our usual Chinese restaurant is closed on Mondays. But China King was not. Yuh-um!!! Very delicious and super fresh. I ordered the regular for my husband, beef and broccoli. Fried dumplings for my daughter. And moo goo gai pan and chicken lo mein for me to sample a little of each. I wanted to see if o could discover a new "fav" dish The dumplings had a bit of kick to them, which my daughter loved! The beef and broccoli was so beautiful and healthy looking. The chicken lo mein was a surprise. I didn't know the chicken came in little fried puff balls. Oh, man! So fresh, so soft, so tasty. Especially with the sweet and sour sauce that came with them. I had read that the real star regarding the lo mein noodles is the sauce, and, bingo, I read right!!!! So savory and fresh. I got my sample, ate it up, went back for more and...POOF! Gone! Apparently lo mein is now a family fav. The moo goo gai pan was chock-o-block full of bright, fresh, cooked just right veggies....carrots, snap green beans, mushrooms. So glad we have left overs We ordered all these dishes we ordered as combos, so they came with egg rolls. Again, so fresh! So, at China King, we got delicious Chinese food, with fresh ingredients and freshly prepared. And seasoned just right. It's nice to discover a new place. read more

I ask the lady do they have general Tso shrimp and she said yes. I'm a pescatarian so I don't eat meat. I said ok great I wold like a combo. I get home and what they gave me was general Toso chicken with plain rice with egg in it. I returned the next day with all of the food and ask for a refund. I paid $10.84 plus a tip, and she hands me only $10 back. I would never come back to order from here again. How does one get a refund and not get all the money they spent back? Decided to resurrect an old Sunday tradition of ordering Chinese takeout today and decided on China King. We've eaten here a handful of times before but not since the pandemic started. We have always been pleased with the selection of items on the menu, the close proximity of the restaurant to our house, cleanliness of the restaurant and quality of food. Today was no exception. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by how safe I felt picking up my takeout in the wake of the pandemic. Everything is plexiglass'd in and there is absolutely no contact with the staff. Food was piping hot as always and the portion sizes were ample! Today, I had the General Tso's chicken combo which came with fried rice and an egg roll for $7.95. We also had a quart sized order of the vegetable lomein ($7.50) and it was delicious as well. They forgot my crab wontons but I'll cut them some slack because they're usually always on point. Do not buy from this place! I placed an order over the phone and the lady that took the order repeated it back to me to confirm the order. When I got there to pick it up, I noticed she had given me the wrong order. I kindly told her that she had made a mistake with my order by giving something different than what I had ordered. She changed it, but it was a ONE DOLLAR more difference and she charged the ONE DOLLAR more to my credit card as a tip. I ordered from them a lot, but never again! One of my favorite places to pick up dinner after a busy day. I tend to order the shrimp lo mien with extra cabbage, the Szechuan Chicken (extra spicy), and any of the Mei Fun's on their menu, the vegetables are always super fresh and vibrant, food is ready lightning-quick, and is still very very warm by the time I get home to sit down and enjoy it. They accommodate to reasonable requests, as I mentioned the extra cabbage and making certain dishes more spicy. The only criticism I have of China King is that menu dishes that are traditionally supposed to be spicy are usually underwhelming in that area... but since I've ordered those dishes with the request to "make it spicy", they do indeed know what they're doing and can bring it up a level. So, I definitely recommend anyone to specify if they'd like their meal to be spicy. You can certainly tell that they are very experts in cooking with woks, because all the non-fried food has that "wok hay" or "energy" or "breath" of the wok that absolutely sings on your palate. The service is great and fast. They're always very sweet. Whenever you enter the restaurant, you can smell the delicious aromas from the food. The food has never failed me. I usually order from Hut Wok, but they're closed on Mondays. I ordered a quart of egg drop soup and went to pick it up. In the store there is a sign that says there is a five dollar minimum purchase to use a credit card. Being that it is my first time, I did not know this. I asked the lady if she could accept my card this one time and I know for next time. She told me she would not take my card unless I purchased more from her, so I left the food there. Everyone has a right to have their policies, but this poor customer service will ensure I do not eat there and maybe stop friends and family from eating there as well. read more
