I just picked up my order. I was Pleasantly surprised that they are still doing the no touch delivery the girl left my bag on the table outside the restaurant for me to get. First this is a take out joint so one has to keep that in mind for what to expect for food. Found it doing the Google search and it was the menu that caught my eye. Tried sight unseen. There were certain dishes that would be considered a little more adventurous for the suburbs and not considered your standard Chinese take out fare. For example, they have some Salt & Pepper dishes which weren't fantastic but saves a drive to Schaumburg or Chicago and still quite tasty. Plus this is a dish that in 15 minutes can go from great to okay as it loses its crispness so have to keep that in mind. Some of their dishes have Korean influences which helps mixed it up as it goes for flavors. We tried about 8 different dishes and they were all above average and everything is reasonably priced. We received a free Chicken Teriyaki dish on our order. Food was packed well and they have online ordering. We will be going back. read more

I finally stopped in for the first time the other day and I'm glad i did. It's a bit of a hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall so it's not really quick to see and the name sounds generic enough to scare alot of people off but dont let it fool you. They have the best lunch special in the area, 3 sushi rolls, soup, and i think a egg roll for $10. Their Miso soup was the best I've had, and the Philadelphia roll was fantastic in flavor and size as well as rice portion. They do a $16 all you can eat sushi lunch and $20 dinner that i think ill try tomorrow night. Definitely worth stopping in. Friendly employees and very hip inside. I just wish they had a sushi bar to sit at as i enjoy watching them make your food and talk with you but its just tables and booths. read more

I haven't updated my review in 3+ years, so I figured I should do that! Since I first ordered from China Dragon I we have tried many dishes and have not been disappointed by anything. The portions are very generous, the meat and seafood is good quality and the vegetables are fresh. We pick up food from China Dragon I several times a month and I have not been back to the other Chinese takeout place I used to order from. Since my last review, they opened a "dine in" area and are now offering a good selection of sushi, as well. I am not a sushi fan, so I can't review that, but I have heard from friends who love sushi that it is very good. My family and I have not dined in, but the dining room has a cute, modern look. read more

FORGET about China Dragon's Chicken Teriyaki! Hands down the very worse we ever had. The chicken is very dry, hard to chew, and hard to cut. They don't even give you teriyaki sauce. The on-line menu does not tell you what the Chicken Teriyaki comes with, but it comes with chicken fried rice, which doesn't taste good either and broccoli. Very small portions of anything you order. If you want great Chinese food, I would recommend Yin Yang's or Panda Express. read more

We have ordered from this place a few times and did so again last night. Our food was delivered promptly and it was delicious! We ordered two chicken dishes, one with vegetables and the other one with cashews, along with eggrolls and baby shrimp fried rice. The chicken was well cooked, all white meat and delicious. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, al dente, not soft. The eggrolls were just the right mixture of filling and crushed. The shrimp fried rice was also great & not greasy. While ordering, I could not find Almond cookies, so I requested in a note that they add them if they had them, and they did. I received an updated email showing my order had been updated. In addition, perhaps because we have ordered here a few times, they gave us a complimentary serving of six pieces of California rolls, which I particularly like. We had a great meal for a very reasonable price and leftovers! We will definitely be ordering from this restaurant again! read more

