    Hot braised chicken

Long time fan of China House. An easy pick when running errands in the area for something filling and tasty. Portion sizes are quite large when you hold the Togo box it's got some weight to it. I remember when I was a young teenager and getting the combo plates for $5 (if u know u know) Glad to see they're still serving and doing well. Cannot go and not order their hot braised combo meal- their crab Rangoon are bomb!

Just got off the road coming in from Alabama. No one wanted to cook so we decided on takeout. This place is my partners go too sooooooo. Pepper Steak & Onion - My Steak was tender and the onions and peppers was just how I like them. They weren't mushy, they still had a nice crunch to them. The sauce was perfectly seasoned. I added one of those pepper packets to it to make it spicer and that was the business right there. Our Chinese takeouts doesn't give us those and they really really should. Steamed Dumplings - These bad boys are plump and juicy. They are hugeeeeee and filling. The dipping sauce is what makes them AMAZING though. Be sure to get extra sauces bcus they are small but one order of the dumplings requires about 3-4 sauces. Mongolian Beef - my daughters dish was just okay but it was because it was very different from any other Mongolian we've ever had anywhere else. It was saturated in black pepper and wasn't full of onions how we expected it also had other veggies in it that we've never had in it either. Would not recommend it. Shrimp Lo Mein - my baby girl dish was tasty too. Had a good portion of veggies throughout the noodles. She had a small order and her only complaint was there was not enough shrimp in comparison to the noodles. I thought it was okay after adding soy sauce to it. It needed a little help.

Plain Fried Rice, extra green onion, no egg. Red pepper!

If you're a native St. Louisan, then you know that there is a difference between county rice and city rice (and you'll also know what those terms mean). STL County rice usually has peas & carrots, and just tastes different all together. So when China House first opened, being that Bridgeton is the county, we thought it'd be the same ole boring county rice. Wrong, were we! To our surprise and delight, we had city rice in the county! It's tastier (greasier), sans those pesky peas & carrots, and it's so good! I don't eat meat, so my normal order is Plain Fried Rice, no egg, extra green onions + extra red pepper. They have these crispy french fries, which I love to get with my rice, in what has to be one of the weirdest food combinations. Warning: there is cross contamination of all foods, so check your order before you leave and as you're eating. I often have to pick out pieces of egg from my rice. Only once did I find a piece of meat. I didn't complain about it, I just picked it out. Also, the rice has sometimes had a burnt flavor. I've noticed this when I ordered later in the evenings. Not sure what that's about. My non-veg*n family loves their dishes too, from egg foo young, to fried rice dishes, to combination plates & St. Pauls. I agree on the large portions, especially for the combination plates. My kids would eat off of a combo plate for days. Cheap eats. Open late on weekends. Weekends and lunch times are extremely busy, so I suggest calling in your order. If you get a busy signal, keep trying. You'll be glad you did. ($5 minimum order for credit/debit card usage.) Located off of the Rock Road, west of Lindbergh, in the shopping area behind IHOP, and between the Schnucks & Home Depot. I no longer live in STL, but when I went home last weekend, this was one of my first stops. NO ONE does fried rice like the STL, and China House does STL rice right!

Large bed of rice, but huge chicken pieces! Crab Rangoon comes in a separate bag (styrofoam container is packed)

5 star value- QUANTITY, actually bite into sized piece meat & freshly cooked 3 star for being "Americanized" & lower flavor 2 star dine-in dive experience & no delivery (take-out is best) I had $5.10 Hunan chicken combo plate & a $1.50 16oz bowl of hot & sour soup. 2nd visit Braised Shrimp combo (no veggies) 3rd visit- I got $5.10 combo Chicken & Veggies in garlic sauce with $0.30 extra bean sprouts (best meal so far) -Combo plates are available @ all hours (I got mine @ 8:30 PM on a Saturday night.) -Combo plate's 2 Crab rangoon (not very well stuffed) are in a separate bag because there is no room in the styrofoam container -huge bed of pork fried rice -HUGE pieces of chicken & veggies that I ate in bites -I went back for braised shrimp. They gave nice size pieces of shrimp also -the soup for $1.50 with bag of crunchy noodles was big enough for some peoples complete meals (not me) -I liked how thick with ingredients the soup was, but seemed to be missing mushrooms. (It maybe just my 16 oz serving) -they have "extras" on the menu like bean sprouts that can dress up a meal for 30 cents.

We're food fell out of the bag because they bite cheaper foam trays. Melted tray and food fell out of bag told no refunds.

Weekday visits are pretty chill but weekend dinner time gets busy, just something to plan around. Also a heads up on parking, the lot isn't very big so when it's packed it can be tough to find a spot. Would recommend carpooling if you can. I have a pretty low spice tolerance but there are still so many delicious dishes to choose from if you look around the menu. The soups are so hearty and comforting. Insider tip: the tofu egg dish is not on the menu but ask for it anyway. It is so worth it and the best way I can describe it is like eating a savory cloud puff. So unique and so good. The service is always super efficient, food comes out fast, and the staff will get you in and out. Every single dish I've had has been full of flavor and nothing has missed yet. Would absolutely come back and highly recommend.

Not to mention the rude service we received, you have to ask for napkins and basics, which seemed to be a bother tithe rude waitress. She never once said thank you or hello Also not very clean either. I should've turned back around when we noticed the filthy glass doors. However I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Don't waste your money on this place like I did. I

I've been a regular at Cate Zone Chinese Café for a long time and usually go once or twice a month…read more I always order the crispy fish and mala tofu, and up until recently, I loved this place enough to justify a 30 minute drive. Unfortunately, my most recent visit completely changed that. I went on Sunday, 11/23, the weekend before Thanksgiving. I worked from 6-3 that day and placed my usual order online around 1:00-1:30 pm for ASAP pickup so I could grab it before their lunch break. I even left work early to make it there. When I arrived around 2:40 pm, I was told my order wouldn't be ready until 5:00 pm and that I would have to come back. I showed them my order confirmation, which originally showed a pickup time around 2:50 pm. Even when I refreshed the website, it showed 3:30 pm, still nowhere near 5:00. The cashier, a young man, was dismissive and didn't seem to care at all that my time had been wasted or that the information given online didn't match what I was being told in person. This was extremely frustrating and honestly unacceptable, especially for a place I've been loyal to for so long. I wasted my time, left work early for nothing, and left without food. As much as I've loved Cate Zone in the past, this experience was enough to make me question whether I'll be returning.
