This is a long overdue review for Chimo's! I have two couches that I bought after college second hand. After over 10 years of owning them, the fabric on my sofa bed started to fall apart, because it was never meant to be used as a daily couch, and the other sofa looked worse for wear with bad microfiber fabric and damaged cushions/edging. I reached out to Chimos in Nov '24 and Joselyn came to my home and gave me an estimate based on my choice of fabric and some recommendations to help improve the function of the couch. To my surprise, they were able to pick it up later that same day to get started. It took a little under 4 weeks and I was thrilled with the final result. It's been over a year and it hardly seems like it's been sat on, even though it's my main couch. I was so happy at the quality of the job, that I reached out to Joselyn a month later asking if she could come and give me an estimate for the 2nd sofa. This one was not just a straight reupholster, I asked if they could re-design the sofa itself, by incorporating some padding on the arms, changing the foam to be more comfortable, adding legs, and fixing some of the frame so it could look similar to the first one. Again, they were able to pick it up the same day, and even though there were more changes, it took half as long as the first one, and they delivered it promptly. Their team who picked up and dropped off was also very professional, and they were so kind about having to carry both couches up and down the stairs to my apartment, since my building doesn't have an elevator. Overall, I am so so happy with both couches; they now look like a sibling set. Reupholstering is definitely pricey, and I had to save up for it but I'm thrilled with the quality of the work and now I know these will last years more. Beautiful work at a decent price. But lousy communication. I dropped off 9 yards of material to make a 4-yard coverlet, explaining I wanted to use the rest for pillows. I'm thinking I'll get back, say, 4 or 5 yards; they gave me back 1 ft of fabric and were suprised I wanted to know what happened to the rest. Where did five yards go?! Mind you, there were no seams to match and no curves. So I'm out over thousand dollars of a really expensive material($374/yd) , and they just kept saying they needed it al. So yes, the coverlet is gorgeous. Beautifully made. But someone needed to do me the courtetsy of explaining to me, ahead of time, why they were gonna use up all 9 yards of fabric for a 4-yard piece. read more

These are unusual times for trying to find new needed services and then actually getting the work done. Chemo's and Joselyn did a tremendous job with communication prior to starting our project and then executing the job. I had outdoor dining chair cushions that needed recovering. I emailed them photos and dimensions for the cushions and they got back with a very reasonable estimate. I picked up the completed cushions within the promised time and they are beautiful. Chemo's did a fantastic job with re-upholstering our sofa. We had a HUGE Kreiss sectional sofa that was in bad shape. It looked worn and was sinking every time we sat on it. A comparable replacement that we looked at from Restoration Hardware would've cost $10k. After doing some research, we decided to go with Chemo's to re-upholster the sofa. Carla and her team did a fantastic job and went above and beyond. For example, the sofa was too big and cumbersome to move, so they had to do a lot of work in our condo. Also, since they didn't have the sofa in their store, it took a few tries to get the cushions exactly the right shape. Finally, we requested some changes about the shape and firmness of the back cushions, and they always tried to accommodate us. The project took more time and way more effort than expected, but Carla and her team always kept a positive attitude and were a joy to work with. Because our requests, they probably came to our place six times! The end product came out beautifully. The sofa looks fantastic and has the perfect firmness and back support. We like more than the flagship $10k sofa from Restoration Hardware, but paid only a fraction of that. read more

I called and spoke to Carla. She was very friendly. I told her I wanted to have a big couch and chair done. I gave her the measurements of each piece. Then I text her a picture of the couch and chair I wanted to have upholstered. She gave me a fair price so I agreed and they came out the same day to pick up the set. A few days later me and hubby went into their shop to pick out a fabric. I really liked their shop centrally located on Westside in a nice area with plenty of parking. It wasn't hot, tiny, dingy with no place to sit inside like some upholstery places. It was spacious, temperature was cool inside. We sat down and looked through the samples she had put aside for us. We narrowed it down to three and then picked one we both liked. The best part is they have a huge selection to choose from. Whatever fabric, texture, style and color you're looking for I'm sure they have it or can get it. After we picked the fabric I gave her a deposit and we left. Right on scheduled Carla called to say it was done and that they wanted to come out that same day to deliver it. They came with both pieces and brought the sofa and chair inside. Wow!! Carla and her team did a great job, see my husband "Philip W."'s review. Carla is very patient and kind, and Chemo's is a family-run business that we should all support. My only advice is to plan carefully and specifically what you want at the beginning. Get on the same page and make sure they are doing exactly what you have in mind. In our case, we had a small misunderstanding with the back cushions. I envisioned something smaller and round, but they initially came back as hard and flat. Carla was wonderful about it and made it exactly what I wanted. But it definitely took more time and more trips that might've been avoided with more planning. But overall the end product was fantastic and I'm extremely happy with it. Since I just have birth having the perfect couch at home is such a joy :) read more

I spoke to several upholstery shops and went with the one that gave me the most reasonable quote on refurbishing my couch, which is older than I am. It was in really rough shape--we could feel the frame through the cushions, and it looked like a couch that had been in a dentist's waiting room and then been a college apartment couch for three people (because it had). Chemo's did a beautiful job making it look and feel brand new, and Joselyn kept me updated about how the work was going. Considering that they almost had to completely rebuild the couch, they were very fast and the price was very fair. I couldn't be happier and wish I had more furniture to bring to them! read more

