The ambiance was therefore pretty low-key. The service we received both times was fine. We had an order of gyoza we split between us, we each had a bowl of miso soup, and we each had the two-rolls lunch special. The gyoza was good, although it was fully deep-fried and not just browned on one side as it usually is. The miso soup was strangely dark - I even verified with the waitress that it was indeed miso soup. I'm wondering if perhaps they used red miso paste rather than the usual shiro (white) miso paste? Regardless, the soup was flavorful and good and although not quite traditional miso soup, very acceptable. And quite a generous portion, also. The sushi rolls were fine - the way this chef arranges the salmon roll pieces in the shape of a flower is very pretty. We couldn't eat it all so the waitress brought us boxes and we took the remainder home. The check was around $55 before tip.

I also ordered the vegetable udon, hoping for a flavorful dish filled with fresh vegetables. Sadly, when it arrived, it lacked any vegetables and was quite bland. The overall taste was underwhelming, which was disappointing, as I had expected better. I pushed the plate to the side, indicating that I wouldn't be eating it. No one noticed. My plate was hardly touched, and not once did any staff member, including what I presumed to be the manager based on his demeanor, come over to inquire about my meal. He passed by my table at least three times without asking if everything was okay. I would have appreciated the opportunity to provide feedback. While I must say that everything else I tasted, aside from the udon, was delicious, the lack of attention to detail--such as not offering a refill for my tea and not inquiring about my dining experience--left me feeling neglected. It was truly disappointing to leave with an untouched plate and not a single word from the staff addressing my concerns even after we declined the offer container to take home the meal.

I enjoyed the ginger salad because it had lots of dressing but could have used a little more of a gingery taste. The chef made plenty of fried rice for 4 of us and plenty of vegetables. In fact, that's what your meal is mostly made up of. The VIP meal is $100 for two people and one other person at our table got filet mignon and scallops with his meal. The food was ok but could have used more seasonings. You do not get much protein in your meal. For $50 each we got 3 shrimp, 3 scallops, plenty of slightly overdone chicken, 4 pieces of filet mignon and 3-4 pieces of lobster. You get entirely too much rice and veggies. The person at the table that did not order the VIP got more scallops and more fillet. Overall we were not impressed and would probably not return because I feel paying $100 for two people should get you as much if not more since you are paying more for it. I felt the chef should have prepared more protein and less "filler." Oh well, live and learn and try other hibachi places.