The first night we moved into our new place we ordered food and were pleasantly surprised when we received our food in about 30 minutes and also got free sushi! Usually I order take out via phone and I have also sat once at this facility. Staff members are so friendly and go out their way to promote themselves and their business. I am so impressed by them. I would gladly go out of my way for their wonderful service and food! My family has high expectations and they loved the Mongolian beef, shrimp in lobster sauce (especially) and orange chicken. I've been searching for a place near the Barrington Hills area for good Chinese. Of the three places on Algonquin road which I've checked out, I think China Dragon 1 is the best of the three. It's the closest I've found to Szechuan Kingdom which used to be in Northbrook, but closed last year due to the owner's illness and nobody being able to take over from him. I still really miss that place. So I love their menu selections. They have an abundance to choose from. I wound up ordering egg rolls, pot stickers, a small hot & sour soup, a large Kung Pao Chicken, and a small Hunan Shrimp. The pot stickers were really good. I don't usually like the thick, doughy kind of pot stickers but these were cooked well and had a good flavor, and the dipping sauce was REALLY good. A very strong, acidic vinegar soy sauce. A lot of people might not like that style of dipping sauce, but I love it. The egg rolls were a little disappointing. The skin was crunchy, but the inside was mush and I think there were baby shrimp inside but they were overcooked. I probably won't order this again. I have not tried the hot & sour soup yet. I got really full off of the one egg roll I ate, and the pot stickers I devoured. But I wanted to at least taste the Hunan shrimp and the Kung Pao chicken, so I took a bite of each. I was not impressed with the quality of the shrimp. They must be previously frozen because some of them disintegrated when I ate two of them which is pretty gross. But the vegetables and the flavor of the sauce was excellent, so I'll probably re-order this using the chicken or beef instead. The Kung Pao chicken was OK, but the sauce wasn't nearly as good as the Hunan Shrimp. The chicken was nice and tender though, so that was a plus. I also ordered a Thai Iced Tea, but unfortunately the lady taking my order must not have heard me properly because she wound up making me a Thai Iced Coffee. I don't drink coffee, so I wasn't really happy, but I didn't feel like turning the car around to go back and correct it. I just chalk it up to they must get a LOT of people who order the iced coffee, and she must have been on auto pilot for hearing that order instead of the tea (although, I checked the ticket on the bag and it does say Thai Iced Tea. But I've had Thai iced tea before and this didn't taste like tea). No big deal. I can have it corrected the next time I go back. And I will go back. A plus is that they'll deliver within 6 miles of their location for a $4.00 delivery charge. I like that she was very up front about that (the delivery charge), and when I asked questions about other items on the menu, she was prompt and honest and up front about everything (like the snow white salad having imitation crab meat. Not a lot of places like admitting that, so I appreciate the honesty of that, and with the other items in the salad, I'm really curious about it and still want to try it). I also liked that when she wasn't sure about what was in something, she went to someone more in the know and confirmed the items so that she didn't give me incorrect information. So, while I'm a little disappointed with some of the items I tried, there are enough other items I can still try until I find the right thing(s) for me. And in any case, they have over twenty different kinds of smoothies, and something called Rolled Ice Cream, and a Tropical Ice cream, so for my sweets needs, I can go to them for that. Finally, the decor is a little funky (weird). They seem to kind of be a fast food Chinese/Asian (they have Pho which I would like to try. I'm new to this kind of food, but I love meat and noodle soups, and they have Sushi) place (plastic tables and chairs, giving a very casual setting feel) but they have these upscale glittery light fixtures which look like they belong in a more traditional, upscale restaurant, and then right next to each of those, they have red lanterns. So it's a weird mix of decor. It doesn't really bother me, it's just a very interesting decorating choice. All in all, with all the different menu choices, I'm sure I'll find things I like. It will just be hit and miss for a while. Oh, one last thing. They do use MSG, so if you're not into that or are allergic, just let them know and they'll leave it out. Everybody is really nice there and I am really pleased with that. I think this place will work out for me in the end; I just need to keep trying stuff to find what I prefer, and it's definitely better than the first two places I tried. Kind of like a Goldilocks thing. The first porridge was too hot, and the second porridge was too cold, but the third porridge was just right. I wanted to give China Dragon an updated review since they have remodeled, and now have sushi. I want to point out that this update is more of a sushi review then their Thai/Chinese cuisine (which is far superior) that I previously commented on. First off the whole left side of the restaurant has been expanded and now has seating, not a very big area, but definitely enough to seat at least 30 people. The ambiance is casual and has a small sushi bar. The hostess seemed a little overwhelmed as I believe they were a little short handed, although there were only a handful of us in the restaurant. My boyfriend and I were seated and given water right away and our orders taken. We got pot stickers, a happy roll (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, and mango), spicy tuna, and a sweet potato roll. It took a while for our appetizer to come out and our server was apologetic, no biggie...Pot stickers were on point, as usual, no complaints there. Then our sushi came out, presentation was beautiful! Sweet potato roll was tasty, but it's pretty hard to not get that one right. Then I tried the spicy tuna, at first bite I thought, "mmm pretty good, got a little kick to it". Then as I proceeded to chew all I could taste was fish, as in fishy fish. Not appealing at all. I gave the roll one last try and again, fish. I moved on to the maki roll, the happy roll and it was better but I think that the mango really masked the fishiness of the tuna (which clearly had an after taste). Not my favorite, at all. I ate all of the sweet potato and only 2-3 pieces of the rolls that contained the fish. My boyfriend being a trooper, finished it off even though he was sloshing it down with his strawberry mango smoothie (which was fantastic!). We both left disappointed. All in all, come to China Dragon 1 for the Chinese, thai, and those delicious smoothies, pass on the sushi. Fish didn't taste fresh AT ALL. This is my favorite take out place in the area. The food is consistent and really cheap. The interior is a little strange but it is clean and comfortable for dine in. My only complaint is that you can't order small sizes of anything for dine in. You can't order as many dishes when you only get large sizes. Also, the last time I came in, I got the lemongrass chicken wings which are my favorite, but they were all chopped up and had bone splinters in them so I had to throw them away. I would still recommend trying though because they usually are amazing. Hope the quality isn't going downhill... read more