It would be a fair price IF the work wasnt mediocre AND the service wasn't terrible, dont waste your time and money. I took my four 1950's style dining chairs here to get reupholstered. I had a very specific type of material I was looking for and they were able to order it for me which was great. I was initially told they would be ready in 2 weeks. One week to receive the fabric order and one week to do the work. Fair enough. I drop my chairs off and pay the deposit, and call just after the 2 weeks only to find out that there was a delay receiving the fabric, and that it'll be another few days. Bummer but ok, these things happen. I call just over a week later and it still isnt ready yet. Now I'm getting annoyed, it's been almost double the amount of time I was quoted and still no chairs and no one is communicating with me to let me know what's going on. Then they promise that the chairs will be ready in a few days. I finally call after a few days and they're ready, I go and pick them up and the work seems to be decent and they knocked $30 off the total price for my trouble. (Which for what I was paying that isnt very much.) One month later, I notice two of the screws on the backs of one of the chairs has come loose and is stripped so I'm unable to tighten it myself. I bring the chair back for repair, they say they'll fix it and can possibly deliver it to me a week later. Ok great. This is their chance to redeem themselves. I call after not hearing anything for THREE WEEKS and my chair has been fixed, but no one called me to let me know. I arrange a time to come and pick up the chair a couple days later and she gives me their business hours for that day and says just call before I come over, I say ok. I call that morning after they're supposedly open, 3 times no answer. Finally I get a call back I say I can be there in 20 minutes she says ok, we are here. I get there exactly 20 minutes and no one is there!! I call them 2 more times and she picks up only to say they're our on a delivery and they'll be there in 15 minutes?! I'm sorry, I'm a very patient and understanding person but that is unacceptable! They knew I was coming. What was the purpose of calling? Someone who I think is the owner turned up after waiting at the door for 20 minutes. I said I was there for my chair, he went and got it and set it down right in front of me and walked away without a word. No apology for making me wait OR for having to come back to get it fixed. I have never experienced such TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! It initially felt good to support a small family business, but they've lost me as a customer. Sad. Dont waste your time and money. read more

I found this little shop here on Yelp. I needed to get my very large, thick foam dog bed cut down, as my old girl can no longer get up on it. I thought it was an easy job, as I just wanted it cut and then wrapped in a similar thin, nylon covering (I already have a sturdier removable cover for it). While Chemo and I spoke about the details, I remarked about how young he was to have his own business. He shared the most amazing story with me - this guy is a risk-taker and such a hard worker. He began building this business totally on his own, when he was in his teens. He just expanded - taking over the space next door - and he clearly deserves his success. When I went to pick up the bed (SAME DAY, by the way), I was shocked to see that instead of wrapping the newly-cut-down bed in flimsy nylon, he actually made a fabric cover for it, zipper and all, so I can remove it if I need to. And he's going to cover the smaller piece he cut from it. All for a really great price. Chemo is truly the kind of guy you want to support. I plan on recommending him to everyone! read more

I chose Chemo's based on their positive reviews here on Yelp. Unfortunately, it was a disaster. They took two months to reupholster my small love seat, when they told me it would take two weeks. I called many times to find out what was going on and often, I couldn't get through to anyone (the phone would ring endlessly or dump me into someone's voicemail and they only returned my calls once or twice). Also, they charged me $70 to refinish the legs on the love seat. They didn't refinish them -- they slopped some stain on the front of the front legs, and did a very messy, ugly job at that. They didn't fill the crack on one of the back legs, and it doesn't look like they applied any new stain to the front side of the back legs. (And they definitely didn't sand or strip the legs before applying the new stain, which is the biggest reason they look so crappy.) When the love seat was finally ready, they called me at 4:00 pm one afternoon and told me it was being delivered (good thing I was home!). They said it would arrive in one hour. After an hour and 45 minutes, I called to ask what the heck was going on, as I had to leave the house. It finally showed up at 7 pm and since I hadn't had a chance to review the finished product before it was delivered, I had to decide on the spot if I wanted him to take it back, since the legs were absolutely unacceptable, or just keep it since I was fairly sure I'd never see it again if I sent it back. The actually upholstery job is pretty good, but not fantastic. They did throw in some free pillows, which was nice, but doesn't make up for the legs being a total disaster or the faff of waiting for the delivery, or the TWO MONTHS I had to wait for the love seat, not knowing what was going on. I've had two vintage chairs done now with these guys---both really well done. One relatively simple one which was very affordable and came out beautiful (a couple years back), and another just finished. The second one was far more work, fabric and cost---but I really don't think I could have gotten a better price elsewhere (a very large, fully covered, skirted, piping, button tufted piece). In both cases I supplied my own fabric. This second job took longer than I'd have liked but to be fair I did not ask for a hard deadline. The best part was they picked up and delivered the chair and were very accommodating about me coming in to consult on the new cushion construction and other details. read more
